It's always been my dream to own a bakery, a dream that apparently was shared by my dad's family They owned a bakery until it burned down, so I think it would be almost a continuation of my family

As a home business, how did you decide to price items, bulk orders or negotiate with local businesses to provide the baked goods for their location? Starting out and would love to understand how to generate customers and grow. Thank you!
@TheCakeMamas Жыл бұрын
I never did bulk or negotiated with local business because that's basically wholesale. I have an entire video on why I hate wholesale especially for small business owners/home bakers but if you're just starting out the biggest thing I would recommend is leveraging your network and then leveraging your friends, familiy, co-workers, church, PTA networks. The biggest thing is getting your products and brand in front of potential customers. I would also get involved in community events, pop-ups, farmers markets, etc.

How do you determine your demographics for a area when selling normal baked goods that are not specified for a certain group
@TheCakeMamas Жыл бұрын
Good question! You wanna look at the income level of the cities you are accessible too. As well as the demographics like race, is it primarily families, etc. You have to do the research. You can normally find this information by a simple google search.

How can I start a baking business that also includes natural remedies and eastern medicine to help people with whatever they are going through and any issues they are facing in life? This is a dream of mine to actually be able to bake and heal naturally so I wonder how I can do that in my home?
@Terri-o5q6 ай бұрын
I recall years ago being in the kitchen with an older russian woman while baking and I kept saying, "i do that! I use that! That's the ingredients I use....." She turned and looked at me and said, "you think you're the only one who bakes like this?" She had about 40 yrs on me and I never forgot that. There are thousands of bakers out there and though we love to pretend "we have our own secret recipes" I guarantee you, they are also using alot of the same ingredients, measurements.. Lastly a cookbook author once told me, "don't ever be stingy with your recipes. Don't be that lady that no one wants to talk to because you think everyone is going to screw you over." Ouch

How much can I realistically expect to take home every month if I am getting like 10-15 orders every week and I’m a premium priced bakery? As in, I focus on quality ingredients etc. I just need a ballpark number to know if this is even a realistic route for me. And is 10-15 orders a week a lot to you? That’s the number I have in my head for me to be maxed out

What do you think about the online bakery model? How did you decide to go brick and mortar vs just keeping it online?
@TheCakeMamas Жыл бұрын
I started from home 14 years ago so an online business model wasn't really thing then so getting into a brick and mortar was the obvious next step. I honestly OUTGREW my home financially. I couldn't keep up with the orders that we're coming in and with the profit we were making I was able to afford getting into a brick and mortar. As far as the online bakery model it has pros and cons like every other business. You don't get the foot traffic from a Brick and mortar so it's heavily reliant on pre-orders and launches. If you do go with the online bakery model, my question to you would be how are you getting your physical product in the hands of potential customers? I would suggest still doing pop-ups, farmers markets, etc.

Hello, I just found your KZbin channel. Your videos are great help specially for me who has a small bakery but no much experience with dealing with stuff… Can you give me advice please. Should I ask employees to clean bakery like wash the floor or a little deeper cleaning after work. They just wash their dishes and quickly map their spots. I always think that they get tired and it’s not right to ask to do more…as a result of me being too soft character I take too much work on me …. Will appreciate your advice
@TheCakeMamas3 ай бұрын
100% ask them to deep clean. Not only because of health inspections but because of common courtesy for the staff coming in the next morning. Also you want to instill in your employees an expectation of having respect for the place they work. No one wants to work in a dirty environment but your staff also follows the leader so you want to articulate as the CEO of this business that you care about how your it looks, how it's managed, and how it's taken care of. I recommend creating a "closing checklist" for the staff that is closing or the last ones to come in so they know what areas need to be taken care. This could be mopping the entire bakery, wiping down counters, dishes, wrapping cakes, making fillings that need to be prepped for the next day, etc. The closers job is to make sure the area is ready for the staff coming in the next morning. Make sense?

Hi, how do I prepare my staffs for an grand opening for the sandwich shop as far as running the back serving sandwich taking order and serving boba I'm not sure this subject is in your field but just asked anyway appreciate your time😊
@TheCakeMamas7 ай бұрын
Hi! This is actually a HUGE passion of mine! I'll make a note to film a video on this later but the one tip I would recommend to you is to continuously practice LEADERSHIP! I would make sure you're training your staff well ahead of time and equipping them with the knowledge they need to know. I would imagine you have created some processes and systems before signing your lease so I would make sure to train them on the processes you created in advance.

Unfortunately, I have had people try to pick my mouth about the way I make my products so that their daughters/relatives can do the same, the end result being that they'd stop buying from me. So yes, sometimes people do steal from you but I guess that's part of life.

Hi, my name is JP. I know you must get so many emails, but I stopped working because I had an injury. I’ve worked in the Hotel business my whole life but you know how it is when you’re not able to do things they take you out. it was horrible to work Ritz Carlton South Beach Miami it was just combination of a lot of things that happened to me not my fault but now I want to open up something on my own. I’ve worked in always four star hotels. I don’t know what my question is, but thank you.
