I'd say that inner dialogue and outer dialogue is best used when revealing the challenge, but overall, you can include all of the techniques throughout the story. Does that help?

Much better than the last video of yours I watched. Giving a specific example and modifying it is very effective. One note. You have fallen into the trap of maxing things out, specifically the mark. The best grade he ever got in the subject does not equal 100. Getting 100 on a test is also not very stressful for the reader. Ask Hermione. Also different countries have different marking systems. Here it is 1-10, no letters, no 100s. Thus, the story would be more dramatic and more relatable if the stakes were being able to return next year and needing to receive a passing mark. Medical school is not much of an emotional target. The problem is that to get into medical school, you have to be a very good student already. This app is totally inappropriate for such a student because they already learned that skill years ago. This app is aimed for middle of the road students who have to chose between university and community college or community college and McDonalds, not between Harvard and the University of Texas. Therefore, better stakes would be not to disappoint his parents who have always wanted him to get a degree, unlike them.

Besides relatability, another problem with maxing out is where to go. Ask Duncan McCloud (Highlander). The world is not enough. At best, you maintain your position and then it is all downhill. Since you like medical school, think about the dermatologist who studied hard for over a decade to spend all day looking at moles, deciding which look suspicious, and removing them, all day, every day, for the next 30-35 years. Is that really uphill from medical school? Did that really require a decade of instruction and top marks? Effective writing does not require huge stakes, but good writing, like in To Kill a Mockingbird.

My book takes more a business angle on storytelling. If you wanna use stories to inspire at work, it will be helpful. If not, not the best choice!
