@PawsofPrey3 жыл бұрын
I'm still skeptical about honey. Many use local bee pollen (de-husked) for an alternative for honey because of the unnecessary sugar. I'd feed that if you can get it. Local is best because you're trying to eliminate the effects of local allergens

I know u already made a video about meats you shouldn’t feed, but can u also make a video about meats that you can feed but need to prep for example you have to freeze before feeding etc. Amazing video as always and the last point about the necks was so interesting and I’m gonna have to cut back on duck necks and do those hormones come from the animal themselves or is there a way to be able to feed necks but avoiding those hormones by feeding pasture raised or organic.
@PawsofPrey3 жыл бұрын
If you're in the US, you only need to freeze wild caught meat/seafood before feeding. And these hormones are secreted from the thyroid glands that are in the vicinity of the neck/trachea, so unfortunately there's no way to really avoid it

I’m not sure what’s wrong my wife and I feel like we might just need to go back to dry food and it’d be easier on all of us including the dog.
@mamabear93893 жыл бұрын
The initial stages of raw feeding can be tough until you get things figured out. That was my experience anyway. The major mistakes people make when starting is feeding too much bone, too much fat, too much organ meat and too many proteins too soon. It is good to take it slow. I have also seen people feed way too much heart meat. Although heart is a muscle it is different and too much can be problematic because it is high in phosphorus. Also watch it if you feed eggs. Do not overdo them.

I would think that the thyroid hormone on a chicken neck that is sold for human consumption is minimal. I think the danger could be in meat from slaughterhouses used in commercial pet food where the thyroid gland may be included. Since my dogs have no thyroid issues after consuming chicken necks regularly for 11 years I am going to assume they are safe. However, everyone needs to decide for themself and some dogs may be more susceptible than others. One of the dogs I have is a breed known for HYPOthyroidsim. I am more worried about that which can be caused by consuming too much iodine from kelp or fish.
@PawsofPrey3 жыл бұрын
There are a few studies that showed this occured by consuming an excess of raw and dehydrated necks/trachea so it's not only in grinds unfortunately. It's great your dogs have been doing well though

@@PawsofPrey I do blood tests every six months on two dogs including thyroid tests and they are fine, although the one dog is low normal, definitely not on the high side. I am wondering if rinsing the necks off would remove the thyroid hormone? I have fed mainly chicken necks for bone over the past 11 years. I always rinse them well. My dogs do not have hyperthyroidism. Both dogs have normal thyroid levels, however one is on the lower side of normal. However, I do not feed trachea or gullet because I am more fearful of those, especially since I mainly feed chicken necks for bone.

Ok, this video was about totally overthinking the raw diet. And who gives there dogs honey? It's nothing but another form of sugar. There is no essential form of sugar for a dog. People shouldn't eat honey, and neither should dogs.

Many feed raw honey, as local raw honey has been linked to improving seasonal allergies, though I don't feed it nor suggest feeding it for this issue.
