I lost my top at 40 mph which sent the roof flying into the air. luckily there was no one behind me and two motorcyclists grabbed the top and put it off to the side of the road....I walked back to pick up my top and It was severely damaged. what made things worse was the thunderstorm coming so I was fortunate that the top wasn't damaged to the point where it leaked. 1800 bucks later I had a new top and officially became a member of the flying roof club

I joined the flying roof club a few weeks back myself. Didn't latch it down correctly and it flew about 30 feet in the air once I hit 60 mph. I got lucky and it landed with the latches facing down. No damage to the paint at all. Only thing needed was a new latch handle. Cost me $50 and scared the piss out of me. Welcome to the club haha

Excellent video and all your points are well taken. I'd like to add to your topics a few more items. A lot of times we like to leave our car keys hanging on a hook in the garage so that they are handy when we take the car out. Be careful with this one in that if the fob hangs too close to the car it "talks" to the car's computer or vice-versa. Done over extended periods this will cause your fob battery to run down and is another reason to keep your car on a battery tender in order to keep the car's battery "up to snuff." Also, for those of you with a manual trans, remember when parking the car leave it in reverse and not in neutral or in gear. By leaving it in neutral or gear, once again you're activating the car's computer which can drain the battery. As to automatics, just make sure you leave it in Park. Lastly, I highly recommend you read your owner's manual as to the procedure to start your car if your fob battery is dead. I won't elaborate on this topic publicly since it is does add somewhat to the anti-theft aspect of the car. Then again, I think we all realize locks only keep honest people out, but if nothing else, maybe we can slow them up a bit. Look forward to your next video.

My rule of thumb is that I back any vehicle into any spot reasonably possible. It's much easier to look side to side driving forward out of a spot than backing out. Especially if you have large vehicles like trucks parked on both sides.

+Henry You are absolutely right. I have a 900whp Procharged C7 Z06, and I absolutely love it. I could have bought an older Ferrari or Lambo, but I would just rather have the Z, to be honest, which is unusual for millennials like me. If my engine explodes, a brand new one is only 13k direct from GM, vs 52000 dollars for an '04 Gallardo engine with 150 less hp. Not that my engine will ever explode, considering these engines have taken 1100rwhp on stock internals without exploding.

I think that all depends on who your salesman was. I had one of the truly excellent and experienced salesmen at Kerbeck show me all of these things. I had a great experience with them and would recommend it to anyone who wants a Corvette. So don't feel ashamed. This car is incredibly sophisticated and even spending the entire drive back from Kerbeck to Colorado with each night in a hotel reading the book, I felt overwhelmed when I couldn't figure something out and called the Chevy customer relations group. Also, when I couldn't figure something else out I tried the OnStar button to ask the question and oddly enough the person had the answer on his fingertips.

I did #2 about a month after buying a 2006 and yes you will be locked out. In a word, the experience was PAINFUL. Called a locksmith who immediately, as soon as he got out of his truck, said he could NOT get into a C-6 Corvette because of the indexing windows. So that option was out. The other key fob was at home...3 hrs away. The ONLY thing I could do was have the car low-boyed (sp?) to the nearest dealership and have them make a copy of the "emergency" key for the key slot above the license plate. The painful part came when the flatbed driver showed up. Being automatic I obviously couldn't put it in neutral so the driver had to DRAG the car up onto the flatbed. It was a sight and sound I don't EVER want to experience again.

Couldn't agree more on the cupholder and scraping issues. Those drove me crazy in my '08 (gone but not forgotten) Z06 and now continue to do so in my newly acquired 2016 Z06. Of the two, the scraping of the airdam extension is most nerve-wracking. I don't understand why some guys even lower their cars further using the damper bolts or whatever they are called, just to make the car look meaner. IMO its not worth the body damage that could result.

Im sure its not 1/2 as comfortable to drive in than the newer ones, but when I got my DL in 1982 , I promed I would buy a 1982 vette and put a little money away weekly..$5-$10...then I got married and 2 kids..now they are grown and Im single, so I saw one and scooped it up fot 1/4 of the price as anyone I have ever seen. I didn't ask why so cheap..probably because there are no cup holders at all...lol

I had a 1984 Camaro Z28 ,and a 1989 IROC-Z. Both of them sat pretty close to the ground, and I learned with them, to watch out for,and not to drive over,and to take speedbumps, driveways at an angle. They didn't sit as low as my 2017 Corvette does though, so i accidentally scraped it a few times. As for the roof, I had T- Tops in both of my Camaros, and knew about making sure those were locked down, in place. I did see someone who didn't once,so they had to replace their T Tops!!! Expensive lesson, to be sure,because they were all glass!!! I don't bring any food in my car, and only use drinks with screw on lids, to prevent them from spilling!!! I also never leave my key fobs in the car, always make sure that they are in my pocket, before I close the doors, or trunk!!!

Question about number 5 is yours the standard stingray? How bad can it get to get through obstacles? Like potholes or elevated surfaces?
@CarsCostsandTechnology
@CarsCostsandTechnology 7 жыл бұрын
+rollon babe It's not terrible, but it's definitely something that you have to be aware of at all times. After daily driving the car for 9 months I've only scraped the actual painted portion of the front end once.
@TheJh61408
@TheJh61408 5 жыл бұрын
As for obstacles, you need to take them at an angle, so don't scrape the front air dam. As for cup holder, get a Semoic Cup Holder for a Corvette. It might say for a C5, but they work for them all. Never use the center council one, as you could spill liquids on the electronics.

On the freeway, driving my C5, I hit the carcass of a truck tire and bent the cross member holding the air dam, directing airflow into the radiator. There is no grille on the C5, so this is super critical for cooling. I live in Phoenix, and my Corvette was marginal before and overheated often afterwards, just from a slight bend in the cross member. You have GOT to pay attention to objects in the road and fix any damage that affects radiator air flow. Oh - yeah, entered my sloping driveway at an angle to avoid scraping too.

What kind of gas should I use for the stingray LT3 Z51 ?
@daver.1288
@daver.1288 6 жыл бұрын
93 octane is recommended, that is what I use. If I can't get over to that gas station (BP) I put 91 octane with no ethanol in the car. It will run on 91 octane with ethanol but the engine might knock a little.

Seems like I remember on the cup holder, that it's adjustable. Of course if you make the front holder tighter, it'll make the other one bigger.

You're right. You can adjust the middle section, but just like you pointed out if you tighten one up it will make the other one larger.

Those rubber flaps are there for a reason, to rub on stuff. The corvette isnt that low of a car. It actually has good ground clearance.
@CarsCostsandTechnology
@CarsCostsandTechnology 7 жыл бұрын
It does have great ground clearance for a sports car, but that scraping noise still makes me cringe!
@gerthdynn
@gerthdynn 7 жыл бұрын
And the z51s don't even have the center flap, so it is even easier to tell that they are just rubber and that it is okay. What is probably even better than just the ground clearance is the fact that the wheels are so close to the bumper that the angle of attack you can get is huge. With my old Neon SRT-4 everything would scrape even if I could make the initial height because the wheel was so far back.

Other than the gas cap, I tell these tips to people since I was told the same thing when I bought my first C6. As for the gas fill up, I always advise a funnel no matter the car, I don’t like gas on my paint or making a mess.

Flying roof syndrome is painful. ALWAYS bring your funnel with you for gas. There is a nice little compartment in the trunk that fits things like that easily. The cup holder is even worse than you say. That little divider is really only in there very loosely. It can pop out on a moments notice. Also your note on driving slow over bumps is really important if you have the magnaride shocks. Pay attention to what mode you are in. They really do recommend that you never use track mode or PTM sport 1+ on roads due to the fact that the suspension is so tight in that setting. Good things to tell everyone. My Alice is a white C7 z51 manual transmission, magnaride and PTM with the PDR. Have fun!

The big problem with the cup holder is that the central separator is easy to push loose, at which point you have no more support for the cup and it can tip over easily.
