Another compassionate video and such a great birthday gift for me today. What I love about you, more than any other KZbinr is your ability to articulate the struggle. I love walking through your logic with you, and your encouragement to give ourselves grace when it's hard to declutter. There's no "Just get rid of it" from you! Your advice is so healing to me. Thank you!

Oh Rachel this sure hit home. I set a crazy ambitious financial goal to retire end of June which I will make happen, but I missed the point. Working full time in adolescent mental health with a double caseload through the pandemic 44 years in frontline is too much, and I need to let go of unrealistic expectations of myself. Thank you I really needed this dose of kindness today.

@Amma God bless you! I retired from teaching middle school art and reading in January 2020 right before Covid hit. So I was pretty much stuck at home, unable to do all the things I planned. And yes, I got bad Covid in March before I even knew what it was. I was mentally and physically exhausted after teaching most of my adult life, so I came home after my last school day, dumped all the school things from my classrooms, and slept for days. Guess what? Here it is May 2023, and I am finally getting rid of that stuff. At age 70 I really don’t need my teaching stuff (except art supplies, but those are essential for me) I found out most people don’t want books, they have everything on computer. I found out I didn’t need to hang on to my good/teaching clothes because I haven’t worn them since I left teaching. So fair warning, leave as much school stuff as possible at school when you retire, or toss it in the dumpster on the way out of the parking lot. Just saying…

This video was wonderful. My first husband was very verbally abusive, called me stupid because I didn't have a college degree, he died by suicide a few years later and I was able to keep the house and make the bills on my non college degree salary, I have come a long way and no longer doubt what I can do. I'm happily remarried with a son now. Life goes and and does get better.

I love the broom story. Last week I went through the anxiety of convincing myself I needed my two garden dustpan and brushes. I knew one was good quality and would last and had served me well already. But I found myself holding the other cheap one and having an internal argument with myself trying to find reasons to keep that one too. Then the universe stepped in, and as I swept away some soil, it snapped in two and I threw it away. But I wasted valuable time and space trying so hard to find reasons to keep it.

I love everything you said here. Thank you! I now tell myself when i'm decluttering and have extra "just in case stuff": "There is a place called the store. It is where things are stored for you to buy if you need them." This helps me to let the access go - because it's true! The store does store a lot of stuff one can get at pretty much anytime. :) Have a lovely day :)

I realised there is also another category to declutter, and that is, things that make you feel nothing at all. Those things you walk past daily and just shrug your shoulders at, not knowing whether you like them or not. If you don't know whether you like something, you actually don't like it. It can also go.

So funny that you used brooms for an example, because I had several brooms. A they were stashed in such a way in the house that I was going to declutter them when it occurred to me that if I put one on each of my three porches I could sweep them without having to go to the broom stash. Yes, I’m getting to the age where walking through a door erases my memory; so irritating. I’ve probably decluttered over 80% of our stuff, and I’m not done yet! So here’s to another year of making my life better with nourishing minimalism.

Fear has been the one thing I have had to overcome. Fear of failure, Fear of not being enough, Fear of being useless, Fear of wasting time, Fear of making wrong decisions, Fear of being a disappointment. I have had to learn to trust again in God, myself, and those I love dearly. I had to heal. Truthfully your channel and a few other minimal ladies I watch have helped me on this journey and struggle of getting rid of my fears. Thank you. You don't realize how much your words mean to me.

Thelma, I don't know you but your words resonate deeply with me. What has also helped me immensely in my life is to learn about Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Keeping in mind I know nothing about you or your life situation. It just sounds so much like my personal experience. Much of my trauma (fear) resulted from growing up in a home with a narcissistic personality disordered parent. I recommend your looking into it just to see if it resonates with you. If it does resonate with you..... I encourage you to look into the subject. If it doesn't resonate with you, please disregard my words here. 🦋 🕊 🦋 I'd also like to say that listening to Rachel, Dana K White and Dawn the Minimal Mom has helped me immensely also. 🥰 The education Rachel, Dana and Dawn have provided me has been invaluable! They have taught me how to make decisions. They have taught me how to let things go. 😊 I learn about myself as I make decisions on each item. I have learned to listen to my body and my emotions. Do I have the emotional bandwidth to make the needed decisions on decluttering today? If not, I give myself the grace to have a nice cup of tea and a nutritious meal. And I will rest for the day. Learning to decide on one item at a time and to take it one-day-at-a-time has been an absolute game-changer for me! 🤗 🪄 💙 💛 Here's to our continued success Thelma. Thelma, I hope you have a wonderful 2023. With much love, from Texas 🥰 🦋 🕊 🦋

I'll be decluttering our storage room today. I had it built onto our home when we had the house built. I had the fantasy of it being perfectly organized once. I'm going in there today, being ruthless, and simplify. I realized this as I was decorating for Christmas. I had many things that I didn't want to put up this year. So out they go, to the thrift store. I have a feeling my car will be loaded up by tonight with those items. It will be a lot of work, but I am really looking forward to the end result ! Thankfully the inside of our home is organized. I hugely agree with you about day trips. I don't camp. I don't like anything about it. Thanks for the video, it just motivates me for today's project even more ! Have a good week ahead ! 🥰❄☃💗✝🌞

Perfectionism is way overrated. We women often think if we can't conquer everything expected of us we have failed but our value can't be found in exhausting our energy giving up joy. The negative voices negative people in my own life had to go. Minimalism gave me the satisfaction I really needed in making my space peaceful for me. I kept what I wanted. Great job Rachel.

You look great by the way. It's good to hear we have permission to get rid of things. Things that have had their day and season. Where i feel wasteful is when i buy something i think i need and discover it's not working. I do take things back but some things just get dropped off at the thrift store. I try to be careful with my purchases but mistakes are made and i need to be more thoughtful and less impulsive.

So good to see you back! Excellent video! So helpful, even to me now at the end of my decluttering journey! I must keep in mind these 5 things because I have noticed that they do creep back into my mind. I can’t help but think what would my mom think of this journey! I know she didn’t like it back in 2015 - 2017, she kept asking me why was I getting rid of all my things? She’d say, “It’s so wasteful!” Back then I didn’t know the statement of… “ It will bring joy to someone else!” 🤦🏻‍♀️ Love your new painting and it looks so nice opposite of your blue painting!♥️

Here's something to think about when it comes to getting older and when you turn eighty as an example. My son says mom you're getting old and before you know it. You're gonna be eighty and I says well I got about twenty years to go. Then he says you wanna know how many days that's left ? You do the math l o l. Take Eighty years old minus your age and you get save forty years. Now how many days are left. Don't say it in years because it sounds like it's a long ways away. I have twenty years left as an example before I turn eighty. I have 7,300 days left. This sounds negative but it's the truth. I said to my son don't tell me that don't break it down into days. And he laughed and he says well that's the best way to do it. That way you can tell exactly how much time you have left before your eighty. Is to god one day is a thousand years.. So if he made the Earth in 7 days if it's a 1000 year for a day? For us one day is not a thousand years it's twenty four Hours. So what I got is a calendar and and you can do this. Figure out how many days you got left before you turn eighty. So when you figure that out mark it on the calendar. Then the next day take off another danother day and so on and so on. It's a harsh reality. Save for an example you have 8999 days left before you turn 80. Put that on your calendar and then the next day it will be one day left. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOUR DAYS.❤

Hi Rachel, just yesterday I was able to let an item go that I actually really like. The reason I have chosen to donate it is because I associate this item with a person that has hurt me deeply and intentionally. I've given it enough time for me to separate my thoughts and feelings from the item I love and the person who intentionally caused me harm. Sadly, every time I look at it ~ I think of that person.... So, I used Marie Kondo's method and thanked it for being part of my life. I am now sending it on its way to be a blessing for someone else. 🦋 🕊 🦋 In addition to that, I just filled up a gallon Ziploc bag of hair accessories. I just recently discovered that now that my hair is mostly salt and pepper ~ brown color hair accessories just don't look good on me anymore. So, it was really nice being able to purge those items. And I kept the black and white accessories that look really good in my hair 🥰 Have a nice day and I hope you and your family enjoy a nice hike and picnic outing. 🥪 🌭 🛶 🧣🧤
