I am the 5’3 JLO shape Asian skinny fat , my dad side very lean shredded tall, long legs long arms(my uncles , grand uncles , are all like 6’0” n more. My grandma was 5’6” in her old age) , my mom like VERY skinny curvy. I got both fitted body but like very curvy. N i hated it all my life. For EAST Asian, pale, tall slim is well liked, NOT SLIM thick or Slim curvy. In teen that is like “MOM” look. Or (Cultrually) a farmer look. Ironically i did everything half marathon, all sorts . By my body shape dont change when i gain 20-30lb or lose 20lb, the same exact curvy remain, its just genetics. I got STAGE4 Cancer a few yrs ago. From agreesive chemo-radiation. I went down to 80lb skin n bone. Took about almost 2 yrs to gain weight back up slowly, maybe 1.5. Yr. D non stop weight gain was making me wonder, when will my weight gain stop lol? Below or AT or pass my pre cancer weight. My pre cancer weight for years 114lb. My weight gain steady climb from 80 at lowest point of Chemo/radiator…….STOP DEAD STOP at 114. Pass that no matter what I eat more or less i just sit there at 114lb. Like I am to THIS DAY EFFIGN SHOCKED HOW our DNA is SOOOOOOO PERCISE like UTTER FRIGIN PERCISE. I learnt that in bio science school. Our PROFESSOR PHD research scientist told us that. Our SHAPE/PRIMAL/Natrual optimal weight is SET by DNA. No matter how we manipulate it, it will NOT lock in. It will always swing back to that Weight yr DNA set for us. “When u reach that weight that u discover , if u eat anything any time u r NOT gaining weight--GREAT news, be happy. That means yr body Metabolic rate is healthy. Ur body prevent u to gain excess weight. If u try to fight to make it blow that weight ur body will try to bring it back, so its waste of energy/time / effort for last 3-4lb. But if u NEED to DIET/drastic exercise to keep u from gaining more weight. Then means u have Eating disorder/Chemical imbalance/ mal firing Metabolism “ Gold. Xo

Great video, my only (hopefully constructive) criticism would be the '4-6-8 weeks and you will see visible differences' line - because for the most part, it takes months and months to build enough muscle to be able to actually see it. Because of this trope, people erroneously believe that fat loss and muscle building can be done 'fast' when it categorically cannot. If we made it more clear that they both take lots of time, maybe people won't be so disheartened after a few weeks of 'not seeing progress'! x
@karymebrooks5694 Жыл бұрын
“Visible differences” and “seeing muscle” are two different things though. Visible differences can be anything from noticing your favorite pair of jeans aren’t as tight, maybe your cheeks don’t look as full, you notice you’re able to do a flight of stairs without breathing as hard, etc. I think she just means in 4-6-8 weeks you’ll see general improvements since there’s SO many ways your body will show you it’s changing before the muscle shows.

I honestly feel like you made this video for me. I've never been overweight but I've gone through "diets" in my life where I restrict calories/carbs and lose a significant amount of weight to the point where I'm happy with my weight (but I still have more fat on my body than I would like)... but I can never stick with it because it's a miserably small amount of food! I sometimes fear I've messed up my metabolism doing it because I feel like I gain weight when I eat "normal" amounts of food. And I actually prefer weightlifting to cardio but I'm really intimidated by it....

The only way to lose weight is to eat lesser portions and healthier when anything goes in. (Low fat ) This whole you can eat more is not true. When your shorter you have to eat smaller portions than your friends. It’s hard to follow that’s all. Which most of the petites do not follow unless their a model job because food is life. Life is short and that is a very boring way to live it so enjoy it. But try to limit where it can be done or when is needed that’s why yo-yo and fasting is so common. It just has to be done in important times like when ever you need

Thank you, this was super helpful! Can you make a video about losing weight as a petite woman and body image? For instance, taller women with a lot more body fat percentage than me look a lot skinnier/more toned than I do. I’d have to run myself to the ground to get the same look at my height lol. Another thing I’ve noticed is that taller women are able to retain more of their breast and butt fat while losing weight because the fat distribution on their bodies just favors that body type that way. Would like to see something on this channel about what kind of limitations we’re working with as petite women.
@lucia1982 Жыл бұрын
As a taller woman im 5’9-5’10 that’s not for all women I lost a bunch of weight and fat and the first thing I lost was my butt which had always been huge. It’s not that we look smaller with a higher bf% but it’s the way some carry it. I’m a pear shape so I’ve never had a lot of stomach fat, but I’ve have huge cellulite filled legs. As well as body proportions, you can have long legs while being short and you will look “skinnier” and vice versa. So it’s all genetics not a generalized tall woman thing. Being shorter is easier to build muscle so for sure use that to your advantage and focus on it.

Having a six pack is not a healthy goal for most women. To have that level of muscle definition requires a low body fat percentage that can lead to many health problems, especially related to bones, hormones, and fertility. Not saying no woman can achieve this, as clearly some can, but not most, and some who get that lean may have pretty negative side effects.

I exercise at least 5 times a week and I wouldn’t say I have a poor diet but from going from a point where I didn’t eat to minimize my eating I realized I moderation was the key and I didn’t need to restrict myself from anything and that’s generally how I eat, but I’m definitely at a plateau with my weight. As I mentioned, I’m a muscular girl so I’m generally afraid of building muscle because I don’t want to bulk even though I would like to be toned.

For me, it's the diet and what comes with being consistent with it and being structured.. I cannot stick to how I am supposed to eat for the gains I want. I get lazy and tired to make sure I have my meals ready. So then I under consume protein and also eat junk ugh...

I’m fit and muscular but I have fat arms that I hate!!! I had 2 personal trainers! They helped me to build more muscles, but the diet that they put me on made me snack more, CUTTING FOOD! Is a dangerous habit! You’re right!!! I’m still trying to lose the stubborn fat in my arms! I think because my arms are short 🤷🏽♀️

I had the same issue at one point, I stopped doing any heavy weights for arm exercises and it helped
@lourensway Жыл бұрын
@@KeiViolet really?! I wanted to try that, but I was afraid that I would make my arms just slim and not toned 😩

@@lourensway Yes, it’s what worked for me and no, your arms will be just fine and toned because you still use them in exercises but just without weights
@KeiViolet Жыл бұрын
You can have them toned by doing just body weight exercises because you are obviously genetically prone to building muscles in your arms easily just like me @@lourensway

Water retention? Maybe self-massage for lymphatic movement or compression sleeves could help. Good luck!

Even though I’m on the tall side (5’9) using a macros calculator and tracking macros day to day was such a game changer. If you work in an office building it’s so easy to snack and eat whatever office goodies they have, especially around the holidays. I realized I need to aim for 130-150 grams of protein each day, and when I hit at least 110 grams I don’t snack nearly as much. It helps with cravings and I just feel so much better without all the sugar and nonsense foods. Having real whole chicken, fish, eggs, and veggies makes me feel so much more energetic than coffee or red bull ever could.

Wow! This really was a realty check. I need to hold myself more accountable and be more consistent. A fear I’m feeling right now is the change. The change in how I will look and it feels very verrry uncomfortable because I am so use to this skinny fat body of mine. I’ve been so comfortable in this skin for so long, so comfortable with seeing myself in the mirror and fighting for so long to change and then failing and turning back to the mirror and nothing has changed; over and over and in a way you mentally become use to this. I know the outcome will be great and what I’ve been dreaming of for years, but it just feels scary to turn into this new person. Not only will my body chnage but so will my mind. It’s crazy but I’m ready to stop making excuses!

@@micart79 Yesss! I have horrible IBS which has basically left me 90% vegan. Some brands of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese in small amounts don’t bother me - probably since they’re fermented. ugh us petite women need to work so much harder, don't we? I've been doing strength training for 5 years regularly now (3x per week) and been working on upping my calorie intake (stil a lot of work to do here) and I'm still skinny fat :))) So yes, consistency, mindset, and discipline are everything because progress for petite women is sooooo much slower. We need to be tougher but also kinder with ourselves, it's a life-long journey and we really have to turn a blind eye to what conventional standards dictate

My hormonal imbalances have been doing a number on my muscles mass and gains. When I was in my 20s, it was easy to build muscle. In my 30s it's been virtually impossible and the water retention is TERRIBLE.... I've been skinny fat since I hit puberty, at 10 years old.

I just started tracking calories and saw that i was barely getting to 1k calories a day. As a nurse that walks 15k+ steps a day I get so upset because i feel like the fat should be melting off with how much i walk and how little I eat compared to my friends. Now i see ive just been looking at it all the wrong way. Weight loss/ muscle building is so complex and overwhelming sometimes
@Miriamblake Жыл бұрын
You aren’t losing weight ?
@carol127v Жыл бұрын
if you're eating less thank 1k and walking over 15k steps you should be losing weight no matter what. there's either something actually wrong with your metabolism or you tracked the calories wrong (sometimes the values are off, sometimes you're weighting things wrong, your food scale might be off) bc if you've been doing this everyday for a while you should indeed be melting the fat off. weight loss is pretty straightforward, just burn more calories than you spend, and having muscle helps increasing the amount of calories you spend, which allows you to eat more and still lose. usually the problem is that its hard to eat less than you're used to..

girl if you’re eating under 1000 while staying active and not losing weight there is something wrong, it is physically and biologically impossible. check for thyroid or PCOS, and your hormone levels. full panel. this is highly unnatural

Question: my doctor constantly tells me, what is keeping me fat is the amount of strength training i do. Now you tell me cardio doesn’t help. I‘m confused and i don’t know what to do anymore. Because no matter what i do i just cant lose the ring of fat around my belly… keep in mind i‘m 5‘2 and weight 55kg… the only fat i have is around my belly

It could be you don't do core exercises as much. You have to balance cardiovascular exercises with strength training. Cut sugar will help. If you can, don't eat at night.

Physique aside being skinny fat is terrible for female hormone balance as we age, having more muscle and focusing on that really helps regulate hormones and in return make weight maintence so much easier. My PCOs symptoms always return when I stop weight training

At least now I can keep saying to myself that it is in my power to look great, but if I do succeed but still don't like how I look what then I'm going to feel, well, I don't know how I would feel, depressed maybe.

hi April, I watched a couple of your videos, I can see that you're really knowledgeable and stirring into a right direction with a proper mindset, and that's why I feel really bad saying that what I want to say.. and I kept thinking if I should leave this comment or not, but... well, in my opinion you absolutely have to swap yourself as a face of your petite women program to someone smaller and fitter than you. you might be an amazing coach and nutritionist but you're such a bad example of a toned and shred body, you have curves instead of muscle definition and that's just not what most people are looking for when they scroll through fitness related videos. you might not like my comment but I'm sure you'd have had twice more clients if only you looked differently. however, that is my perspective, and I'm a big and loyal fan of Jillian Michaels' approach, I've been following her recommendations and workouts for years, I've been seeing great results ever since and that's why I stick to it. I just love watching - well, more like listening - different fitness related videos, I let them auto play while I stretch, and yours popped up one time. it made me curious since you were presenting it to be made for petite women specifically, but I didn't find anything new for myself, I was more like disappointed, I guess, and I felt like I needed to leave this here for you. maybe my feedback will be the last straw that will make you rethink your own workout/diet program

Could you make a video on taking a pilates/yoga training approach for petites? I like those training styles because I travel a lot and I can do them anywhere (plus I find them less boring than weightlifting) but I see EVERYWHERE that weights are the way to go
@KGG24 ай бұрын
Research suggests that every pound of muscle is more likely to burn about 6 calories per day. As far as metabolism is concerned, you'd need to have LOADS of muscle for it to make any difference to your metabolism. Mostly the difference will be negligible.
@winniecash1654 Жыл бұрын
What about the opposite problem? My muscle mass is too much for my height. I'm really dense, and bulk up super easy. I try lifting light weights with a lot of reps in order to get longer, thinner muscle (if there is such a thing), but end up still getting more mass.
