I had the privilege of training with Saenchai, and point #2 is so TRUE.... he catches every kick, to the point people stop doing it, for fear of being swept... his body style makes it hard to target soft areas as well...I think EXPERT level clinching could be effective against him, if you can defend being swept, as was mentioned in the video. A good study would be his fight against Namsaknoi....

@Great White obviously not cartwheel kick but the rest is effective Ik that but in modern day mma those types of kicks and attacks is what you would call flashy because they aren’t seen as often however they are very effective unlike other flashy moves

If I can ever get Me Vs Saenchai lined up would you prefer it under Kickboxing Rules or Full Muay Thai Rules? My favourite ruleset is old school K-1 rules. No elbows, full clinch and throws allowed.
@paulpelle3046

No offence Gabriel, but I don’t think you’d take him under full Thai rules. 🤷‍♂️ You’d be the slight favourite under K-1 imho. 👏 Btw...have u done a Samart video before? Omg...that guy clearly WAS the GOAT. Kinda makes even the incredible Saenchai look pretty average. Crazy, I know. 😲

I would prefer Muay Thai rules. But old school K1 is also fine, that would be somewhere in the middle between Kickboxing and Muay Thai.

I know this is about saenchai but his mentor somrak khamsing is a lot flashier, likes to taunt his opponent, not as playful though, but in my opinion more fun to watch... and yes that's the guy who got gold at the olympics in boxing. Would be fun if you can do a breakdown on him as well

From what I've seen, Saenchai seems very good at setting whatever mental framework suits him best. Him changing constantly from being serious to playful tends to confuse his opponents, who normally follow his initiative. I'd say this is extremely threatening as a fighter: if he controls the frame, he can feel comfortable and dictate the pace of the fight. I'd recommend not taking this games not even slightly personal and focusing 100 % on the technical aspect of the fight.

Just awesome video again Gabriel, just like always :) My sparring game has improved so much, because of your and Stuart Tomlinson videos. I have a question / future video idea. Any tips for us K1 practitioners with catching kicks or actually what to do after you catch? I like to catch kicks to discourage my opponent, but under K1 rules I have trouble punishing since I can't do anything else while holding the leg.

I recently watched a video of a Saenchai seminar and he said when you grab the kick, then push it off so the rear hand (stronger punch) of the opponent is rotating with his body and he loses the angle to punch you. So say both are traditionnal stance, the you grab the right kick and shove it to your right so the rear right hand of the opponent is going to miss you or have very limited angle and power. Check KZbin for his recent seminar in the US in 2023 summer.

Man. Had such a great session earlier. Like 2 HOURS of HARD training with the awesome ex-champ Vicky Church. 💪👏👍 Everyone in the gym smashed it. We had a bit if distance running with sprint at end...straight into 4 hill sprints, then back inside and kit up for intense pyramid bagwork rounds, followed by 2 minute drills on eachother, followed by sparring (medium to hard)l...depending on opponent)), and did an 8 station circuit before that! 😲😲😲 Brutal, but f🙂🙂king awesome. Even got a little mouse under my left eye from a guy who’s a much better boxer than me...but I couldn’t use any kicks, knees, or elbows. 😡 Very good harder rounds though. Felt myself grow a lot today. Very ready for 4 weeks from today. 💪💪💪🙏

It is true that Saenchai is not the best at staying in the clinch for long periods of time and throwing elbows and knees (you are right that this is where many of his losses come from). However, he IS one of the best Muay Thai fighters when it comes to sweeping and throwing in the clinch before moving back to long range quickly

Just a comment , stepping away from a punch or a kick works ONLY if you step far enough to avoid it ,otherwise you will end up on receiving end of more powerful hit- distance traveled. If avoidance is not possible I would always step into the hit - less distance traveled = less force + psychological message I do not fear your shot

I think one thing to consider is his mindset. Saenchai has a light-hearted somewhat playful attitude. If you used psychological warfare it could throw him off. When people get angry they become bull-headed. A lot of cultures have no immunity to certain forms of humor, which could lower his psychological state while raising yours. I've heard that Thai culture values family and elders greatly. Perhaps learning how to say "your mom's a ho" in Thai and telling that to him would do the trick.
@sebsdadez
@sebsdadez 2 жыл бұрын
Ok, so, first, let’s assume that Saenchai doesn’t understand fight psychology and can’t see this ploy to upset his mental state. You’ve just made Saenchai want to really hurt you, rather than just win. Reckon you might wanna work on that game plan there bud.
