I hate the trash everywhere. It's like no one has any pride or care about what it looks like.

Pollution is the main thing for me. You are the only expat vlogger to mention air pollution. Most of these idiots don't think about it. All getting heart disease and cancer but not even noticing or mentioning it. The Idiots

Thanks, it's so apparent to me that everyone is going to suffer if they keep burning all their garbage and living right on top of each other.

Unfortunately we’re all living in a foreign country where our voice or opinions don’t matter. I just go about my business and avoid things if and when I can. Stay safe and happy holidays 🎄🇺🇸my friend 😊

I agree 100% the Philippines is like the USA in the 1970's we were the first generation to start fighting litter and pollution. It was taught in school, PSA's all over TV. Malls were super popular. TV were mini series and variety hours. Family was everything. I moved here and thought I traveled back in time. I LOVE IT HERE!!!!!!! They need to start teaching anti litter and pollution in school put PSA's on TV, billboards etc. Start fining and ticketing consistently. They will progress just like we did in the USA. When I grew up there was trash all over the roads and water ways. Remember the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland catching on fire that was in 1969? We changed our ways one generation at a time. The Philippines are trying but just like us in the USA it took time, a generation. But it must be taught to the current generation to change. My generation, child of the 70's cleaned up what the previous generations did but it was not till the late 80's and 90's we saw the fruit of our labor.

Great comment. Thanks for validating my point. It's more education than economics. A perk of cleaning up will be a better economy. Tourists will flock here even more.

I hate getting stuck behind one of those smoke-belching jeepneys or buses, when I'm riding my motor. I also hate the lack of consideration considering noise.

Moving probably won't stop the gossiping and envy. I've been here for two years with my Filipina wife and the BS never stops. We've moved four times since I came to the Philippines and it's the same gossip and envy everywhere we have lived. At our last place, near Hundred Islands National Park, neighbors would gather outside our gate and just stare at our home and gossips amongst themselves. Every time we'd back out of the gate we had to beep the horn to get them to move out of the way, which made them dislike us even more.

I'm thinking about Bohol or Roxas, where there are more expats. Maybe we won't be such an attraction to the locals.

@walkingmanwalks we live up in Alaminos City near Hundred Islands National Park. I've only encountered a few expats up here. I don't communicate with them, however, as two of them kept inviting me to their homes to talk about some investment opportunities for me that I'm quite certain was nothing more than to scam me out of my cash.

There are no expats at all in the small town I live in. But I'm ten miles from Laoag city where there are some I have met, but we were not really compatible, so I don't really see them.

I don't know where "Jaspers" post went but no, us moving four times has nothing to do with the fact that everywhere we lived there has been rampant gossip and envy from our neighbors The first place we lived was my wife's place but it was too small so we moved. The second place had a landlord that refused to fix problems with the condominium. The third place were were told, AFTER we moved in that it was actually a transient house that only allows tenancy for up to three months so we had to move again. This was adter the owner in Australia found out an American moved in and for a substantial rent increase he could get around the tenancy issue. Told him to kick rocks and moved to our current duplex where I rent both halves. Back to the original point, yes, there is gossip, envy and that Philippines crab mentality that is inescapable.

They should ban some plastic products. They have banned plastic straws and plastic shopping bags here on long Island. I thought about moving to the Philippines to a high elevation area for cooler weather

I got married in Zamboanga City in 2003. At the time all the trikes had 2-strokes engine so streets were giant tunnels of blue smoke. I started coughing and basically caught a chronic bronchitis. I got rid of the coughing by cycling back in the U.S. and hiking in the mountains. As much as I love Philippines, pollution is a major issue especially for people who love outdoor sports as I do. Thanks God, 2-strokes engine have been phasing out in Mindanao so there are less tunnels of blue smoke. I can see how it could be one of the reasons for pinoys poor life expectancy.

It's hard to hear but just accepting as a norm the things that will ruin your country and your economic rise, is not the answer. I'm sorry if you are offended but looking the other way won't solve the problems.
