One of the things I love when my church teaches directly from the Bible, explaining what’s going on it naturally ties into today. The Bible is an amazing tool that lends itself to modern day teachings and lessons. There is no reason to “modernize” the word. It’s LIVING- it’s timeless- it’s beautiful

We have many "Pastors" giving Ted Talks rather than preaching The Word. I'm deeply sadden by the pedestal many have been put on, all the while they're too prideful to admit their wrongdoings. From what I've seen, many churches are being pimped by these people who we have claimed to be ordained and called by God and it sickens men like myself who would rather have a man of character on the pulpit, rather than a man of gifting. Thank you Allen for your commitment to push Gods timeless truth to us, really, your work will be looked upon years to come for those who are hungry for objective wisdom rather than subjective "tickling of the ears."

I prayed for a home church for over a year. I went to a friend's wedding and the Pastor performing the ceremony was different. As soon as I could, I ran to meet him. I sat in his church the next Sunday and found my home church. He teaches verse by verse. Its made a huge difference in my understanding of the Bible. I absolutely love how he tells people from the pulpit " if you came here to find your best life, leave. " " There are many churches down the road that do that, but I preach the Word of God!" I'm so thankful for that answered prayer. This is a great series.

“If you’ve came to live your best life…” is the type of thing Joel O’Steen would, that’s nearly the exact title of his book “live your best life now.” You can “live a GOOD, SATISFYING, LOVING life now” but you can’t “live your BEST life now” because that’s saying the world can be GREAT, but it can’t cuz humans are sinful and the world won’t change until Jesus comes back.

"The true Messengers are never adamant about themselves. They never claim special gifts and powers for themselves. Even their own genuine appointment, if they have to talk about it, they will do so rather reluctantly. They are not dynamic and strong. They do not project their personality in this way. They are not indiscreet. They are not loud and brash. There are so many people claiming to be spiritual emissaries that when the real one appears, they go unnoticed because they are quiet, because they are not loud and brash and indiscreet. They may not gain much attention, for the attention is all being gathered by those who beat their own drum and who proclaim themselves proudly, with great conviction." _The New Message from God » Discerning False Messengers_ - as revealed to God's Messenger Marshall Vian Summers.

We had an associate pastor at my church, who had a very specific way of structuring his sermons. He would pick a passage, such as the one from this video, and break it down into three salient points. He bolstered them with other Scripture and always gave examples of how it applied to each of us. I never failed to feel blessed by his sermons. He is now head pastor at another church in our denomination as head pastor, I hope they know how blessed they are!

Your POINT #2 is my biggest complaint, so glad you mentioned it. I want to hear about Scripture, not the pastor's journey thru composing his sermon. A LOT of pastors do that, probably without realizing it. "I was thinking of the subject for my sermon today, but then this & this happened..." WHO CARES?? It's not about you, i didn't come to see a live stand-up performance. Ironically these same pastors are the ones who always say "It's not about me..." but it totally is, maybe that's their Freudian inner voice talking. Drives me nuts. I know more than i want to about some of their personal lives. I like hearing chapter & verse picked apart, scrutinized, analyzed. Teach me something about the Bible that i might not have noticed before.

I was planning to make a lesson about "Bible Teaching Principles", and you touched 3 of the 12 principles that I came up with: Relevance(to our lives mostly), Application-Minded/Practicality, and Spirit-Dependent. I'm amazed how God lead you to dig in to the truth that the Bible teaches, and draw it out and compare it to today's time. It takes high level of discernment there, pastor. May God bless you and please pray for me that I'll be able to make many lessons for the church, for His glory. I was currently thinking of Bible Teaching Principles, the cross series and the body of Christ series, some basic Bible doctrines, Music Team lessons like components of music, role of each members of Music Team in a technical and spiritual aspects, etc.

I left my previous church for a few reasons, some of which you listed in this video. I asked the pastor before I decided to leave, why don't we go book by book in the bible and study each scripture? He said to me that I would not find that in our area. That is my desire. In the mean time I have learned of your channel as well as Cory Minor, Treasure Christ which taught me of Voddie Bauchaum and John Macarthur and there are a few more in the KZbin Community that have helped me in understanding scripture and studying. Also, Dr. Bruce Logan of Bruce Logan Ministries, here in Warren, Ohio. He is not a pastor but an awesome Bible Teacher and has a very in depth study of the Book of Daniel here on KZbin.

I have been enduring a great deal in my life, and have been looking for other believers in Christ, who AREN’T flashy, who are humble and who genuinely loves the Lord and who genuinely want to share the gospel. Within the first three minutes of watching this video, especially at the @2:15 mark, I have been saying this for so long. I do not understand how those who profess to have the convictions, those profess to be true believer of Christ, can on a platform, parade themselves, and adorn themselves in fancy clothing, jewelry, and makeup and fancy words and languages, it just doesn’t make sense…it’s very distracting to those who are seeking a genuine relationship with Christ. And the Bible does talk about this but it’s often overlook because of society.

Pastor Parr, This video confirms the experience I had when a visiting church attended my church. This church was doing all the things that you stated in your video. When I approached my Pastor about what the visiting Pastor was doing since it did not sit well with me, he told exactly what you described in your video about how we should conduct ourselves as ministers of God's Word. Some members were attempting to explain the visiting pastor's behavior by telling me that I should only focus on the things that they did well not the wrong things, but I politely informed them that God focused on everything, whether it was right or wrong. So why should we conduct ourselves differently? Once again, an excellent word. My prayer for you and your family is that you continues to you use for His glory.

I don't know where he hides after the service, but I never see him. I feel like I don't have a pastor. I was looking for a new church and was hoping this would be my new home. I don’t know how they are able to effectively keep a watch over all of the souls. I prayed for God to give wisdom to the man that He showed me would be my husband (God showed him that I would be His spouse, too) because he is called to be a pastor. I am not interested in building a church or a name for ourselves. God could give us just a handful of people. Very well told Brother. You definitely hit the nail on the head with this video. A lot of times someone can leave a service and feel they have been told a secular story instead of being Spirit filled from proper scripture teaching. It also feels sometimes that the preacher has put himself as a college professor and we are only the students and not fellow Christians eager to have a learned fellowship from Gods word.

Mr Parr I personally thank and appreciate all the knowledge and wisdom that you share with your people of God. I have been raised in church all my life and when I listen to your videos I learn something new and get a better revelation of the word of God. Not only that it’s biblical and we can go to the Scriptures and see the evidence for ourselves. I’m always blessed by your Videos . God Bless.

I would like to see more of the gifts of the Spirit in use in churches. There are little to no prophecy, word of knowledge, healings, miracles etc in the church today. I believe this is because people don't pray to God for the gifts. 1 Corinthians 14:1 says: "Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts...". In the early churches the gifts were very much in use.

Thank you Pastor! Well here’s my list: 1. I would like for pastors to understand and teach others what worship is, what it looks like, and who it belongs to, so that their members will stop worshiping the pastor out of ignorance. 2. I would like for pastors to stop using other people as topics for their sermons to bash them and point out their flaws. 3. When a prophecy is fulfilled and the beneficiary gives a testimony, I would like to see the pastors stop saying “I told you that would happen, you see, I’m a prophet!“ 4. I would like to see pastors teach, or bring someone who can teach, on all five parts of the five fold ministry so that everyone can grow in the area God has called them to. I’m sick of seeing pastors only focus on the one they think is most important, or the one they know the most about, and neglect the others. 5. I would like to see pastors stop dictating who their members can date, how much money the members should give to offerings and special projects, how many church services the members must attend in a single week, and other decisions that should be guided but not dictated by leaders. 6. I would like to see pastors stop being callous with people that they think rank lower than them in anyway, and showing fake humility to people that they think an opportunity for advancement can come from. 7. I would like to stop seeing pastors try to wield their spiritual gifts like a magic lamp that they control, forgetting that God is not their genie in a bottle. I would like to stop seeing those pastors use their spiritual gifts at their own will, in an attempt to impress newcomers in hopes that they will join the church.

Alan, you hit the nail right on the head. The part about pastors not using the Word throughout the sermon is exactly why we've been looking for a new church. We would get a few scriptures, then stories, examples, etc. but NO expository preaching. The other part is fear of offending. That's exactly what's wrong with our young people- no one is telling them the truth and pastors have capitulated to culture in hopes of keeping the numbers and tithes up.

This message voices a major need in the church today. We rarely hear specific messages brave enough to confront sin openly. The godly roles for men and women are sidestepped for fear of offending someone. I miss the preachers of my youth whose messages caused me to examine my own life with a spirit of conviction. Keep up doing what is right, not what is popular.

1 Corinthians is sooo needed right now. It talks about many important topics that I personally want to know more about. I have experienced humble men of God teaching the Word and you just know! You just know who they are by the way they handle the Word and how they handle themselves and those around them. I'm encouraged by that. I'm tired of the division for sure! United is what we should be. I'm even going to say, I'd love the set up of the physical gathering to be different. It's so weird that we stand side by side rather than facing one another when we sing! The gathering should be a joyous time. I want to sing with someone about Jesus ha ha❤

A couple of days ago I was walking home and I heard this woman in the park, listening to a preacher on the radio. She said it was Joel Osteen. She also said she likes Joyce Meyer. I told her that they were false teachers and that in the last days that false teachers would arise and deceive many. She rebuked me and, I could see I wasn't getting through to her. I said goodbye and I headed home. As I walked away I prayed that if she is truly a child of God that He would cause her to stop listening to them. Obviously she has been deceived. Could you please join me in praying for her? ❤️🙂

I have seen several of the points you mentioned. My biggest issue with the idea of "modern church" is something that has kind of gone out of style (thankfully) and that is the seeker-sensitive movement. I was a part of a seeker-sensitive church as a teen in the 90s. The leadership was very much at peace with people's sin, but were very threatened by mature Christians. They had a lot of fun activities going for the whole family. They were very laid-back. God was cool. Everyone dressed cool. They had all the latest Christian music in their service (this was the era of 7/11 songs--songs with 7 words that were sung eleven times!). They did skits before each sermon, that were usually parodies of TV shows or something people would recognize and be amused by (like a famous scene from The Brady Bunch or something like that). The sermons were always okay, but ended on a positive note, with no challenge to get right with God. The church wasn't technically unbiblical (their statementof beliefs was entirely based in scripture), but focused a little too much on the positive, and run more on emotions than truth. They would send people out to do evangelism in the community, but their brand of evangelism was inviting people to church and giving people flyers with the church's logo and the pastor's picture. When my parents actually really witnessed to people they met while they did this "evangelism" the pastor was very uncomfortable about it. They also had certain people they wanted in theur church. Suburban families with a two-story house, two cars, 2.5 kids, etc. People who didnt fit this (particularly the poor or even the lower-middle class) were made to feel unwelcome. The summer I was 14, I was helping at Vacation Bible School. The teacher allowed me to teach the lesson one day, and I presented the gospel to a group of second graders. Several wanted to receive Christ. The pastor and leadership should have rejoiced about this, but instead, they rebuked me, and my family was kicked out of that church. My evangelism wasn't part of their seeker-friendly way. Mentioning sin was too negative. That church no longer exists. That pastor eventually apologized to my parents. Seeker-sensitive isn't as much of a thing anymore. I think enough people eventually realized how unbiblical it is to be seeker-sensitive, since no one seeks out Christ without the Holy Spirit, and when they do, only the real gospel, from the Bible, will satisfy. Being pleasant and having fun activities won't cut it. After that very humiliating experience, my family went to the opposite extreme and joined a very traditional fundamental Baptist church, where we only sang hymns and used the King James Bible, and people dressed up for services. I felt safer there, since they were the extreme opposite of where we had been hurt. It felt a lot more reverent. It was a good place for us to heal. To this day, more traditional is my preference, but I've balanced out a little. A church that is truly seeking Christ can be modern or traditional in style.

I was saved in a church that called itself seeker sensitive, but I'm still trying to figure out why they did. The pastor wasn't a ""fire and brimstone" preacher, but he made no secret out of hell or sin. He didn't worry about offending anyone, either. He called sin sin and didn't sugarcoat anything. BTW, loved your comment about 7/11 songs!

If only it were that simple! Most of us would walk out of a church from the 1800's or 1700's! The church is just as much a reflection of its times as anything else! Ask the Catholic church how they are doing trying to retain parishioners? They keep closing churches in my area, and we had a lot of Catholics in this area! Because Catholicism as its usually practiced feels old and worn out to many people, especially young people. Its about adapting to modern sensibilities, but not losing the traditional eye on biblical authenticity.

@@inconnu4961 actually I would much rather the traditional look to a Catholic Church and the music there too rather than the modern building I lead worship in. I used to go to a Catholic Church. But I can’t follow the traditional and man made teachings which were added. It is all about doing what Jesus tells us to do, not what man made traditions that were passed down from false ideologies tell us to do. Just because it’s an old building doesn’t mean it’s a true religion. I definitely see where you’re coming from, but it’s not about that.

@@thebeatagp Allen, if you see this I would love for you to study or review the CEV translation. A fellow brother gave me this bible and it is a very hard bible to find outside of paperback. I grew up being die hard King James and refused to entertain other translations. It is my opinion that the CEV translation is perhaps the most accurate and it is also written in a way that would open the eyes . I mentioned this to the person who gave it to me and he said it was not until he found this translation that his eyes were opened. Just 2 cents. I do not preach publicly and I am 1 million miles away from being perfect however I do share the gospel as a whisper into those the Lord leads me to speak to in hopes that before their last moment they find God and reach for him to find his hand reaching back.
