I am a huge advocate for working on what makes you happy at the time. I am a multi crafter. I used to feel guilty for not finishing as many projects as others do, but not anymore. If you’re feeling burnt out, TAKE A BREAK! you’ll come back to it. It’s not a race and it will be waiting for you when you’re ready. Forcing yourself will make you hate it eventually.

I was feeling burnout on a wip that has massive sections of tedious color blocking, I would sit and work on it for hours at a time feeling like I wasn't getting anywhere or accomplishing anything. So I did a couple of things to fight the burnout: 1) I started taking a photo of the canvas at the end of each diamond painting session. Looking through the series of photos helped me see that I actually was making real progress. 2) I made the diamond painting sessions shorter, one hour max for that wip. After one hour, I would switch over to a different wip that I absolutely loved working on and has much less color blocking.

I'm a multi crafter and stumbled on diamond painting to find something to help with other craft burnout. 😁 A comment you made about feeling burnout "at least once a year" really hit home. I go thru life and actual seasons where i just don't wanna. The creativity just isn't there. And, being introspective, i realize it's times when i have really low bandwidth - too much other stuff going on and I don't have brain or physical energy to do anything extra. I can tell when I'm coming out of it because I want to start/cast on 18 new projects. Right now. 😂

I find that it helps me not to burn out when I alternate working on square and round kits. By the time I’m finishing one I’m usually getting excited to work on the other. I think it’s also helpful not to put too much pressure on yourself to finish a kit quickly. If it starts to feel like a chore/boring switch it up and work on something else until you are motivated to go back and finish it 💜

I tried to do events as a newbie and could not deal with it! The pressure was real! I don’t do them anymore. I also change up my kits. If I have done a really large one, my next will be small, and maybe a low budget that I don’t really care about. I also do many other crafts, and sometimes do that, but I usually don’t go more than a week without diamond painting. I truly love it. These were great tips and a great video idea!❤

I'm going through this right now. I have a huge painting that I'm working on. It has a lot of color changing with confetti. Plus I ran out of drills for a color and have to wait for the company to send me more. Very frustrating. I'm trying to go in and work 1 block and then step away. But honestly I'll never buy a kit this size again. It's 60 by 80cm. The biggest I've ever done. Thank you for the video Katie. It helped. And thank you for letting me vent on here lol 😆

Green gets me too! I thought I was the only one 😂 For me one thing I am learning is that it is important for me to be willing to “skip around” on larger canvases and not lock myself into one row or column at a time. I’m doing Books n Nooks right now and going around the edge and saving the middle is helping me stay excited, for example.

Thank you for great tips! I switch between cross stitching and diamond painting. I also switch what I do while crafting. When I’m cross stitching, I watch KZbin or listen to audiobooks. When I’m diamond painting, I binge watch shows on Netflix or Disney+. This way I am keeping the two hobbies even more separate. This helps me avoid burn out ❤

I have three different crafts I switch between. All the while I leave my Diamond painting easel up so I can be ready to place a few here and there. I started back crafting because of my ill health to keep my mind off that (doctor prescribed). I’m slow but at least I’m enjoying it.

I'm brand new to diamond painting, so I haven't necessarily experienced it yet. However, I did experience a burnout for a particular kit - my first square kit. I did finally finish it but it frustrated me that I didn't want to work on it. To try to avoid burnout, I try to make sure that I have several smaller kits (like paint gem or less than 12 x 16 inches) so when I get frustrated or bored of the big painting I'm doing, I can take a break. I have noticed that when I go back to the bigger kit, the excitement is renewed.

Current wip, Mountain Landscape from D.A.C. I started it 04/14/2024 and I don't have a quarter of it completed yet. Between work and doing other activities throughout the week and weekends, I spend time on it when I can. Occasionally, I catch myself looking at the rest of the canvas and contemplate if I'll ever complete it. This is the second painting of my diamond painting journey. My first was in 03/ 07/2024 Emerald City from D.A.C. I appreciate the tips to prevent burnout. Thank you. Enjoy.

This is so spot on to what I do without me even knowing it was helping in this way! Because of that, this video had me so excited just listening to what you were saying and I watched it twice! I swap kits because I squirrel quite a bit. I just cant look at one thing for a long time or I will start to not want to. So I diamond paint and cross stitch everyday. Some days I do more of one than the other and some days I will just crochet because both are burning me out and it definitely works. I love the way landscapes look but I have done a couple and 1 has been a wip for years now. Its something about the colors that just make me tired. Its crazy because one of the colors is purple and its my favorite. So it will get done when it gets done. I need bright colors or bright pastels. Trying something new for me was sectioning off. Especially with a big kit. It would seem I'm never gonna finish if I looked at the whole kit. I have even covered some in release papers so I can only see what section Im doing at the time. If I feel burn out coming on, I do several of the things that you have mentioned. Other things I do is watch someone's playlist of wip and chats and not diamond paint. I just watch. I usually watch from the beginning of older videos and come forward. I have no idea why that works for me but it absolutely does. I watch your wip and chats and Rachel Rae's get to know me and the wip and chats. Like I said I dont know why that works but it works like a charm every single time. Then I go thru my stash and find what's calling to me and start. I usually dont work on a wip if Im coming out of or avoiding burn out. It seems to set me back. This was a great video!!!!

Hello from South Africa Firstly thank you for your video, you have a very soothing voice😊 A game changer for me was a quickstik, no more filling with wax, which has made a huge difference to my enjoyment of diamond painting I also find listening to podcasts while I diamond paint and having smaller release paper blocks help tremendously I have found more fulfillment in bigger diamond paintings and rarely do anything smaller than 40cm × 70cm, the end product is always more defined😍

I recently went through burnout and finally got back into my diamond painting. I've been doing it for about 8 months now and I've done quite a few in different sizes and styles. I've only been diamond painting for about 18 months, so I haven't truly felt burnout yet. In fact, I did a large Hannah Lynn for 4th of July (Lady Liberty) and I worked on her for 14 hrs straight but it was only my 4th finish ever. After that, I switched to squares, a very small 12x12". And then I went back to a large round (Forest Friends) for Christmas with, as you can imagine, lots of snow, gray spindly trees in the background. It looked daunting, so I started at the bottom and covered all but the first two "rows" in release paper so I didn't have to look at how much boring stuff was going to be from the last 2/3 up, lol. I don't enter contests for that reason. I don't want to feel pushed to complete something. And I truly cannot imagine the content creators having to pump out completions even when they may not feel like it. All of us "watchers" appreciate seeing other's completions.

I used to do alot of events, but I found that I had paintings I couldn't do since they didn't fit into the themes. I work 50 - 60 hours a week, so it makes it difficult to work on something for an event and maybe something else at the same time. It would make me feel like I wasn't making progress on any of them. So now I have done 1 event in the last 8 months and it was a relaxed event. Great tips in your video.

I've been dealing with it for .. about 5 months now maybe even 6 🙈 I walk by my almost finished kit multiple times a day its just... there are other things I'd rather do. But I feel bad since I'm 2 sections away from finishing it and once it's done I'll try a new company to me, maybe that will help. But for now I am not forcing myself to work on it I will get back to it when I get back to it. Burnout has also helped me purchase way less kits making me super picky, is the size right, do I love the colours, is it too much confetti, is there too many colours, would I wanna start this kit the second it arrives and so on

I agree with having some smaller projects to work on. After completing a large kit, I enjoy doing a few crystal bookmarks or a coaster set. And knowing it is not a race. If I want to give a diamond painting as a gift, I make sure I work on it 2 or 3 months before the deadline. This is for enjoyment, and relaxation, not work. I also try to vary between rounds and squares.

As someone living overseas, with a limited budget due to being on a disability pension, I have massive FOMO. I have 1 pen, no special trays, waxes or placers, and constantly miss out on almost every painting that I want to get. I'm also terrible when it comes to comparing myself to others; it can be incredibly difficult for me to see people take 1 week on a kit that might take me 2 months. I always try to have listen to something, usually your channel and an old WIP and chat, while working on something.

Ive had burnout a few times with multiple hobbies, and I agree it's so important to not beat yourself up for it, just accept you're not feeling it and trust that with time it'll come back. With diamond painting in particular, I find the burnout starts to creep in when I'm either dealing with poor quality kits (I can't stand sorting through a ton of trash drills) or working with a lot of browns (3371 will be the death of me). I've basically always got a kit with more colours in it that I alternate working on with the brown kits, because while I know I'll love the finished result, it can be tough to get there!

Not enjoying a kit when I’m working on it is exactly why I’ve temporarily kitted down both “Comfortably Numb” and “Day Fishing at the Mill” (both from DAC). Both frustrated me - Comfortably Numb had horrendous gapping (to my standards) and Day Fishing at the Mill is a pretty large landscape I’m planning on gifting someone for Christmas and the sheer amount of confetti and my general desire for landscapes is limited, so I had to take a break. Instead I’m working on some small paintings and kitted up “Cosmic Trip” because it’s one I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

For me sometimes it’s square vs round… I like the image of the kit and its square drills. When I work on a square kit I usually have a snack size round to switch out…. I’m finding more and more kits are square kits so I have to really think about purchasing or adding to a wish list…. I do agree with FOMO I fell into trap when I first started mostly due to the “limited run” of the kit and then the cost of buying from a de-stash (increased prices but loss of warranty etc), now I’m struggling with de-stashing because of the time to pack and ship …

I’m just a little over a year into my diamond painting experience. But I have found that events stress me out. And things that have a lot of blue are not my jam - so no seascapes for me. Also, doing a kit I’m not interested in, but I know someone else will love it can be a challenge. I recently did a 20x20 inch painting for a family member that I would never choose for myself. In a million years. I had to mentally block out the subject and concentrate on one section at a time and it was still like pulling teeth to get thru it. It felt like months.

I wish burnout in DPing was an issue for me. I haven't DPed in almost a month, and I really want to get back to it, but between my job, and then I was on vacation visiting friends up north (Enjoyed spending time with them, but there was actually a lot of physical work going on there that had to be done). I still have three more nights of work before I'm off and I'm looking forward to getting back to this WIP I started (plus the day that my mom and I are going to go do Disney next week - we're passholders in Florida).

I started diamond painting in 2018. I have learned burnout for everyone has different triggers. I do switch different crafts at times which I have done my whole life. It could be an ADHD thing or just a boredom, always looking to change things up. I prefer darker colors and attracted to certain patterns; however, there are paintings with lighter colors and designs no one would think I would love and I have to get them. I do have a rule to not make snap decisions. If you love it today, tomorrow and next week then you are in love.

I have not experience burnout for diamond painting but it might be because I take it easy and work at a low pace, last year I only finish 8 kits and the largest was a 42cm by 42cm. I also do macrame, embroidery and scrapbooking, so I just switch hobbies when I feel like it and enjoy them all.

To me, it’s a hobby and something I do for fun, there’s no shame in taking a break for even a year! The kits will be there when you come back fresh and ready!

😂 I barely started yesterday and have not completed the Grogu that my son gifted me and I’m already feeling the “I want to buy all the things” and my attention being blah I’m so over this 😂 ADHD and hyper focus are a great and bad thing. Started yesterday and I’ve been binge watching videos and already searched bigger products. Im just concerned of the period when the interest is gone and I’m looking at an unfinished project for an uncertain period of time. Any tips?

Hi Katie, good morning from Los Angeles County. Thank you for the five suggestions. I will try to us them. I am a person who seeks constant approval. When I get approval, then I am cheered up and will return to Diamond Painting. I am still learning to ignore my friends who think Diamond painting is a children's hobby. With Golden Cocker Spaniel I have divided the canvas on the bottom into 12 10x10cms squares. Much easier for me to work on. Now to work on my caregiver to let me purchase a real Cocker Spaniel puppy. I have a 10 year old Doxle ( Dachshund Beagle mix). He needs a friend. I like the suggestions of stop working on a large one and working on a small one. I would, but my caregiver would yell at me at the top of her lungs on why I haven't finished the large one. May the fourth be with you!

I have ADD so I find it hard to stick to one craft so it’s like a circle of three different crafts going in and out of obsession with them

Another thing I've found helpful is I don't even use pens/wax anymore unless I get a kit smaller than 70x40cm! I use tweezers cause for me it goes faster, I can be more exact with placement and I don't have glue in between the beads. I'm totally a round person btw cause every square kit I've had never lines up and I get frustrated so I throw them away and waste $ which is hard to come by with 3 cats and a 17 yr old son to take care of

This is why I switch between gaming and diamond painting. Also if a kit isn't getting me excited I'll put it aside for a while.

Sometimes it helps to work on “off canvas” projects like ornaments, coasters, keychains, or even special drill canvases. I know these are not offered thru the premium Diamond painting shops but not everything has to be by a licensed artist. Temu is a great place to purchase “budget” projects while having a great variety. While I have purchased from premium shops, they have a tendency of offering mostly square canvases, I can not even begin to tell you how much I hate doing squares.

Slow down. It's not a race. You dont have to finish as many paintings as possible in the shortest amount of time. Just take your time and enjoy 😻😻😻

My problem is is that I don't have the room to work on multiple kits as once...I am confined to one at a time otherwise my craft room looks like a hoarders paradise. This craft has made me into a shopping addict and not in a good way. I can't keep on every couple of years buying new craft things when I don't have the room. Some people kinda laugh when I say "Oh I have a problem" when I am actually serious and scared of the problem. My family said it was better when I was doing digital art and writing because I could keep myself organized when with crafts like traditional art or a craft like diamond painting. So I'm at a place where I'm at a fork in the road on do I keep going since I spent so much money on this or do I just toss since I have no boxes or packaging from the kits to make it worth trying to destash.

I find that I can get burnt out when there are not a lot of things to 'discover' in a painting. Too much of the same thing bothers me.
