Your thoughtfulness really shows in your content, and is also much appreciated. Your content really speaks to me; and your dressing is modest, understated and still personalised to you. Which is what I seek to achieve too. Thank you for being an inspiration as you share your creative journey!

Helen you are honestly one of the best fashion creators I've come across on KZbin. Your videos are so polished and clear, and I always walk away with a new perspective on how to shop and buy. So grateful for you!!

Do not underestimate Makeup and hairstyling as a part of accessoires 💄 I love how a bright lipstick, a vintage inspired eyliner or a ponytail can change a whole look.

I agree, I’m borderline petite (5’4”) and I find that one of the most lengthening looks for me is a slim or slightly A-line maxi dress. (This look can also be achieved with a narrow maxi skirt and matching top). The long line of one color makes me look taller and slimmer. I like to add a wedge or block heel shoe with a little height, say 2-2.5”. It’s also an easy outfit for days when I don’t have time to shave my legs!

Ty for your comments on longline items! I’ve never understood why petites are recommended cropped over full length items.

I often wonder why you wear full length sleeves especially with blazers. I''m also petite and find it very refreshing to show the ancles or the wrists. So I roll up the sleeves very often. This way you can get an emphasis in your hands and show rings, a bracelet or a watch.

Thank you so much! I'm actually not personally a huge fan of style rules either. Sometimes they make me feel restricted/bored by the options. But a few of them sometimes come in handy :)

Really love your content! I think your tips and thought process are really simple to follow, it’s very relatable and doable in the real world. I personally don’t relate much with the “layering” rules with blazers/cardigans because I live in a tropical country (we only have sunny or rainy days, and a very cold AC in the office lol), but you offer so much more. I’ve been figuring out my personal style in the last year or so, and following your tips have been helpful in my journey. Thanks a lot!

There are still ways to layer, even without making your outfits too warm. You could use jewellery; light, flowy fabrics; garments that don’t cover a lot over a garment that covers a bit more; etc…

Great tips! Sometimes these "rules" can get too restrictive and end upp hindering ouftit-creativity. Also, I've often felt that when thinking about too many rules at once make me chose "weird" combinations that work great in my head and maybe on someone else but not on me or isn't anything practical for me to wear.. I loved hearing your take on fluidity and structure because it helped me as well to understand why some things work and others not - even though "shape"-wise they should, eg. wider trousers adn fitted top (like your example with the knitted top). Also don't like the rule that short people shouldn't wear maxi... firstly, everything midi becomes maxi and mini becomes midi so no can do there, instead just embrace it! xD Also, another thing I've said before in the comments on a previous video is that for me there's a very fine line between looking chic and fashionable and looking like I just put on whatever... Especially with unexpected colour combos and not matching things: somehow it always looks like I just put on something and didn' t think too much about it or that I'm trying too hard and it just looks off.. Maybe I just need to have more confidence in what I'm doing?
@DailyHelenJ2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you - I think it's all about picking and choosing the 'rules' and using them very broadly :) When it starts to restrict me, I tend to stop following it as it can just take the fun out of dressing/styling. Re the looking chic versus throwing on whatever, I find this to be the case too. But I think when I build on things, e.g take a combo I know I love and then mismatch one item lets say, it makes it a bit less of a risk. Maybe try doing one slightly mismatched piece per outfit, and then build on that? Just an idea, but I think if you don't love mismatched, it is also 100% ok and very possible to look incredibly chic in pieces that do match :)

A "style rule" I follow relatively strict is to decide between prominent earrings or prominent necklace. I always wear glasses and feel like ist would be too decorative If I'd wear 3 prominent accessoires next to my face. Instead of a necklace I often choose bright lipstick or an interesting hair style.

Random question: you have the Tibi Morris loafers, right? I'm considering getting them but am unsure about sizing. Do they run TTS or are they big/small? Thanks!
@DailyHelenJ2 жыл бұрын
I think they run true to size. I'm between a 37 and 38, so I usually find 37.5 to be the perfect size. I took these in a 38 and they are very slightly big (not enough to bother me but a 37.5 would be perfect). So true to size for me.

Excellent analysis, I feel everytime you go in-depth with style a lightbulb goes on in mind 😁 I can totally relate with that "mistake" of starting with the top and then adding a (usually plain) bottom and the outfit ends up lackluster, in fact I still do that often especially when I'm in a rush but I had never identified that as being the actual problem. So obvious now! Loved your take on toning down complimentary colours... I really don't feel confident in bold colours and this would definitely allow me to branch out and experiment more with my wardrobe.
@DailyHelenJ2 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad the ideas have been helpful! :) Honestly I don't actually know these things either but when I sit down to put a video together, I start analysing and then everything clicks - so I'm super happy that this video is helpful. Thank you xx

I think it’s “complementary” colors, not “complimentary”. I’m so happy that full-length trousers are back, I think they’re so much more flattering than cropped, ankle-length ones for us shorter women. Yes, I always have to hem them, but it’s not that big of a deal, it takes me about 30-45” of mostly ironing time. (I measure and cut, then iron in the first and second turns, then stitching only takes about 4 minutes).
