Here are five things I wish I had known before my first day of medical school. Having these down will make the transition much easier. Your study efficiency, happiness, wellbeing, and satisfaction with life will all improve. The sooner you can incorporate all five, the quicker medical school will feel less like medical school and more like college part two.
1. Know your study style. Here's a broad but complete overview of various study styles, study strategies, and how to study more effectivley: • Pre-Med Study Strategi...
2. Discipline is your best friend. Discipline in one area of your life will improve other areas of your life as well. "Discipline is a muscle requiring regular exercise."
3. Prioritize your free time & don't spread yourself too thin. You won't have time for all the hobbies and activities from undergrad, but you will have time for some. Pick and choose which are more important to you.
4. MAKE (don't find) time for yourself. You will never find time in medical school. Make it happen. It's important for you and your future patients.
5. Efficiency is the name of the game. If you improve your efficiency, everything else will fall into place.

@@Sandy-fy2dv Studying smart, means taking effective study time, using the best materials that suit you, and knowing when to rest. Ultimately, it comes to finding the study technique that uniquely fits you, without crashing yourself in books

Sandra Nyabuti (note:this is my opinion) I think he/she means by “study smarter, not harder” is that you should understand what you are studying. Most people say you should study HARDER but, people have their OWN WAYS to study. it’s either they study HARDER to understand or have your OWN way to understand what you’re studying. studying HARDER is useless if you can’t understand what you’re studying.

Yeah, I have had to cut many hobbies out of my routine cause they are distracting and pull you in different directions away from your primary focus. Study efficiently, but put in your own extensive research in areas that interest you in order to specialize and you will come out knowing what kind of doctor you want to be.

To be honest I don't use anything else than my lecture notes and Lecturio. Lecturio economized lots of my time and generally made me more productive. I subscribed to the platform because I liked the idea of having everything you need for USMLE prep in one platform. Now, as I'm using it, subscribing to lecturio was probably one of the best investments I made as a student so far, so definitely give it a try.

It depends my mood but I study more efficiently with music in the background. For me, I specifically listen to screamo music when I study (not trolling) and that helps me stay focused, calm, and awake. But overall I can study and retain info with regular music (pop, rap, etc) on low volume to block out actual background distractions. It really depends on the person but it is almost always a necessity for a productive study session in my case

~Two questions from a soon-to-be eighth grader who wants to study medicine~ Do you think a personal reason to study cardiology is an appropriate reason to become a cardiologist? Cause I'm born from a bloodline that has problems with the heart(not literal illness problems but like having weak hearts than normal people). And, do you think that spending time doing your hobbies can be wasting your time to study medicine? Cause I'm a violinst and I want to go to a med school with high expectations. And I know I need to study hard on the studies but I spend my time on studying and playing my violin, so I am very concerned whether my hobby is in the way.

It wasn't lack of practice. Like I said, I put a lot of time into prepping for my exam and none of the ones I got wrong were math problems. It was concepts that I knew but overthink and circle the wrong answer. Frustrating.

Hello friend! 4th year medical student here. It’s so awesome that you know what you want to do at such a young age! Right now I think it’s important to just focus on doing well in your high school courses and also take some time to help others in different capacities. Also, and most importantly, enjoy your high school years and your life. You’ll have plenty of time in college to focus on getting to medical school. Work smart and enjoy life. Let me know if you have any other questions.

If you do, find someone with whom you can partner with to focus on achieving goals rather than being a hopeless romantic together.

Study less not more. If you studied something for an hour compared to learning about it for a phew minutes then reminding yourself about it later on to give your brain a break. Dont shove so much info in your head that all of it just falls out
