to your point about the hobby being so vast: if you're just starting to collect, have someone sit next to you while you browse ebay looking for the deal you originally set out to find. every time you get sidetracked with a new "this-could-be-a-great-investment-too" card, have your partner spray you with a water bottle to keep you on track. you'll look like a wet puppy by the time you exit the browser.

One of the things I look out for on ebay is the rating of the person selling the item or the feedback other people leave if they have 100% usually its safe to buy from them, idk if anyone else has had some bad experiences, but usually when i follow this rule my cards have come to me perfectly.

Your fifth tip is a very good one. It's a mistake I see people make all the time at all sorts of auctions. I think it falls under predictable irrationality. Similar to people buying items they don't need to increase an order total and get free shipping. There seems to be some inherent desire or unconscious thought that unseen contents can be judged. Sellers will take advantage of this. I learned early on to only pay for what you see. If you assume the box is just an empty box and you're wrong, it's a free bonus. If you imagine it's contents you could seriously overpay for an empty box.
@jeffreygood7144 жыл бұрын
Jake- another thing some ebay sellers do to mislead the buyer about the condition of the card is they take a picture of the card with a white or paper background to reduce the visibility of whitening.

Another thing: If a listing leaves out a key picture, there is a reason. For example, if you're buying a single card and they take a picture of everything including close-ups of every single corner *except one* ask for a picture of that corner or don't bid. Learned this early and bought a single missing a corner pic, that corner was damaged but was hard to see in the zoomed-out photos. Had they put up a zoomed-in photo, they wouldn't have gotten the amount of money that they did.
