Most dish detergents have some kind of aggrigate in them to help remove food I do believe, it scratches the clear coat on your car, that's why you often see a bunch of cars with odd spots where paint is faded or the clear coat it missing.
@TreeFreak
@TreeFreak 5 жыл бұрын
Ok, what it really does is speed up the oxidation of the paint. This will dull the paint much quicker. A good couple layers of professionally applied clearcoat can be washed, but I still recommend against using any dish detergent. I also recommend using a good clearcoat filler and buffing on a regular basis.
@disgruntledegghead6923
@disgruntledegghead6923 5 жыл бұрын
Dish detergent wont hurt the clearcoat. It will, however, remove any amount of wax you may have on the paint. Doing paint and body for a living gives hints to what's good and not good for your paint.

You should be around when we wash our Jeep. And... been using Dawn dish detergent for 30+ years. Best soap for getting the vehicle clean. Think of wetting the vehicle as a pre-soak. Starts to loosen up the bugs, dirt, and grime. Rinses off the small stuff that will scratch the paint. Rinse each section again just before washing it, and immediately afterwards. Wait 'till you see how we clean the UNDERSIDE!

I am a detailer who specializes in sleeper semi truck interiors, I am also a 5'2"" Caucasian woman of 49 years. You had me nodding and cracking up about the ownership thing. So true! He did steer you wrong regarding car wash soap though, but Dawn specifically can be used when prepping for paint correction and must be followed with waxing. Car wash soaps are formulated with gentler surfactants as well as carnauba wax to protect the clearcoats and paint by kind of sliding underneath dirt particles so they don't scratch up your ride. Did he introduce you to the world of the clay bar? A whole new level of car wash preparation!

washed my truck 2 days ago. it takes me a little over 2 hours. and this is what i do each time i wash it... rinse to get all the road grime and dust off of it...top to bottom wash to get the rest of it off (and, yes, i use an actual car wash soap with a microfiber wash mit). and i go over each area twice. i use the 2 bucket method..again, top to bottom rinse, again...yet, again, top to bottom i blow it dry with my leaf blower (way quicker than a towel and doesn't leave marks)...one more time, top to bottom i then open all the doors, the tailgate, and the hood and clean all the jambs and hard surfaces inside the truck next, i do the rims/tires and under the wheel wells. i spend about 0 minutes per rim/tire...and they're stock rims/tires. then i hit those with the leaf blower. last, i do the rest of the inside. i have rubber mats to keep the carpeted mats looking nice; so i take those out and give those a spray and wash them really well, too. as they're drying, i do the vacuuming and the glass. for rinsing/spraying, i use my small pressure washer. it's got an adjustable spray tip that i put on about mid-way so it's not too hard of a spray but not just misting, either.

The pre-rinse serves multiple purposes. In the south, you have to cool the car off, other wise the soap will dry on it before you can rinse it off (but it still will if you don't do a section and rinse it off immediately, because don't think you can wash the whole car then rinse lol). Secondly, you are getting most of the top layer grime and grit off to prevent scratching your paint.
