Eating Disorder Awareness Week is a national campaign that works to raise awareness about eating disorders and provide resources. NEDA also known as the National Eating Disorders Association started back in 2001 to bring awareness and help to those who didn't know what was happening to their bodies. The most common forms of eating disorders include Anorexia, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder and PICA.
For more information on eating disorders please check out:

• Diabulimia - The Eatin...
Special thanks to Suzanna, a local fan who helped make me realized I once had an eating disorder and hearing her story on her current situation.

Some imperfect NOTES 1. TALKING ABOUT YOUR BODY - people with an eating disorder are extra sensitive - don't compare them with yourself - they'll consider it as criticism 2. FORCE- FEEDING - their minds are controlled by their eating disorders - they have lost sense of proper serving of food - so force-feeding will them more cautious and fearful about the meal 3. I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH - saying that triggers those people - it seems like you're trivialising what they're going through 4. YOUR DIET - don't share your diet as it will make those people compare to you - they might feel more guilty about eating 5. YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE AN EATING DISORDER - EATING disorders are incidious, they're not obvious until it's too late - this makes recovery even harder for them - they might look normal but are fragile inside My passion is to share summaries like Started doing it on my channel with PDF summaries ✌️ Hope you all are healthy in this wired time of the world 🤞

Number one, leave them alone until they calm down. Don't try to calm them down, don't try holding them down, because if you do that, it's just gonna make them angrier... Once I was talking to my sister and I said that I eat a lot to make her understand what BED. I was saying that I had a problem stopping and she said ‘that’s not a problem that’s because you really like food’. And I knew then and there that I would never ever speak to my problems to just anyone. I don’t really hold it against her because she was young (15) and I don’t think she even fully understand what I was trying to say. But yeah I don’t really talk about my problems to my family 😐 I gave up on that because I know my family members and even if I try to explain it to them it’s just not gonna work. But if you think you can ‘work’ on it with your mum, course you know maybe your mum just doesn’t know or it’s not fully knowledge on the subject. So maybe you can try to send her articles or videos that explain it well and then she will understand and support you more.

My mom says that all the time. It really hurts me. I always try to tell her that it doesn't work like that, but she never listens. It took her an entire year and a half to even convince her that I had eating problems and that was only after I started purging. Still, she didn't get me help, so I had to seek it out myself. I went to my aunt and I think that made my mom feel jealous enough to try to help. It's been almost a year since I started binging/purging and almost three years since it all started. I just don't know how to stop it.

I litterally cried while watching this. I cant tell you how many times people have told me "just eat it's not hard." People have gotten mad at me. And I HATE when people talk about the keto diet or detox blah blah blah. So triggering for me because I do compare myself. I even get mad when other people lose weight even if they are overweight and it's good that they are. I get mad because they are and I'm not. Sorry for the rant but this video hit very close to home for me. Btw only you understand what you go through nobody else. Everyones experiences are different. Spot on with the top 5!

HoneyRose I'm currently in recovery from anorexia and I completely agree with everything you just said >.< this video was really relatable too. I hate it especially when they say "just eat" but it's so much more difficult than that. It also feels like everyone around me is on a diet and it triggers me so much when they talk about calories and all that when im trying so hard to stop counting every single calorie that goes into my body :(

Yesss!! My mom always talks about “the keto diet” and she has all these things laying around for it, and since I’m currently battling ARFID (hard to explain, almost like picky eating to the extreme) I’m just like “how do you eat these things without throwing up?” And she says she just eats them because it’s not that hard to eat so this hit home really dang hard.. try to break the purging habit. I purged for a while but my body realized that throwing up was really hurting me so I become immune to throwing up (I no longer had a gag reflex) and I panicked. how could I get rid of the food in my stomach was my thought. I decided to relax and just let my body digest and do the work on its own. really, everybody has the power within them to defeat any illness or disorder. never question your worth because your mind can play tricks on you. if you look in the mirror and don't like what you see, do you know why that is? because you are so used to looking at yourself in the mirror , you're brain doesn't see your features as special anymore.you are just used to yourself! but your features are special, they are!! everything about you is beautiful and everyone can see that. your own mind is your biggest enemy, but you just have to believe in yourself as the amazing person you are. it's alright. you can vent here or cry because there will be people like me that appreciate your courage of coming out and telling people your story. if someone says your comment is triggering, that makes no sense. clicking on this video could be triggering because it talks about an eating disorder. your comment is appriciated, and you are as well. you've got this, and you'll be alright. I always struggled with abnormal eating. Binges, secretive eating purging after a bad binge. I've seen therapists who said I don't have a problem but I think about food (what I can eat, what I can't eat, how to bend the rules) all the time. Just yesterday, I got on a waiting list for an IOP for eating disorders. My family wants to help but have no clue how to help. Growing up, my mom tried everything and it only resulted in deepening my secretive binges and overwhelming guilt. Food was really restricted. My aunts love food and took the opposite approach to help me. I was always stuck in between. Now I'm 14 weeks pregnant and only wanting to eat either by myself or with my husband. I am struggling to find a way to tell my family that I am seeking treatment and setting boundaries regarding food and comments. I'm honestly thinking about showing them this video. It is encouraging to know that my experiences aren't in a vacuum. Reading the comments encouraged me to share as well.

I've actually recovered from bullimia not so long ago and this video is pretty accurate. I've experienced many of the things on the list and I still get a little bit hurt when I remember them. One that comes to my mind is when I told my close friend about what I was going through. I was trying to explain how awful and useless I felt when not having control of my actions at all and how much I hated myself because I kept doing it. She answered "Yeah I get it", smiling. I immediatly told her that she couldn't get it because she didn't suffer from an eating disorder or a mental illnness. She said "Nonono I mean I get the not-having-control thing" And I told her "You shouldn't tell me you get it just as you wouldn't say the same to an alcoholic who is talking about not being able to stop"

This really hit home for me. I struggle with this every single day of my life, and that is hard enough. I cannot emphasise enough that relatives, family members, siblings, and friends and family need to try to understand that they cannot try and FIX the problem, but rather SUPPORT them and understand. It's already hard enough, i just wish people understood, and didn't think that an eating disorder can be resolved with a click of some fingers.

Hey Psych2go, I love your videos and helping others so I have 1 request for a video. The video could be a general, how to help a friend who's sad - but I have a more particular problem. A certain friend can go through very sad times every now and then, and when I try to help, I feel like I'm getting no result. All I can do is listen and hope that deep down it's doing something. I suppose I'd just like a video on how to be more supportive or a better "therapist" for your friends lol. Keep up the awesome work! Your videos give incredible insights and are great for learning! :)

Hmm, its difficult to say. Listening to their problems, being the person that they can vent onto, thats sometimes the best you can do. However, you could help them out in general, like helping them with chores, helping them make meals, etc. It makes for less stress on their part. Whether or not you see a difference being made, you might be one of their few lights in the darkness.

This really helps. My gf has an eating disorder and I’ve found myself saying these things and doing these things. Is so hard not to sometimes as is just normal conversation. Is a constant battle with trying to be sensitive, wanting to make sure she eats the amount her body needs, trying to reduce the amount she purges (she sometimes asks me to not let her go to the toilet) and constantly trying to not trigger her ( which even with all the research I’ve done I still find myself doing). If anyone has any advice on what to say when she opens up to me and when she tells me not to let her purge would be greatly appreciated.

thank you... this helped me feel like my problem is actually valid... i felt selfish as my brother said something that my mind probably successfully twisted... people can have good intentions but be extremely uneducated and... it hurts... i've tried to explain it to him without making him too worried but all he says it "not everyone thinks like this... what do we even do if we cant say this and that... just do it! your willpower cant be that weak" and as much as that hurts me deeply, i just think his life is too perfect (he admits to being fortunate and happy). i think its more of a thing you have to be there for but if they still refuse to stop even after you tell them how it effects you, then maybe you should distance from them (quarantine) for your own good... so i agree, they are kind of toxic for you... it can be hard to distance from friends and what makes it even harder sometimes is the fact that you feel like you don't have enough and when you finally get some, you want to give them your all but... the human mind is complex and not everyone gets you and there's nothing you can do about it and i haven't been able to make such a brave decision so LOOK WHO'S TALKING but :) maybe its better off you guys take a break... it may be crucial for your recovery.

I’ve had a binge eating disorder for 7-8 years and although it has gotten much better over the past 4 years, it still springs back if I’m stressed, insecure about my relationships with others, or even certain days that trigger my anxiety and depression more than usual (like the day my dad died for example). It makes me feel worse about it if someone like my step dad is saying things like “watch what you eat” or “you shouldn’t be eating that much food” in such a condescending way. It only started to get to the point where I’m aware of it recently creeping up on me again was while my bf was at college (which is a couple hours away, which means he can only come home so often). It makes me worried that he’ll abandon me like many other people have in the past. It irks me to this day that so many can be so judgmental to someone who clearly just wants their help and support. You guys have people that are supportive of you, there’s just some you haven’t met yet.
