IMO, your truck is a beauty. It's good looking, has many bells and whistles, and it does what you want it to do. I also have a white Chevy truck, a 1999 S 10 with a 2.2 4 cylinder, the same engine Chevy used in the Cavaliers of that era. After 24 years, I'd love to exchange it for a 2.7 Silverado like yours, but it's still going and it's been paid for a long time. You have gotten me thinking, though...(don't tell my wife!)

Not a bad idea to go for a 2023-2024 as they fixed the bugs for this engine and even the cylinder deactivating system was upgraded which previously was problematic in the V8s Basically when you're cruising on the highway the engine switches to 2 cylinders which saves on gas, and when you need to accelerate or tow a trailer of course it'll use all 4 These engines have been proven to be reliable so far, very minimum issues, no failures as far as I know and they been used in silverados since 2019 I believe which is enough time for these trucks to reach high mileage and they're holding up

I have a 2023 2.7. It’s a good truck but the main 3 things I don’t like about it are, 1-the turbo lag is really bad from a dead stop, 2-the braking lags also, when you step on the brakes there’s a delay that slowly goes to where you’ve pressed the pedal, 3-the transmission is always in gear like it’s in “tow mode”, so it’s up shifting or down shifting but never will coast or be out of gear when you let off the gas pedal
@jeremsgarage

Haven't noticed any of those issues. All turbo engines have some turbo lag. The 2.7 didn't feel particularly bad. I have never. ever. noticed a lag in the brakes on these newer GM half-tons. It's an electric-hydraulic brake system and it feels pretty responsive to me. Plus it doesn't require a vacuum pump like most modern truck engines do these days. I don't know what you're talking about with the transmission. It doesn't free coast like the ancient transmissions from the 90's but it doesn't act like it's in tow/haul when it isn't in tow/haul.

That’s a beautiful truck. I didn’t like the 2019-current body style at first but it’s grown on me. I’ve got a 2005 Silverado 5.3 4 door with 210,000 miles and a 2007 GMC Sierra SLE Classic Z71 4 door with 275.000 miles. Both have been fantastic trucks and I can’t say a bad thing about the 5.3. I’ll probably drive a GM800 truck or SUV until the day I die. People are always surprised but these have been more reliable for me than the Toyotas I’ve owned, and they made so many of them through the years that parts are cheap and easy to find. Like I said the new ones are growing on me but I’ve got to wear these out first. I think my favorite years are the 2014-2018 Silverados, the first couple of years of that model kind of remind me of the 1984 c10 with the stacked square headlights

Good video… I’d like your opinion on following points. I’ll give GM a compliment as follows Turbo “4” simpler design than 2.7 “V-6” Now for the concerns… ford F-150 “6” cylinders all the time 👍👍 GM should have kept this engine as “4” cylinders all the time no sliding cam to add complexity… also direct fuel injection “ONLY” does the design engineer feel that fouled up intake valve’s won’t be an issue ??? If this engine was “4” Cylinders all the time and at least dual fuel injection it would inspire confidence…

I preferred the gmc over the silverado with this engine configuration hence why I got the 2.7 Sierra along with that they offer way more comfort features compared to the custom silverado trim Three things that have failed on my truck in the two yrs of ownership are: Oil control pump (located inside the oil pan) roughy about 1500 miles of the 30k warranty mark Transmission oil control pump (inside the transmission) roughy 40k mile mark when it failed Radiator was replaced as I noticed coolant underneath near the driver tire when I was changing the oil on the truck. Took it to the dealership and in fact the radiator was pressure tested and did have a leak. Lastly, the purge valve also failed idk how but that sits on top bear the engine cover and ignition coils. These were covered under extended warranty so no money out of my pocket but the inconvenience of not having a vehicle to work or the dealership not working hard enough to give me a rental, knowingly that they are getting paid by the extended warranty company, didn’t help. All though they say that the spark plugs have a 100k mile lifespan, the owners manual says to replace them for the 2.7 turbo engine at 75k miles which I was over due by 1k miles 😂 Be very careful when doing the spark plug replacement as the two bolts holding the cover connect to the air box and unfortunately when the dealership replaced the purge valve they over tightened those bolts causing the fasteners that are place in the air box to stay stuck to the bolts and I couldn’t take them off and had to call them out on their mistake and they fixed the issue and paid the $150 to have them install the spark plugs Overall it’s a powerful engine as I don’t do any hauling or pull a trailer but it was better than having a ford transit van for deliveries

The new fluid doesn't absorb moisture and change viscosity like the original did. That would cause all kinds of shift issues and torque converter shudder. The 6-speed had just as many issues until GM came out with a TSB a few years ago, identifying the torque converter failures as being caused by the transmission cooler bypass thermostat and referencing a new part that would reduce temperatures that causes the TCC to degrade.

Hi Scotty! I’m this is a great question! This engine is built very much with diesel technology in its bottom end. Does it technically have less HP and Torque than a lot of the V8’s on the market? Yes it does. The difference is where the power is made. The 2.7l makes it’s max torque at 1,300 rpm and it remains flat through 4,500 ish RPM. I can start from a dead stop with 9,000 lbs hooked to the back of the truck on a steep on ramp and be exceeding the speed limit at the top of the ramp. Truly a remarkable machine. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH3blnWwp82CfrM&pp=ygUZMi43bCB0dXJibyBnbSBlbmdpbm5lcmluZg%3D%3D Thanks for watching!

@Scotty Ellis HP and torque depends on how much air the engine can take in, regardless of cylinders. Double the air means double the power. A 4-cycle piston engine only needs 4 cylinders to keep the crankshaft always turning on a power stroke. A V8 is smoother than a 4 cylinder, but the 4 cylinder is more efficient. Using balance shafts, the 4 cylinder vibration is damped very well, so that vibration is nearly as smooth as a V8, but with a more efficient 4 cylinder engine. A turbocharger rams more air thru the engine. If 1 atmosphere of boost (14.7 psi) is rammed thru an efficient intercooler, then the engine displacement is effectively doubled. So the 2.7 L 4 cylinder, with 14.7 pounds of intercooled boost effectively becomes a 5.4L 4 cylinder. And a 5.4 L 4 cylinder has pistons twice the size of a 5.4 L V8. The bigger pistons of the 4 have a faster torque rise than a same displacement V8, meaning the 4 cylinder makes the same or more power at lower RPM than a V8. The reason the V8 has to rev to higher RPM to make the same power and torque as a same displacement 4 cylinder is because the smaller V8 pistons fire 90 degrees apart and cannot possibly make the same power / torque at the lower RPM of the 4 cylinder. The beauty of a 2.7 L inline 4 cylinder is that it has the same stout bottom end, crankshaft strength and 5 main bearings as a 5.4 L V8. Ford's 2.7L V6 turbo has the bottom end, crankshaft, and 4 main bearings of a 1.35L 3-cylinder. Ford will have a lot of durability issues trying to get 400 ft lbs of torque out of that 2.7L V6, while GM's stout 2.7 L inline 4 will handle 430 ft lbs torque without issue. Also, that big 2.7L 4 can easily make a lot more HP at the top end if GM lets it. Also, if that 2.7 L 4 were upsized to 3.5 L, 600 ft lbs of torque would be no problem. That would be a gas 4-cylinder turbo rivaling turbo-diesel torque levels.

@@mikeyshouseofbrakes8463 I've driven semis for more than 30 years. NEVER had a turbo go out, most trucks drove past 400,000 miles, one past 600,000 miles. Turbocharging is a very mature technology, that really came into its own during WW2. The B17, B24 and B29's all used turbos, as did P38 Lightnings and P47 Thunderbolts. GM has really done its homework on this turbo setup on the 2.7 L inline 4 cylinder. Not only does the 2.7 circulate oil electrically, it also circulates coolant to keep the bearing cool after the engine is shut off. Even the semi's do not do that and those turbos last forever. That 2.7 L inline 4 is a stout engine, with forged internals, and having an excellent layout and design. Much stouter than Ford's mechanically weaker 2.7L V6 turbo. Don't know what Ford was thinking, but an inline 4 cylinder of 2.7L is a MUCH better choice for a high torque turbo setup than a 2.7 L V6 as the V6 is a mechanically weaker engine than an inline 4, and the V6 cannot make the same torque at the low RPM the inline 4 cylinders bigger pistols will create.

I've had my 2023 Silverado Trail Boss 2.7L for a year now. Upgrades from the start were: I don't like the low front end on a 4X4 truck so I purchased the Ready Lift leveling kit and it makes the truck look much better, Then I swapped out the stock tires with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 35's and kept the stock wheels. I never like a stock exhaust on any truck, but the 2.7L is a struggle if you want to sound masculine LOL. Anyway here is what I went with. I installed a Black Widow single in dual out muffler. BW has the deepest tone for a 4 cylinder. Then a dual exhaust, which always sounds better and improves power. I would compare my current set up to a V6 exhaust sound as opposed to a 4 cylinder rice burner now. Power wise the 2.7L has definitely got some pep. My only concern has always been take off from a dead stop to about third gear, it seems to search for the gear change and sounds very weak. JMS Chips makes a Throttle Pedal Plug and Play "Drive By Wire Throttle Enhancement Device" (Pedalmax - PX1920GMT) that is adjustable and increases throttle response. It opens the throttle body butterfly valve faster than stock setting based on the dial setting you manually set. I purchased this and installed it and I am 100% sold on this device for the 2.7L. Throttle response is excellent now! It can be set at factory all the way up to 100 which will spin the tires very easily from a stop sign (I do it all the time!). Lastly I installed a K&N air filter to improve air flow. So that's what I've done to improve the stock 2.7L package from my perspective. Hope it gives somebody some insight.

Maybe I missed it as I haven't watched all your videos, but I'm curious how much you paid for your truck? Also, why did you choose the 2.7l turbo engine? Was it based on budget or something else? 🤔 The only reason I ask is because we have been truck shopping. For what they want for trucks now, adding the additional fee for a bigger engine really wouldn't affect the price much considering. I'm going to monitor your channel for future updates on your experience with this engine. Thanks 😊

Sure they shifted soft but it was to soft. If you wanted to use your truck with the 4L60 to do work on the farm, you had to have it rebuilt with the "corvette servo" just to make it last a decent amount of time. Now the 4L80 on the other hand, that's a beast of a transmission. I would love a 4L80 in some of the 2014-18 trucks. Most lifter failures are caused by the nut behind the wheel. You can't keep the oil in the engine for more than 5k miles. If it's used for a lot of short trips in the winter, it should be changed way earlier than that... more like 3k miles. Lifters don't like the soot and sludge that forms in those conditions. My son works at a GM dealer and says that they have had a few Ram Hurricane owners come in that have had some turbo issues at low miles, but I'm not sure if that's indictive of any systemic issues. I'd join a few FaceBook groups about the Hurricane and search their posts and see what folks are saying. Good Luck on your choice!

One of the good things is that setting the speedometer to kph let's you set cruizecontrol in 1 kph intervals, which let's you do shit like 95 kph. In a ford cruise control is still in mph.

I don’t really get why someone wouldn’t buy an LT model. More creature comforts. How has the 2.7L been over the 27k miles? I’m considering a Canyon.

I just crossed 36k a few days ago. It has performed flawlessly. As to the Custom vs LT. It was 10k savings at the time and I got all my required options. I’m still loving the truck. Take care and thanks for watching.

My 2022 custom adjusts the auto-start ventilation to the outside temperature, it's great when it's 10° I'm the morning. Mine also doesn't make any noise when the engine is shut off. I'm with you on the e-brake though, very strange. I love my truck though, the 2.7 turbo really is a beast. I've taken it places where the trolls wouldn't think you could, and done just fine. Great truck

How do you like that 2.7L turbo or is the traditional 5.3L still better then the 2.7L
@jeremsgarage
@jeremsgarage 11 ай бұрын
I really enjoy TOWING with the 2.7l better. All around MPG is also better in the 2.7l. But the 5.3l sounded better and when empty has less throttle lag. Overall, I like the 2.7l better. But the 5.3l is a great choice too!

I love my 2.7 Silverado. What octane of gas do you’ll use.
@jeremsgarage
@jeremsgarage Жыл бұрын
Greetings! I use 87 octane gas.
@ruffxm
@ruffxm 8 ай бұрын
The OEM manual states to use 87. Some turbos require premium/higher octane - this engine does not. It is calibrated from the factory to run best on 87. No matter what ignoramuses may say about turbos in general, THIS ENGINE only requires 87.

@@ruffxm bet you change the oil every 10k miles because" OeM SaiD So"😂 bruh oem dont mean its good for the vehicle . If it GDI just use premium for the carbon deposits
@ruffxm
@ruffxm 3 ай бұрын
@@manuelmoreno6561 1. "Bruh"...you're showing your ignorance with a knee-jerk answer which shows you haven't evolved from what you first learned. Here are the facts: Premium-grade gasoline is only about higher octane. It has nothing to do with deposits in the fuel system because today's gas contains the same detergent additives regardless of grade. This engine does not require higher octane gas, period. Engines with higher compression ratios need higher octane fuel. 2. I change my oil based on the vehicle's use, environment and type of oil used. Synthetic can easily do 7,000 miles. I also take into consideration the oil life indicator - technology is great, isn't it? 3. The OEM is the authority on its engine. Do you not adhere to their other recommendations? What makes you decide to adhere to one recommendation and not the another? You know better? I assume you follow the spark plug types and gap recommendations, right? So why would you ignore their fuel recommendations? You can change your oil every 500 miles and run 100 octane for all I care. It doesn't mean you're right or doing something better. By the way I rarely keep a vehicle for more than 5 years these days.

@@ruffxm the gasoline is definitely not the same . Different detergents in different octanes and definitely depends where you go to mobil doesnt have the same detergents as shell. Yes they fufill the same minimum requirements but not the same. Its also comparing royal purple to something like quicker state . Yes they have the minimum requirements but Different detergents.. the gap of the spark depends on what plarform yes theres oem specs . But even then they have flaws.
