5 Things We Do to Avoid Piracy

When you are sailing with your most precious cargo (your kids), one of the first things that came to our mind was safety and security. Are pirates a real threat? How would we handle a pirate attack on our sailboat? We had heard about pirates attacking yachts and about boats being boarded. There are many deterrents and ways to defend, but the best defense we feel is avoidance.
We wanted to share some things we have learned and help those who are thinking about moving aboard. In reality, yes there is a risk, but as with any risk it's about limiting that risk as much as possible. We hope you enjoy and if you have any questions please let us know!

Just stumbled upon your channel - these tips are great. Thank you for sharing! Q: how do you have your chain attached to your dink? We have a fiberglass dinghy and have an eye in the front that our painter goes through but it's not big enough for ... we have been trying to think of good anti-theft ways to keep it safe when we go provision. Just subscribed, and sharing this our socials. Super valuable information, especially in this day and age where everyone is sharing "everything" online ;)

Thank you so much!!! Our chain attaches to an eyelet on the inside of the dink on the back side of the exterior eyelet hardware. We use a D shackle with the pin sheared off flush. the fire hose covers the pin and shackle. We have seen some people will use a lock at that end too because it is easier than making the d ring. If you send a pic of your eyelet to us on our FB page I can probably figure something out for you. :)
