A ninja 400 vs r3 video will make you millions of views
@jaredshelton4718

Ninja 400 for larger engine, more speed and more standard features, including a slipper clutch. Yam R3 for more flickability in turns, Slightly cheaper insurance, and slightly better resale value. Both have high quality fit and finish. Both are extremely reliable and cheap to operate/maintain. Me personally, I'd choose the Ninja 400, that's actually the bike I'm shopping for now, I owned a blue 2016 Yamaha R3.

I think the Ninja 400, R3, and CBR500R would be good competition against each other. I think that the R3's peakier power would be better at teaching how to ride supersport bikes, while the Ninja 400 is easier power and probably not as racey, a good middle ground while the CBR500R would be the torquiest and be the best for highways/commuting.

@@5fdpfan32 When it comes to the 'will scare new riders' part? Well, how much a new rider can manage is very subjective. One new rider might not be able to, and others might be able to start on an r6. I am taking my bike license on a bike with a similar engine (the Gladius) so I'll be used to the power already.

@@benjaminjensen3196 I also got my licence on a gladius however, my first bike had around half the power of the suzuki. Bought a SR 400 (still have it) GREAT bike for around town or just chilling on back roads but 55 plus miles per hour or more not so much. The old saying is is it more fun riding a slower bike fast or a fast bike slow? I’m of the opinion go for the slower bike. The R3 is more than enough for the street.

Noob - I had a '17 SV650, and it was great but IMHO was a bit too much for an absolute newbie - whiskey throttle is a real risk. After that initial "no idea" and "panic" phase, it is fine. Nice mods are CRG lanesplitters, the optional seat, and of course tail tidy. The standard light globe is a bit dull, but throw one of the higher output white lights significantly improves night riding and makes the bike more visible during the day. Great bike and a lot of fun on track.

My first bike was a 2004 SV650s way back in 2006. I had it for years before i was forced to sell it due to moving costs. I have had a ZX-6R, a CBR 1000rr and a Speed triple since then but I still miss that bike. It was my main form of transportation for most of my early 20's. I have many fond memories of it and I would highly recommend it to any beginner or to someone who wants a bike that they can open up on the street but still have enough power to keep up with super sports when riding in groups.

I think the sv650 is the perfect motorcycle, but since having a rare sv1000 I don't know if I could handle being back on the 650. Can't speak for the faired versions of the bike, but the nakeds are really interesting (03 was the only naked from the factory and the engine IS tuned different). It is so punchy, the 650 definitely gave me some scares as more of a beginner, but the 1000 is almost too much. It really DOESN'T have too much more power than a 650, and if you modify a 650 you're moving about just as fast. But I'm constantly spinning up the rear tire on a hard take off. I can't power wheelie it because it just spins haha. Still about as light and flicky as the 650 but has a stock steering damper. 140mph is easy except for the wind whipping over the naked front end. Love it.
@Elwon20

If you cant power wheelie because the rear just lights up, your rear shock is likely set up too stiff.

Definitely keen to have a play with an SV650. Had its 1997 predecessor TL1000S and that thing was super scary (even with over half million kms experience - approx 310,000 miles) with a top speed of 280km (about 170 mph), roughly 120Hp and inadequate front suspension that made it dangerous entering corners too hot. Definitely a bike that encouraged mischief!

You are spot on with your SV650 review. I picked up mine, new old stock, for 4200 bucks, just under 5k out the door. The throttle is super responsive and could easily freak out a new rider, but the clutch assist makes it super easy to practice slow speed maneuvers. I did add a windscreen, from Puig, vibrates at highway speeds, but I modified it to reduce that. Lifts the air off the chest and onto the helmet. My biggest complaint about the SV is the exhaust. When I move onto the balls of my feet, my heel sits on the HUGE exhaust. Have fun, be safe!

Yammie on the topic of rev matching the r3. I too felt the same concerns on my ninja 300. Like it needed some decent twist to get the rpms high enough to rev match. Once I took off that bazooka called a muffler and added a slip on the throttle because noticeably more active and rev matching takes less twisting. Now it is a peach to rev match

That was a very accurate review of the SV. My 2017 SV is a lot of fun. I can confirm the snappy throttle adds to the fun - once you get used to it. My previous bikes were a CBR600 and CBR1000. For me, the SV is way more fun than those bikes. I wouldn't really recommend the SV as a first bike. I have ridden the FZ/MT-07 also. Although that bike is somewhat snappy as well, it feels more twitchy and unstable compared to the SV. And the FZ's seat was uncomfortably rock hard.

The wooden-feeling brakes on the R3 may be a feature. New riders don't have a disciplined brake hand, and if they unintentionally brake too roughly, the R3 will be a little more forgiving. It still has stopping power though. You can put on a more aggressive set of brake pads after you have worn out the stock ones.

The extended throttle travel is likely deliberate because it's a beginner's bike. As a new rider I can tell you that, at least to start with, its super easy to end up with a fist full more throttle than is a good idea, completely by accident. If the throttle is more sensitive then bad things could happen.

The R3 revs to 12.5K RPM power band is between 8K RPM and 11.5K RPM. Don't forget it also now has USD Forks. For the breaks I went with DOT 5.1, felt better at longer durations of breaking. After the breaks bed-in it does start to feel a lot better.

I've got that same R3 ♥️ I've been on dirt bikes but it's my first sports bike. I love it! Happy with the power and the handling. Definitely don't regret it vs getting a 600. However, I will get a 600 as my second bike. I'm going to keep the R3 and mod the fuck out of it. Looks beautiful too.

I have a gyrt yamaha r3 2019 race spec for the road in Asia 5th and 6th gears are overdrive The front brake is bad the Dunlops are not the best and the abs cuts in way to early I put a slipper clutch in mine and makes a world of difference as well as the brembo calipers and Sc1 pirelli slicks I use in the road

I want one of those SV650’s so bad I can taste it. It’s a definite must have on my motorcycle bucket list. I’m seriously considering actually trading in my 2017 ZX10R for one. My ZX10R is just too much for where I live. I have to constantly keep track that I’m not going way too fast everywhere I go. Frankly it is scary at times.

@@techniknachhilfe1666 you should get the ninja 400. You won't grow out of it. I had my ninja 400 for 6 months now and it's a great bike. I used to have a r6. The ninja 400 is way more fun in my opinion

@@techniknachhilfe1666 it's way less heavier. So very fun on the twisties. And it's very comfortable. The dash is better. Better fuel economy. Insurance is cheap. And overal looks good.

@@techniknachhilfe1666 I agree with the other person. The ninja 400 is a much better option. I commute on my 300 and my biggest complaint is the lack of power at highway speeds. The 400, as I've been told seems to fix this without adding weight. Ergonomics seem to be better but that might be from the bike being a bit bigger. I don't feel bored with my 300 yet its a great little bike.
