Guess the answer is similar to what made anderson silva such a beast: lots of rhoi... i mean TIMING. They had amazing Timing & precision. (Which made some of theyr techniques look sometimes kinda sloppy. But i guess that's because they traded some "beauty in technique" for perfectly adaption for the situations they faced. But i can be totally wrong on that, i'm no expert. So would be genuinely interested on gabriels or some other opinions 😊

Conor McGregor when doing that lean in and with his style got much success in much of his early fights and throughout his career. I really seen a big problem for fighters against him was that sometimes they were so caught on the hype, anger, wanting to punish him that they did not realize to keep staying relaxed in a good stance, sticking to rational attacks, adapting, moving around and going to the ground, or moving around and setting up for vicious leg kicks every time he did that prince of Ireland lean in. When dealing with fighters coming on the scene the way Conor did you got to really dig deep and diversify when training for them, respect what you are dealing with, but at the same time disregard the mental pressure they got on you, and respect them only to the point that you need to recognize how dangerous they are, that you need to out smart them, eliminate them, enjoy it while you did it instead of acting off instincts and emotions that lead to you giving it up to someone who is not worth more than you because you are there to win not be a stepping stone. In MMA you got to watch out for so much, the distance is so different of that of kickboxing, boxing, karate and other things because of the take downs and different clashing styles with limited rules, so even for top level guys being able to keep enough discipline to recognize when to adapt and transition at the right time ,or what to use more at times and not so much at others from a split seconds notice does not always calibrate out well the way people want or need it to. Conor fought many veterans who took much damage before him in vicious wars in that octagon at the highest levels... ware and tare to the mind and body is a huge factor in why these young cocky guys seam like G.O.A.T's when coming on the scene fresh with blitz like superpowers... taking out so many great names in a short time... when it is really just a matter of the current mental perspective of that moment and time of the current and changing times of fighting. People are only human and all greatness is subjected to complete failure because the other guy is able to keep his emotions in check and just revisit the basics better than you can at that moment. Great video my friend. You are a valuable channel indeed.

When you were talking about the power of the cross I couldn't help but think about a roundhouse. You can throw a kick and spin through which is stronger than the other way where you throw the the kick but immediately pull it back to check if you miss. Essentially mcgregor does this with his cross. Instead of coming back to defend and sacrificing power he commits to it and throws caution to the wind in order to add power. No wonder he seems to have more power. Great breakdown, my fight IQ goes up every time I watch your content.
@roppa1273 жыл бұрын
That heavy front leg got him in trouble this time.
@GabrielVargaOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Great game plan to attack the heavy leg. It's definitely a risk with McGregor's long arms. But if Conor doesn't catch you quick those calve kicks take their toll.

This series is gold. It was already awesome, but you've taken it to a new level by adding practical training tips that go hand-in-hand with the breakdown. I don't know if this channel's audience would like it, but I was thinking of the Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez fight. Even if you don't do an in depth breakdown, I'd love to hear a real champion's key insights on that fight.

Awesome video, I hope you do continue making these! I must say that the first 3 and even the 4'th you talk about could be also developed and/or enhanced by the sport of fencing. Bruce Lee used a ton of fencing moves (like his stance - like Connor's) and terminology and tactics. His brother was an excellent Epee fencer and Bruse Lee studied fencing to integrate into his art. These are all things fencers do all the time and are very good at. There are excellent fencing drills for these as well as these are some of the basics that all fencers learn and get good at. Fencing is all about distance, making the opponent miss while you are close enough to hit back (reposte), speed and accuracy. Deception is a huge part of it too as you must out smart your opponent several moves in advance like in chess. The front kick would be done very quickly and in a very straight line but with the front leg with the same motion a fencer uses for a lunge.
@mykulpierce3 жыл бұрын
Have you seen those old savate videos from early 1900s? McGregors front kick reminds me of those front kicks. They drop the arms completely back and trust hips forward. It makes sense that you're free to drop your hands because your head should be back and doesn't need to be defended as you would if you are still upright. Which reminds me of some of the tactics that Bill Wallace calls for in his side stance. Protecting his head while attacking because his head is so far back.
@AlexN20223 жыл бұрын
great content! A question: what do you think of using a bouncy tennis ball on a rubber band that ties up to your head? For accuracy and speed.

Great analysis! You’re going to put Jeff Chan and Modem Martial Artist out of business! 😁 If you’re taking suggestions: Frankie Edgar is a great MMA striker as is Rose Namajunas. Conor McGregor definitely has had a turnaround when it comes to how much respect he shows his opponent especially watching the press conference this morning. Nothing but a love fest! Hopefully that means he's grown in the past two and a half years since it Khabib fight build up and some of his drunk antics. One thing that I thought was really special was when he was getting praise from Dustin Porier, about whiskey and the capital that was bring in, Conor stepped up to promote Dustin's hot sauce. That may seem really minor but in terms of big money making it seems that athletes at some point need to leverage their fame from fighting to promote some viable product that people will buy. George Foreman's grill comes to mind too! That's where the real money is after all!
