Thank you for the tips. I like the complete look of square drills, but didn't like the uneven placements. I switched to round drills for awhile and found them easier. I'm back to square drills and a larger canvas. It's been interesting. I'll be looking for more tutorials by you.

I love the fact that they offer both square and round so there's something for everyone's preference! And I think switching back and forth between them (like you're doing) is a fun way to switch it up! Let me know what you think of squares with your second go-round!

I still pick up my tweezers and love the checkerboard method. Do you multi-place at all?
@DiamondDelight
@DiamondDelight 3 жыл бұрын
I tend to single-place most of my diamond paintings, but I'll use a small multi-placer every now and then! Most of my paintings thus far have been pretty confetti-heavy, without much color blocking, so that may be part of it. The one I'm currently working on will have some bigger color-blocking sections so I made use multi-placers more on this one! Do you use multi-placers?

I bought Diamond Art Club-Sierra River Falls ( Square Drills) All of the drills are to small for the Square space and leaving large gaps between each one. Thank u. My first square was a nightmare. Drills popping out and so crooked. I was embarrassed to let anyone see it. It was so frustrating. I've been sticking to rounds. But another diamond painter told me that since my confidence is better now and my rounds are all nice and straight, then I should try a small square one. I have a stash of about 20 paintings and there's a few squares in it. I bought them just because I loved the image so I'll give it a try. I love the way you shake that tray! I have to watch that again! Are you using a different kind of tweezers than the ones you normally get in the kits?

I just started diamond painting and found your video very helpful. I now want a nice pair of flat-edged tweezers to help. What I would like to know is what is on the left-hand edge of your picture (not the taped plastic card stock)? When you placed your drills against the leftmost edge at first, it looks as though there is a white card frame there. Is it? Thank you.
@DiamondDelight
@DiamondDelight 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pamela! Yes the tweezers are a game-changer! I don't think I place anything on the left besides the taped plastic card. There is a white border around the sticky part of the canvas...maybe that is what you are seeing? If you can provide me with a time in the video where you see it, maybe I can further clarify!

@1:43 minutes, that you're talking about Discarding The Bad Square Drills... You can take an Xacto Knife and Gently Smoothing It Out by Discarding Any Extra Resin Sticking Out by Gently Shaving It little by little until it becomes a nice Square. If there's one's that have an Extra Resin Sticking Out and the rest is Square just cut it off Gently 😍 I finished your tutorial and I have to say IT WAS ABSOLUTELY SUPERB 👍👏👏👏 This is the BEST TUTORIAL I have ever seen on Getting Perfectly Square Straight Drills 😍 Thank you very very much. I have tried cutting off the excess before but didn't have too much luck with it. 😕 So I found it quicker to just put the trash drills aside. Great tips! I’m working on the Parthenon Greece diamond painting. It’s squares. Do you find that it’s twice the amount of work? If I make one wrong live it bounce on the tray they all get rearranged and I start from the beginning. I noticed DAC is starting to have too many square paintings and I don’t like this.
@DiamondDelight
@DiamondDelight 21 күн бұрын
Hi! I don’t personally feel like squares are more work. But technically speaking, more square drills fit in a square inch than round drills. So for the same sized painting you will technically place more drills in a square DP.

It really makes a lot of sense to invest in a good quality kit. Quality kits contain very few rubbish diamonds. Cheap kits usually contain poor quality diamonds with lots of second-grade diamonds & we don't usually find this out until after opening it. A few DP tips I will share with you to have a more relaxing DP experience: - instead of a lightpad, I use a headlamp with rechargeable batteries; - I use a tilt table to help prevent neck, shoulder & back pain; - Sit on an ergonomic office chair on castors when working on large canvas so you can quickly move from one end of the canvas to the other without getting out of your chair; - take a break often to give your eyes a rest. Stretching arms helps with blood circulation; - play your favourite tunes & enjoy getting lost in your DP world! 😁

I have to say this has been the most helpful video I’ve come across for using tweezers. I was having trouble setting drills in corners with the tweezers and your method is so helpful. I also love, love, love the idea of using the light pad to remove the bad drills. Pure genius. It’s so painful trying to remove them as you go, and it’s been a challenge not having the right lighting.

If you weed out the uneven drills, and then need to use them at the end, wouldn't that create an area of the painting with doest look as nice because it has a greater concentration of uneven beads?
@DiamondDelight
@DiamondDelight 2 жыл бұрын
That's a very good point actually! I could see that happening if you used a lot of them for a color block area so I would avoid that! In the past, it's usually just been a couple that I've needed to use. I also tend to do paintings with a lot more confetti so it would be less noticeable, but I think if you were to have a large number of color block missing at the end, it would probably be better to buy more drills/request replacements from the company.

I'm hopefully going to start trying this, and I really appreciate seeing this tutorial. I saw one on rounded drills, and I didn't like the way that painting was looking. What a difference with these square ones. This to me really pops out the picture. The rounded ones almost seemed to make the paintings look cheap. So, I've already learned to do square ones versus rounded. It also looks tedious, but then again, I can see how this helps with anxiety where one would really focus. I'm going to bookmark your site so I have a good reference to go back to. Your voice is also calming and the talking is a nice speed, pretty easy to follow along.

I'm so impressed that you take the time to explain how and why you do things a certain way. Plus, I find myself becoming short of patience when searching through tons of videos. So pardon me if I come across as being brutally blunt. I think it's got to do something with me being a what I like to call a " seasoned person. Yes, I just hit the big 60. Anyway, my point is I find that so many KZbin videos have a tone that seem to make me want to rush though them or completely moving on to the next one. But I find your's to be very soothing, not to mention extremely informative. Yes, I did hit the "like" and "subscribe" buttons. HELP! lol...I'm new to diamond painting and am learning the pit falls...I would like to know, I noticed a new square diamond painting I ordered, some of the square drills have a square on top and some a diamond...normal? cheap kit? I'm trying to use just the ones with the diamond shape cause they sparkle more, but the drills with a square ontop outnumber them. I don't know f I'll have enough to complete it =(
@DiamondDelight
@DiamondDelight 3 жыл бұрын
Not to worry, they're supposed to be like that! There are 2 different designs on purpose. The thought it that each design catches the light at different angles, so overall it will make your painting more sparkly from all angles. Don't worry about how you place them, just place randomly and it will look great!

Yes, I have the same problem. I think it is because I do not place all of the squares perfectly straight so they push eachother up. When finished, I am going to roll over the peice with a rolling pin. I hope when I seal and frame it, the glass will keep them all in place.

@@aliciascruffies9817 add mod podge to it! it’ll keep them all together but i heard that it could be a printing issue. i’m not sure how to solve it lol. i’ve been staying up late because i’m not sure if i use good beads but i think it’s just the painting itself. try to space them out if you can, use good beads, or glue them to the canvas. im going shopping for these things tomorrow so hopefully all goes well!

Hello! This is a tricky one that a lot of diamond painters have had the misfortune of dealing with. Unfortunately, many times it is the canvas/drills themselves. Sometimes the size of the drills does not perfectly match the size of the canvas. It is an error on the side of the manufacturer and can be very hard to deal with. I have heard of people placing the drills, trying to press them down flat with a roller, and glueing/sealing them in place, but it is a PAIN! I would reach out to the company and let them know that you're having an issue with "popping drills". This can also happen when your drill have extra tabs on them. If you hold a light behind your tray when the drills are all lined up, you can see if some of them are not perfect squares. They may have extra tabs on them that are preventing them from sitting evenly. I try to remove these faulty drills and only use even square ones. Some people have said they cut the tabs off with an exacto knife, but I found this to be pretty difficult as well. I'm sorry that you're having this issue. It's not fun and can be very frustrating! Certain companies have better quality than others, so search the web/youtube for reviews of companies before buying if you're ever worried about the quality

Im doing my 1st square diamond & ive just started & going through videos to see if just my tapestry that my beards have quite a bit of space between each diamond ? Its a solid color outer boundary ... Its the " i believe in Angels because i have some in heaven" im wondering if i should start where the lettering is to see if its just how the boundary is ... Or if there is that much space & also kinda thinking how overall look will be? Arg is it just me? Or my tapestry print ? It has the solid color on canvas with a light color of The letter to correspond to diamond beads

Hello, there is some variation in spacing among different brands. Some purposely have more space in between the squares so that the diamonds aren't too cramped. When there's not enough space, you can see "popping" where the drills are displaced off the canvas. I personally am not a fan of canvases that have a lot of gapping, but it's better than the alternative. Try out a few different brands and you might learn which ones have the spacing that you like!

Thanks for all your tips and tricks which work equally well on round drills as well!!! Love and use them all especially the checkerboard when I can. I am working on my 6th canvas (round drills) and for the first time I see gaps between the drills, I can actually see part of the number! Any ideas on what I am doing wrong or remedy this! Great idea to check for bad drills before starting....I usually sort as I go along. As usual I am late to the party - I just saw and bought my first canvas at the dollar store last year!!! I have yet to see square drills!!!

Thank you! If you didn’t have the gapping problem with your previous 5 kits, then it’s probably an issue with the kit rather than something you’re doing wrong. Sometimes the drills are the wrong size for the canvas

Start with a small diamond painting (30 x 40 cm or smaller) and just take the pressure off and let yourself get the hang of it! I started with round drills, but you can start with either depending on your preference! Once you start trying it out, you'll get the hang of it!
