This is a GREAT video Victoria. Well done. I coach several youth teams here in the Midwest. Definitely going to have them start watching some of these videos starting with this one. The MINDSET of the passer is so key. We get so focused on technique but often times forget the mindset you need to make the pass, but more importantly make a better pass the next time. Well done.

i always do the mental one bahaha. whenever we’re in a game i’ll talk to the girls and i’ll be like (if i shank a serve or a hit: “i’ll get it next time, okay?”) (if i pass too close to the net for the setter to reach: “sorry, i’ll get it to you next time.”) i never say “i’m sorry that wasn’t a good pass” or “i’m being so bad today ignore me” i’ll always make sure i’m reliable enough and reassure them that i can do it and i’ll get the ball up. sometimes i’ll just say to one of the girls (if needed) “hey, it’s okay. i’m right behind you.” or things like “don’t worry. someone will always be there to pick up the ball. it’s okay.” and if someone on my team shanks a ball or misses a serve i’ll just say “it’s okay. you’ll get it next time” or “you’ll get this one.”. if i make a mistake i’ll just be like “i’ll do better.” i dont put myself down by saying “that was so bad how did i mess up”

I had a game yesterday ,and midway through the game i was stressing out alot becus i felt like my sets were horrible and i kinda thought it was my fault that the spike was getting in the net. I try to remind myself next point and all that but the stress really got to me ,and i later had to switch with another one of my player for setting. I tried not to cry but failed ;since i thought before i was setter , i was useless(on the team) until i became a setter, so switching positions kinda was huge for me. I back into the game and working on that postitive mindset. And whenever i need a positive mindset reminder i was think of Victoria so thank you And anyone who kinda like me and feels like it's their fault that the play wasn't good, just think of the next point and note your mistakes mentally

Trust me when I say these tips do work. 2 tips I’ve been using recently and are extremely helpful are shaking it off when you make a mistake and taking mental notes. I think staying positive at all times even when you or your teammates make mistakes is a life changer. Instead of being upset, hype yourself up and be determined to learn off of your mistake. Now when you are taking mental notes you are really observing the other team and how they play. This comes really handy when you want to make good passes for your setter. When you remember how the person serves your can adjust yourself in order to make a good pass for your setter. I 100% want more videos like this because they are extremely helpful. So glad I watched this and learned more tips that I will be using. Ok now this is the part where I start being cheesy... As a ds who literally always talks to herself when I play this was so helpful. Im one of the older girls on my club team and its really late in the club season so my self confidence has really been low especially playing with girls who are better and have played longer than me. This was really helpful for me to not put so much pressure on myself and be more consistent and smart about how I play.
@galaxy_mosaic35872 жыл бұрын
I think that point about the growth mindset is pretty big. sometimes I get multiple aces in a single game. that is not fun. but I do keep a journal and maybe after the game or going to sleep, I will reflect on who aced me, what was their tendency, and how I need to respond better the next time we play. also that last tip was really helpful as well. thank you. I actually come from beach volleyball but whenever I play with seasoned indoors players, their technique is so clean that I think I can benefit from this. the point about passing a serve high and off the net is really similar to beach. I was thinking too much about targeting the setter too precisely and their contact point for the set and so not getting the ball actually high enough.

I was wondering if you could do a video about how to be a loud and aggressive libero. I am a libero myself but i feel like I never have enough things to say. For example our team will be serving and I’ll call out if sets up or back and then “watch the over pass” “watch setter dump” “outside hits line” and so on but I just feel like it’s so repeated because I saw that ALL THE TIME. And I just need more advice on the right things to say and to be over all a louder libero because I know that’s what most schools are looking in

Love all your advice. I find number five very interesting because I’ve always been told “aim big and you’ll miss big, aim small and you’ll miss small”. Just different coaching I guess!

I can relate to your surprise. During my decades of playing, I've received the tip you mention, too, and found it generally valid. It makes sense that passing is a rare exception to it, though, because of the high cost of overpassing even by a little. When it comes to passing close to the net, in other words, even a small miss instantly becomes huge...

i recently changed volleyball clubs and i went from being a middle hitter and always libero’d off in the back, to being an outside pass hitter and its been such a hard transition omg but this is super helpful 💕

As a setter myself I can really say that tip number 5 is so important. For as setter is it mostly easier to have a high aim rather than a perfect position wise one that is not high at all. Great video!🥰

Great advice for the mental side. These ideas transcend the game, big time. Look forward to how you teach the growth mindset. Super great content, Victoria!

Sometimes I really let my mental side get to me, and this really helps with that. I have a goal of making varsity volleyball my freshman year, and back row is my strongest skill. Thanks for the mental notes because they are my number 1 competition

@@victoriagarrickbrowne need one of these for setters and setter strategies! (less of how to set perfectly, but more of what options can we do with an overpass for example)

Can you do a video about diving? I played varsity as a freshman this year and I’d like to say I’m pretty good at diving but I’m not intentional about it I just go for the ball. I really want to learn about how to be intentional when diving if needed and to protect my body. I’ve played libero on the top team at my club for 3 years in a row out of my 5 total. I really want to get better and be able to play D1 in college. These videos help so much! Thanks you😘😘

This is my 1st year of volleyball! I’ve only been in my home gym 8 times and coach told me today if they need a libero if I get a little better at passing I might be it I’m terrified but hope I get it
