Wow amazing work! Good for you :) I also want to get into the mural business I've done small art and portraits but I feel murals calling me :) I live in Canada what would you suggest is a good paint for indoor murals and paint brand for outdoor? Thanks so much...keep living the dream!

Very good vid and this coming from an experience muralist. One other little trick is to research new businesses that are in the processes of build out and opening soon in your city or nearest biggest city and email or just stop by. I have hit up many breweries, cannabis dispensaries, tech companies and fashion stores who generally do have a sizeable budget to put towards a new mural before they open. Number one thing is to have great art to show! So make art all the time and hone your craft!

Lol one of the few industries where this isn’t an indicator of skill level or quality, merely a tool of the trade. Murals though, ya gotta be sober bc scaffolding is a death trap (and if you’re in a public place _everyone_ will want to talk to you: “hey… you paintin a mural?” and other prescient queries) ((also, I’ve met the purveyors of most of my next murals while painting my previous murals))

I'm never going to be a muralist (don't possess the talent), but I appreciate so much that you put such a detailed and informative how-to video online for those that possess the talent and drive enough to create these wondrous works of art around the world. I live in a fairly small capital city (Lincoln, NE), and any murals here are small and rare, but when I do see them they take my breath away. I always stop to gaze at their bold, larger than life beauty, and it's a level of attention the small works of art in museums have never been able to hold over me.

I just wanna say I really appreciate you being so open and helpful to new/struggling artists. I'm still young at 18 but growing up it was common place to contact an artist for help and tips or just general questions on where they got supplies and so many times they'd ignore you or turn you away under the excuse that they don't share their secrets. As a kid it was kinda disheartening. It's nice to get some true, well intentioned advice 💟

I think the easiest is to actually get your first job for a mural. I always dreamed on painting murals, then I won a design competition for a mural and that got me into more jobs! that first person who believed in me was the first stone, but it gave me also the backup for saying "hey I know how to do this and now I can offer something that fits your needs" also the "get good advise", no one is gonna hire you for that kind of big job if your designs aren't good.

Dudey, a video on how to start with nothing in a small town, I've kinda been doing murals since high school, but being the crazy unstable artist I am, always getting creative block with the demands of the corporate world etc and economy in my country, I've amount to like 3 Murals since my high school, now 26, the first one got discarded, the second one didn't get documented as well and the 3rd one happened by chance, just being in the right place at the time... With the coolest, most chill people who had that trust and open mindedness when it comes to art....and expressiveness...

Thanks for the advice. I would say cities are good for some people but not all. The city I live is flooded with people wanting to do murals and some people with big reputations, which means many places in the city expect you to work for free if you are not one of them (not even covering the cost of paint). If you find the right people/place in smaller towns a lot of them are keen to get a mural that makes them stand out as part of the "youth" or "alternative" culture and there isn't a reverse bidding war going on for who will do it cheapest.
