Bang on with the 5 points. If I would've known how difficult it was going to be to live off grid before I started, I really don't think I would've done it. BUT, having done it I wouldn't trade it for anything. The feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment I get from living that way is almost beyond description. I really enjoy your style of story telling and very much appreciate you bringing me along. Many thanks!

My brother as an off grid cabin on a lake. Boat only access. I think that if it was up to him, he would move there full time, but his wife isn't there yet. I have been lucky enough to have a standing invite. We go over every summer. His cabin is built on a freaking rock bluff. OMG, 30 years of packing stuff up to it. Every piece of wood, window, chimney, stove, piece of plumbing were all carried up THAT hill. So glad he built it when we were in our 30's, because now that we are in our 60's, the heavy stuff just ain't going to happen anymore.

I like anything that has to do with Alaska. My dad went up there on vacation in 1957 and landed in Anchor Point just about 20 miles north of Homer and didn't move home until his mother had a stroke. He bought 5 acres for $205.00 and built a A frame house without any electricity. Didn't get that until he completed the build. He dug a 4x6 well for water 15 feet deep by hand. I lived there for 4 years until my mother made me come home for better schooling a couple of months after the 1964 earthquake. I never wanted to leave. Bought some stuff on your Amazon link. Wish I support all the U tubers I like.

No WiFi? lol, my property has an AT&T cel tower 300 meters from it.... and yet it is still about 40 miles from Ketchikan and has no overflow of city problems from the “cities” close to us... being off the road system and requiring a boat or plane to get to the land sure keeps out the riffraff... Lots of diversity of what is available in Alaska... there are lots of places you can drive to and more that you can’t, some have phone service, some do not, some have ocean access others have river or lake and others sit on mountains, some are snowed in half the year others get very little snow..... it is the biggest state (663,268 sq mi) with more coastline than all the other states combined (almost 34,000 miles) and the tallest peak (Denali 20,310 feet) and bigger than the smallest 22 states combined...... it is the northernmost and westernmost state, and with all that still has less than one million people total..... there is plenty of room in Alaska for anyone that wants to go, and places where you can be rural, off grid with neighbors, or off grid without neighbors.... your choice.... Another great video brother...

LonePawWalk It comes and goes... luckily there are still lots of areas of Alaska where everyone is happy with weed and booze and there are little or no problems with the people in dealing with those two. Of course, anyone trying to go to Alaska brings their own problems with them, and that sometimes means a neighbor shows up and brings their problems after you’ve built your homestead in a nice environment. My neighbors were all happy as crap when they met me, they were afraid I might be bringing problems, then met me and found out I was just their kind of crazy (the kind that doesn’t want to live in a city and is willing to do some hard work to make it happen)...

There is an air tool for removing the nails from boards that just leaves a hole the size of the pin that it fires in to push the nail out. If you can hold out for another year or two you should be able to get good internet even up there on the island thanks to SpaceX project starlink. They are trying to have the continental US covered by the end of 2020 so it will just be a question of when satellite coverage extends over Alaska on when it will be available up there. With the limited numbers they already launched they are getting a 250ms ping on a 500+mbps connection to a moving aircraft but they are talking about a 1gbps connection by the time the system is online for users.

ATTENTION MY DREAM ALASKA SUBSCRIBERS! This is a public service announcement for situational awareness. There is only ten more shopping days until Christmas and only two Wednesday’s left for the required Wood Stove Wednesday (WSW) video, or Brian is to be subjected to law enforcement actions charged with cruelty, especially against the elderly as most of us qualify for senior citizen discounts at IHOP and Denny’s. Stay tuned and hope for the little bell announcing our long anticipated video. Answers to all your questions. If there’s a new puppy, will Gunner figure out he’s training his replacement to carry on the war against the otters, to keep My Dream Alaska’s beach critter free, and warn of bears. Will Gunner teach the new pup bad habits like hauling ass at the sound of gun fire and showing his back end a lot to the camera? Will he teach him the Gunner trade mark stink eye? Cut wrist, hang nail, chipped tooth, what could be the next Brian medical emergency? My money is on pulled groin or hammy. Something requiring icy hot is my bet. Will Diana get her membership to the American Stunt Woman’s Association? Or trained as a paratrooper in the art the landings.....on your feet. Will she get her back of the cabin extension with new kitchen. (Brian is stressing that I brought this up) 👍 But hey, being nice guy here, didn’t mention the water system, new wood shed, fix the trailer, wet suit and kayak, just the extension. 😇 So stay tuned for the 2020 season and if you need to catch up, suggest working your way through the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons of My Dream Alaska. Yeah, there are homesteaders who are living on less. It is all very interesting. But a microwave is not necessary. I have piddled with oven design of late. One that operates on the propane, or wood stove, either one would be nice. Also, an induction hot plate uses less juice to heat. I'm hoping that it will work with an inverter, if not, it will with the generator. But the oven could also work using it. Thawing can be done in water.
@michaelharrison27755 жыл бұрын
I have a couple of 12v fridges, but I suppose a 110v chest freezer with a brewers thermostat will work efficiently enough with a battery and inverter. I have not yet experimented with it yet though.
