Got a red one of the same vintage as yours. Had to wrap the shifter cover because the rubber coating on it was flaking due to age - I'm assuming your entire radio bezel is coated with that stuff. I also replaced the shifter itself with a billet aluminum short-throw shifter and got a new shift knob, it made a lot of difference. Mine's red, and it's got some clearcoat flaking, but nowhere near as bad as yours - if it was *that* far gone I'd have just sanded it all down, sprayed some really cheap autopaint on it to make it smooth and then wrapped the car. The stock engine won't win you any pink slips at drag races but it'll get you where you need to go in a brisk-enough fashion. Its strongest feature is that it's mechanically simple and relatively resilient. In addition, the electronics are rather simple and logically laid out, easy to modify and repair. In general the car is really nice to work on, though there are some small things that could have been done better. For example the nuts holding in the shifter cable plate, or the bolts holding in the upper intake support plate at the back of the engine - you really need to squeeze your hands in there. All in all it's a good car; they don't make anything quite like it anymore, and I really wish people would have given the Tiburon more love when it was in production.

I never drove a totally stock one, but I have zero power issues with the 2.7, but the previous owner put headers, cat-back, and intake on it and it jams pretty good. I do want a supercharger for it, just because they make them so much badder. The only complaint that I have with them is they're not racoon proof. I hit one and bend the cross-member that holds the radiator and it broke of on of the posts that holds the radiator in. I had to JB Weld where them post was to get it to stop leaking, but it's working fine now, until I put a new one on. Mine is quick as hell, but like all small cars like it, you have to run high rpms. It's only starting to wake up a 3,000 rpm and has zero issues pushing it up to 6,500. I love the way mine sounds when you're getting on it. It's fairly quiet when you keep it under 3,000 rpm, but once the tach says 3, it's starts screaming. What I like best about them is that there are not very many of them around where I live, so it's not something that is very common. My windows are tinted way to dark to be legal, but the cops don't really seem to bat an eye at it. I think they are fine cars with plenty of mods out there for them. A very fun hobby to get into. Don't get my wrong, your opinions of the things you dislike are completely valid. I know I've been loving driving mine around and I've had all sorts of Camaros and Mustangs. With very little work, I think I can make mine bad as hell. I'm a robotic paint line engineer, so I have access to some kick ass auto paint for dirt cheap. Eventually, I think I'm going to paint mine up.
@Maverick-wp4gq Жыл бұрын
I hit a raccoon dead center doing 70 on the dark interstate. Cracked the front bumper vertical support rib pieces. Bent the radiator support and snapped the ambient temp sensor off. Hit a second one going 35 on the drivers side and ran him over with both front and back wheels. Got just a small crack and some stuck hair. So the bumpers take a beating. I work 2nd shift and dodge deer and all kinds of wildlife driving home.

I actually agree everything you said about your hates and likes about the Tiburon GT V6, except I think front wheel drive might be a bit more suitable for it. It's because that four wheel drive cars were heavy, rear wheel drive cars were tail happy/oversteer, while front wheel drive might suffer from understeer, it's actually safer to drive.
@rushking194 жыл бұрын
Yeah makes sense abd fwd can handle good too

I have had 4 of these cars ranging from a year 2000 to a 2009. In England they are called the Coupe. They are generally good reliable cars. I purchased my latest as a 2008 write off with airbags deployed which required a complete dash swap. Now that the car is done it is a good car although I cannot trace a rattle which comes from the rear! In England the V6 engine is not common and most like mine have a 4 cylinder 2 litre engine which is more reliable! The only thing which offends me about your car is the liberal use of black paint in all the wrong places!

I know this is a year old comment but.... I had the same issue with my 08 Tiburon, I even rebuilt the shocks but there was still some noise, turns out aftermarket exhaust pipes were fitted poorly and one harness solder broke off so it was causing that noise.

@ElectroManGaming246 жыл бұрын
You don't magically gain HP if you changed that FWD car into a RWD. The only thing that changes would be the driving experience (1:51). AWD (kinda) does because it can distribute HP/Torque to all 4 wheels at the same time making 0-60 times faster, but the only thing that RWD has over FWD is drifting (which is possible in FWD). Many sport car enthusiasts prefer the RWD because the handling can be more fun.
@rushking196 жыл бұрын
---ElectroMan--- who said you gain hp from that?

You would have less power with rear wheel drive due to drive train losses as the power has to be transferred all the way to the back of the car

doesn’t look like any other car.. except for the 3g mitsubishi eclipse. the back of the car looks so similar. the trunk, back windshield, gas cap, tail lights. if i’m not mistaken it has a very very similar engine too correct???
@rushking19 Жыл бұрын
The 3g eclipse is a whole different shape and the taillights also look nothing like the 3g . The motors are also very different. The v6 in the tiburon is slightly 6g based but has major differences and no internal engine parts can swap over to the 3g stuff. The 3g has a 6g72 engine single cam 3.0l. The tiburon has a 2.7l dual cam motor .

Only thing about that engine being boosted is that it's an aluminum block. Whether the block holds 7psi of boost is hit or miss. Some blocks get blown to bits by the boost, and others take it like a champ.
@rushking196 жыл бұрын
Sean Ekstrom aluminum block doesn't matter at this low of a HP look at Honda's for example look high of HP there making on an aluminum block, and look at gtr's there aluminum the whole aluminum block thing don't really matter till really high insane HP levels, and the block can take way more than 7 and boost don't really matter it's the air flow of the turbo that matters, and keeping a delta together on stock internals is all about keeping the combination chamber temps down so you don't melt the pistons or crack a ring land once that's done your good till 450 around when the rods give up
@5Genjoyer6 жыл бұрын
That is so much horseshit I don't even know where to start. Have you been listening to the tards on the New Tiburon forum that haven't built their tibs yet? Pay attention to the guys who have done them. There's so many blocks on there that have been blown at 8-10 psi it's not even funny. Hyundai did not have high strength aluminum alloys during the run of the tib, not to mention the fact that these blocks are paper thin compared to other aluminum blcoks. If you think that the Tib's aluminum block is even remotely as thick as the GTR's, you're fucking loony.
@rushking196 жыл бұрын
Sean Ekstrom the block isn't a problem people keep saying that but have yet to show me proof of that being a problem like the block actually cracking in half, and it's just as thick as any engine block, the gtr engine block isn't even that thick at all its normal
@5Genjoyer6 жыл бұрын
Holy shit, you are dense. Alloy+thickness= strength. Hyundai was using shit alloy's during the production of the First generation Delta engines. That is a fact. That is undeniable fact. If you want to see cracked Delta blocks look no further than the performance section of the Newtiburon.com forums.
@rushking196 жыл бұрын
Sean Ekstrom I know that denseness matters but I still haven't seen a delta break from being aluminum lol 😂 like come on I've see the delta been to 600 whp and seen a couple hydro lock still no cracked block at all please explain to my why is that people keep saying that with no proof and here's another example Honda's been making crazy numbers on aluminum motors with only 2 bolt mains no problem so explain to me why an aluminum motor with 4 bolt mains would crack at low HP numbers with no proof of it at all just saying based on what everyone else has said because them, them self's have heard it from someone who heard it from someone no proof
