That French chic lady has altered her way of dressing just like I have, I no longer wear my blouses, shirts or even sweaters without being tucked in even just a little bit at the front, no more elasticated waists, I also have purchased a selection of belts which I never had before I subscribed to your channel, I no longer own a hooded sweater, I have completely changed my way of thinking about how I dress and I have to say when I look in the mirror Marie-Anne I am much happier than I used to be, still a way to go before I’m REALLY happy but so much improved. Again Thank you.

Thank you Marie Anne! I always wore my shirts tucked in when I was younger but as I have gained weight over the years, I followed all the advice of the “image consultants” that said I should wear long loose tops. I never felt comfortable in them and felt that no matter how much I tried I just didn’t look stylish any more. So I just gave up. Well, my friend you have convinced me to wear my things tucked again. Thank you!

Excellent tips! I think the simplest is tucking the shirt in. I’ve tried to hide many, many times in something loose or oversized. Tucking really makes a difference. I also think it makes you want to change the rest of your outfit to complete the chic look. One small change leads to another. I love the purple on you Marie-Anne! 💕

I love your videos Marie-Anne, I’ve only recently discovered you & although you may not approve of my current attire….jogger scrubs! (I can hear you say ‘Cuffed leg…French Chic Non!’) but trust me as a paramedic you don’t want your trouser hem anywhere near the floor! 😂 Although I think I’m not in your target 50+ audience at 43 & my style is usually 40’s & 50’s vintage reproduction clothing (definitely vintage style not vintage values) I find your style advice still works & very much enjoy my night shift break when I play your videos & am momentarily transported from elasticated scubs to a chic oasis! I loved your videos on Audrey Hepburn & Coco Chanel & would love to see more style lessons form vintage icons. I feel you are championing women & love that your advice encompasses all shapes & sizes. Looking forward to the next video xx

I enjoyed this video. I'm one who used to hide my body. Not so much to disguise a tummy but because I was uncomfortable with people seeing that I have a big chest. You helped me realize I was thinking like the 12-year-old me who was mortified to be the most developed girl in the class. Old feelings are hard to shed. I still can't wear white pants and feel comfortable. But I'm working on it 😂

Hiding my hips & wearing those long, baggy clothes does make me look wider & plumper. True. Cargo pants are not feminine. The only people who need extra pockets at the thigh area are trades men. ie. My style 'revelation'' (much to my surprise) is that a high waistline works for me. I'm short and thick. Not overweight, but a higher waistline lengthens my legs, makes me seem taller, and minimizes my chubby tummy. Cute shoes help, too. I'm fortunate to have small feet that can wear just about anything and look good.

Dear Marie-Anne, I would never wear my tops tucked in. My belly is unflattering, and I'm very self-conscious about it (I'm working on it tho)! I do my best to follow your style suggestions: trousers that fit closer to the body (I have minimal backside, hips and thighs), no frills/flounces on blouses or dresses, tailored jackets, reduce the number of oversized tops that I wear, and adding sleek footwear to my wardrobe (except for my exercise sneakers)😉 I am searching for a pretty handbag with structure - I like this idea! As always, thank you for helping me to see myself in a flattering light.💖

I've learned so much from you Marie-Ann. Im 67 and a US 2X but I find I look slimmer and more youthful following your advice. At least I'm tall (5'7"), so that helps. 😛 Another trick I use is to draw the attention upwards. For example, I love to wear a Levis denim jacket over a mariniere, with a red and navy silk scarf tied jauntily around my neck, cats eye sunglasses, red lipstick, a smallish structured tan leather bag and a belt. Sometimes I'll even wear a hat . My straight dark wash jeans finish the outfit, but everyone's eyes go to my top part!

So true, Marie-Anne! It's such a myth that loose clothes would make one look slimmer - I think it actually does more to high-light how thin actual thin people are, it's no help to chubby people at all! It cannot be stressed enough that the most important is to stick with good quality fabrics with well-designed cutting and avoid stretchy ones whenever possible. Another downside of wearing loose-fitting clothes it that it shows your lack of confidence, because when you're hiding something, people can tell, and you'll never carry anything well if you're not confident ;) A sales lady also taught me a good lesson a few years ago at a time when I had put on some weight... She told me never resort to buying larger clothes when I can't fit into my old ones, that's just letting oneself go! ALWAYS do one's best to lose those extra pounds until the old clothes fit again - that was such a wake-up call, lesson well learnt!

@@MarieAnneLecoeur Thanks. I thought so too. But I followed your instructions and the measurements are almost equal, I guess because all my weight is a bit lower. 100cm - 75 - 100..then lower around the bottom/ just above top of the thigh …boom 115. Maybe the pear shape is more fitting though.

I used to be sceptic about a lot of your advice for larger women, but recently I noticed I am actually starting applying some of it. E. g. I don't like wearing very wide blouses anymore. Still like a loose fit, but now I prefer more fitted ones. I noticed that with my large bust the fabric always hangs from my breasts, far away from my body, and it makes me look massive. Any advice for making my breasts look a bit smaller? Don't get me wrong, I like them, but sometimes they just seem to be too much😅

Maybe that’s why I like cargo pockets, my thighs are too skinny! Not those bulky canvas ones, though, my silk “Cargo Joggers” from Lily Silk are the only cargo trousers I like, because they drape over my skinny parts. I can’t wear stiff-fabric trousers, my hips and legs are too narrow, so I get weird flaps of extra fabric sticking out 3-4 inches on each side from my hip and thigh areas. I’ve never found a single pair of jeans, even in men’s, cut reasonably well for my straighter, boyish shape. After 50 years, I’m tired of chasing the idea of trousers and jeans. I wear mostly dresses and skirts and they’re far more comfortable anyway. (My waist is set so high that trousers pull up very uncomfortably). Once I asked a very experienced sales lady “are there really women who can fill out these hips and thighs”? Her answer was depressing “yes, all women!” “Except this one” was the message, discouraging.
@kimberlyperrotis896210 ай бұрын
The best thing I ever did for my style was to get rid of all my tunic tops, sweaters and big, long shirts about 20 years ago. I always felt frumpy in them, they were just what most women my age (then in my 40s) wore. Sadly, I then shopped at those mature brands, too, a big mistake - nothing but 3/4-sleeve tunics in nasty, old-lady prints. Now I tuck in all my tops/sweaters, all the way round, or buy “cropped” ones. Because I’m not tall and am very short-waisted, these just barely cover the waistband of my skirt or trousers, perfect. My rule is that top garments must end higher than my hipbones, at least, or they get tucked in. I look so much younger, taller and slimmer in these and they show my shape, which has nice slender hips and legs, and a somewhat, but not super, defined waist. I think I look three sizes smaller! I never wear long cardigans either, I feel frumpy in them, a classic-fit blazer looks so much sharper and more flattering. If I need to be very comfy indoors, like at the office, I wear my Ralph Lauren knit ones, which are as comfortable as sweaters, but still have that flattering structure of blazers.

I have a tummy bulge, especially below my waist. Therefore, tucking my shirt or wearing a belt at my waist will bring attention to my tummy. Empire waist tops work for me and I wear black bateau-neck, 3/4 length sleeve tees that hit the hips. No oversized tunics.
