And motorcyclists complain that pedestrians are '' jaywalking''.
@llen156yearsago65 күн бұрын
There's a cheap way for that, basically just cordoned off the entire footpath with barriers like bushes, and any opening will have portals which is wide enough for wheelchairs but isn't a straight entrance (basically make the entrance windy so motorcyles become lazy to go in), Jakarta did this on several areas, while not perfect, it did decrease the amount of motorcyles riding into the sidewalks. Another much cheaper way is to make sidewalks very tall to the point that motorcyles cant climb in, and to ensure that all ramps are protected from motorcyles, install pillars or winding portals at the entrance like the first option. Imo those two solutions wont need cameras, but do need regular maintenance.

Nice detailed video, thanks😊. One additional point even though I'm not sure if Bangkok has this, is that most countries have different layers of mesh or layered covers during construction which prevents dust from flying out into the city. In multiple cities in Europe I have seen this work efficiently and each city has different number of layers for this. Now coming back to Bangalore, we haven't discovered this material yet😅. Now even at this exact moment I can hear the drills working for the metro construction near my home and see the dust fly around the whole area(Dune music in background). Making life hell for people in cars and bikes and even for the not existent pedestrians.

The real question is, how do we encourage our government and local bodies to learn and implement some of these wonderful things. Should we organize protests? who should we vote for? The city and state desperately need good leadership. Is there a community where we can join to advocate for pedestrian/cycle safe Bengaluru? Thankfully we live in a democracy and if our voices are loud enough, there will be changes. It was really delightful to walk around in Thai, even though the whole city was not bike friendly.

The fundamental problem in India and I have given up hope is that the constitution and it's institutions are fundamentally flawed. The leaders in 1950 kept looking BACK in past and focused on a India living in Villages and focused on those problems, prescribed too many solutions into the constitution and looked at urban india with disdain. The fact that you can SKIP elections to BBMP (Bangalore) or BMC (Mumbai) and not cause a constitutional crisis, shows the seriousness the constitution placed on urban self governance.
@SG-cv4pf12 күн бұрын
@@motog-rocks6544 US has an even more flawed constitution and has much cleaner and more organized cities. China had a guy who tried to go to war with birds starting off as a leader and look where they are now. Urban India can do it, but it has to change ground up. I live in US now but my family and I were in UP earlier. Political participation in tier 2 and 3 cities is much much more common than in tier 1. Until tier 1 realizes that it cannot coast by due to BBMP or BMC then it will still have these problems.

People don't realise just how far off we are from being developed, and it breaks my heart. So much of it comes from the general attitude of the people that doesn't value preciseness and doing things the right way. If it kind of works, there's no need for improvement no matter how inconveneint, inefficient and short sighted it is. The road in front of my apartment, which is a narrow gully btw has been under construction for many months. The construction crew first dug up the old road and left the dirt and rocks there for more than a month before coming back to start construction on the new road. Then it took another few weeks to make a road that's barely 20 metres long, and even then only the road itself was constructed, without the edges or intersection that connect it to the other roads. Why complete the road when people can kind of push their scooters down into the exposed soil and risk falling on the rocks and stones?

Bangalore has quite a good amount of footpaths, but the problem is wherever there is enough space vendors and property owners occupy most of the space leaving the footpaths congested and after some days they occupy the roads as well. This results in people walking on road and then the ripple effect continues. We cannot blame govt all the time. It’s the responsibility of every citizen to keep the place clean. If all the metro lines had pedestrian walks as in Bangakok it would either become a red light area or vendors occupying the space make it chaos, Which makes it unsafe to use. The fact is it lies in every responsible citizen to take responsibility. Which we are lacking 😅 We go to other countries and appreciate their cleanliness and works, but once we are in our country it’s the same as before. 😅

Its just baffling how both countries stuggle from a civic sense problem in the public, cause even there, we see spray painting vandalism and stickers... However, the only difference seems to be that the government in our city also has a civic sense problem. Seriously, corruption exists everywhere, but does it have to be soooo bad, that basic amenities aren't provided to some of the least dignified workers in our society? namely the Porakarmikas? Our city doesn't even provide basic working kits to road construction workers, and... yet we expect our city to function well. Our city's shop wenders don't even bother following any rules for footpath obstruction. leave that, even common rich residential layouts, with high end techies, can't even make, their bungalow ramps in such a way, where it is at the same level as the footpath, so that any pedestrian doesn't face any inconvenience. Zebra crossings are a joke in our country, and lets not forget about the shit autodrivers, that would try to hit any crossing pedestrian on the road, on purpose... Wait, did I mention how even lakes, like the Kacherakanahalli lake have completely been dried up, thanks to the ISKON guys occupying and trying to steal that land, and we are expecting the government to make parks in a way where pedestrians can avoid road traffic? seriously, when private rich builders like the Embassy group in Manyata tech park isn't able to make its road drainage in a way similiar to that in Thailand, how are we expecting any progress? I just think there seems to be a genuine IQ problem or some kind of Racial inferiority in our country, since there seems to be no other reason to actually explain why our country isn't able to make basic infra properly, and our citizens aren't able to follow basic rules properly. I am just fed up with almost everything in our city... We don't see the government taking any innitiatives of trying to reclaim illegally occupied government land to make parks, but instead we just see more land getting encroached upon.... Its a shame.

You must be joking. Bangkok is the least pedestrian-friendly city in all of Southeast Asia, often lacking proper sidewalks. And yet, you’re using Bangkok as a model to learn from?
