How to strum and sing at same time : Step 1: listen to song , while looking at chord changes Step 2 : Google lyrics and read where chord changes happen and finally sing song with chord Step 3 : Identify rhythm and practice it with tapping Step 4 : Strum and sing without chords, this really helps to focus on singing worrying about chord Step 5 : strum and sing . you are there ! Be patient with yourself , stay consistent with practice and you will be there

Hey Lara. I'm struggling with identifying the rhythm of a song. Like when I listen to Riptide I don't know how many beats per measure it is.
@LaraMarkowitzMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hi Deepak, Riptide is a tricky one for a lot of people because the strumming pattern that Vance Joy uses is challenging to play (and to play while singing!). Generally speaking, most songs will have either 3 or 4 beats per measure. I'd suggest starting with one down strum at the beginning of each measure as the "one" and then start adding in other beats. For example if it fits to count "one - two", then add in some "and"s for "one - and - two - and". The "and"s can then change to beats so this can transition to "one - two - three - four". Perhaps I'll make a future tutorial on this as a lot of players find it challenging to identify song rhythms. I touch on this a bit in this video (how to strum any song): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYCqnGRof8-MbNk, and also here's my tutorial on various ways to play Riptide: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXKunIJqaJ2VjKc. Thanks for reaching out and I hope this helps!

@@LaraMarkowitzMusic Thanks. Would really appreciate the video on identifying rhythms.

Why lyrics, not the music? I think music is better since it shows measure and beat to start the chord, and lyrics? Don't know. Anyway thanks.
