Heavier and a little more fork oil will stiffen up the front forks, however might make it less comfortable for an all day ride. Stainless steel reinforced teflon front brake hoses will improve the front braking, however it is less safe for beginners sliding the front tire or lifting the back tire off the pavement. Both the R3 and the Ninja 400 look a lot like 600cc supersports, until you look at the width of the back tires. FortNine has a good recent review for motorcycle tires.

Replace the stock throttle tube on the sv650 with an r6 throttle tube. It shortens the throw and I honestly think it just feels better. That's what I did to my 2000 sv650

That's weird about the throttle, I test rode one a little while ago and didn't feel any snatchiness, it felt responsive I guess, but not what I would call snatchy. In comparison, the MT-07 I rode that day before that felt a lot more sudden/snatchy to me than the SV650 did.

That might be it, I might just be used to it on the SV. Granted, it's been about 7 years since I had an SV, but maybe it's similar to my Ninja 650. (that I just sold so I could buy an SV again)

I dont know, i started out on the old SV650 (2003 model) and felt that the throttle was really snatchy. later bought a XSR 700 (MT/FZ 07 motor) and due to the accumulated practice felt more comfortable but recently drove my old SV again 6 times and felt that the old SV`s throttle was much smoother.. My mom has the 2017 version of the SV650 so i rode that a few times as well and its also smoother than the XSR`s throttle, though just barely noticable.. so dont know but i wouldnt really make any difference, those bikes simply have a lot of torque down low so low speed is equally "exciting" if your right hand is a bit sloppy and you like to hold on to the bars. But what i did notice was that coming stock there`s a little more throttle freeplay on the XSR. PS: i rode those bikes under the exact same conditions (starting with cold engines, same route, same slow speed maneuvers, same everything, even same oil)

I've got a 2018 sv650a, the throttle is better if you take almost all the slack out of it, and the initial bite of the brakes isnt strong but pull just a little more and I find them plenty adequate. The bike does not like to ease around, it's much happier up past 5k rpm.

Snatchiness on all bikes from the showroom is usually because the ECU cuts off the fuel injectors when you are off throttle. It's difficult to avoid.
@mrdrag0nblood

Other bikes usually have the cat and pre muffler in a seprate section in the exhaust. This is why the Suzuki models have such huge mufflers. The new KTM Rc 390 has a cat/muffler section seperate from the end muffler. The problem with that is that we have to buy a decat kit to remove the first muffler. With these Susuki models it is very easy to put on a Mivv pipe with DB-killer and without cat, this is semi legal in the Netherlands with the best problem free sound.

I had an r3 and overall it was a great bike but you hit the nail on the head with the dislikes. That throttle was so far it was like a twist and a half. I wasn’t going to change the throttle tube because I’m all about staying close to stock as possible but I did change the fender because that thing should be on a 1400cc bike not a 300. Being 6 foot 2 it was still a little too short for my liking. I just changed to a cb650f and it’s definitely like the sv650 in class so it’s under the radar but it’s an IN-LINE FOUR and very rare because everyone leans towards the cbr650f which is the faired version.

I've had my 3rd gen SV650 for about a year and a half now. I didn't like the dash at all at first, but it grew on me. probably because of its clarity and ease of use, oh, and gear indicator! the few other bikes ive tried didnt have a gear indicator. but i also share most of your gripes with the bike, especially after riding nicer, sportier bikes. the suspension and brakes really do not inspire confidence, especially at higher speeds.

Dear fellow squids, (or papa squid) I need some advice I’ve been wanting a motorcycle for a while now and now that I’m old enough, (17) I can finally get one. However I really want ether a super sport or sport. I’ve been to motorcycle stores before and I really like the feel of the sport and super sport bikes there, but my options are limited to a Suzuki 250cc, a Kawasaki 600 and Kawasaki 400, due to them having mostly dirt bikes and Harley Davidsons. The Kawasaki’s here in central Wisconsin are quite expensive (around 10 grand). I don’t have a lot of money with only around 5k to spend, but nevertheless after this purchase I will be quite a broke baby squid for a while. Out my very limited options I’ve been considering a 2018 Suzuki GSX250r which is around 4,700 dollars including tax, however it’s only 250cc. They also have have two Kawasaki’s at the store one is a Kawasaki 400 which is about $7,000 and the other is a Kawasaki 600 which is about $11,000. Anyways my question is what should I get out of those options, should I save up or should I buy the 2018 Suzuki GSX250r. I live on a gravel road out in the country but I’m fairly close to asphalt roads, My knowledge on these things isn’t great and it would be helpful if someone could give me some advice. Sincerely, A Noobie Squid

At your age (17), they will bend you over for insurance for a new bike. If you have no dirt bike experience, a used Ninja 300 or Honda 300 are good choices. If you have dirt bike experience, you might safety start with a 500cc Honda or older ZZR600 Kawasaki. I have a 2008 ZZR600- the power is low at 5,000 rpm but really wakes up at 13,000 rpm, and the front brakes are strong enough to raise the back tire off the pavement with panic extra hand strength.

I got myself a SV 650 from 2018 recently and I absolutely love it. It's my first bike and I researched heavily what to get. I really like classic looks on a motorcycle so I was basically choosing between the SV, Yamaha's XSR 700 and Honda's CB650R Neo. First of all, the SV is the least expensive of these bikes. The XSR/MT07 platform is really nice, but the sound just isn't that great tbh and it basically has the same engine stats as the SV. The CB650 is a 4 cylinder, making it way heavier than the SV and the XSR, and also not producing that much more power. Also I prefer the V-Twin sound over the parallel four cylinder one. For relation bike/money, I think you get the most out of the SV, there are really nice ones out there for a good price. The XSR is one of a kind with it's looks, but comes in with 2000$ on top. If you like 4 cylinders I'd recommend the CB650 in this class, even though it is the heaviest and most expensive of these. Anyway, have fun.

Sv650's have notoriously bad brakes, even for people not accustomed to supersports. Even after pads, fluid and ss lines, the brakes only get the job done, they never feel truly excellent. All the more reason to go for a gixxer front.

Have you bought one? I specifically worked with a supplier that has super comfortable clothing. The designs were created from an actual graphic designer, and on top of that when you buy one you get entered to win a free motorcycle. I think $28 for a shirt is more than fair (I’m not cutting a huge margin on them either tbh)
@TheresGabe
@TheresGabe 4 жыл бұрын
@@yammienoob Definitely didn't think you were taking a big cut. I'm looking at the hat options, and wishing there was more, and that the snapback option, (I don't do old guy hats) wasn't just the single thread outline for $34 for a snap back hat. I LOVE supporting/repping youtubers through merch. a $34 snapback with a minimal logo is a tough sell. I can get a fitted hat for $8 and get #YammieNoob stitched on it for $17 at Lids
