Growing out your hair is a mental lesson. Mostly for those in school, but don't let the pressure determine your hairstyle. I am in school and my hair has been in the process of becoming long through my entire year as a 14 year old, but what others thought wasn't a big problem for me. Don't take in when people talk shit about your hair. I support everyone of you.

Mine own hair growth progress and success, I myself adhered to this daily regimen: Take early morning sunshine every day for vitamin D. Eat vegetables of various colors. Applying paraben-free and fragrance free shampoo and massaging two times per week with hair oil by litttleextra's cooconion. Imp. to keep in mind that hair growth is influenced by overall health as well as circulation and nutrition.

One tip for everyone. When you're starting to grow your hair, have it already a bit longer on the top than sides. I started to grow mine from almost bald, and the awkward phase was about 4 times longer than normally, because the hair was awkwardly long equally from everywhere.

Glad I found this video now that I’ve been growing my hair out for the past 6-9 months and am at the end of the awkward stage 😂 I hit the timing all wrong too. Have been wearing a hat the whole time and hit awkward stage right during spring/summer. My hair on top and sides are right at 6” but I trimmed the back of my hair recently to avoid the mullet look so it’s about 4”. Maybe I should have left it so I can tie it up sooner... just have to wait to grow it out more. Planning to start wearing it without a hat though, just tying up top and sides

Yes, I definitely used the Beanie hat. Problem was though, I started growing in November 2020 so my awkward phase hit in about summer! It does get a whole lot easier once you can grab a bit of hair through a band to make a small ponytail. I could do that by October and it is a lifesaver when you feel your hair is too messy, in the morning for example, or you can't be bothered styling it. Stick with it guys, it is worth it!

Don't expect to have a full bun in 12 months. I'm at about a year now. I still need a good 3 months until all the sides are able to be properly tied in at the back. 6-8 months to really have it were i want it. So ye, 18 months imo is where things start to pick up

I had my hair at about 5 inches before I cut it. But I would say the main reason why I gave up was because I didn't know what style I wanted or where to go with it, I just knew I wanted to grow it out. I'm currently back at 4 inches on top and starting my journey once again while I still have covid and the winter time to use this great advice! Thank you for the tips and encouraging me to try again.

Your images in the bonus section is my goal. They are the polar opposite of awkward. Looks many orders of magnitude much more stylish healthy than the longer frizzy dry hair look throughout most of this video. Reminds me of Pierce Brosnan in the 80s. But you do you if thats your thing.

My hair is halfway between thin and thick, and it tended to start frizzing up on me harder than I've ever had it when I was in my awkward phase last year in the Summer. I used blumann's cloud oil, enough to tame it but not overly using it, to properly get that thick hair look and lay that I really needed. I think your tips are great, just throwing that in for those of us who look ridiculous when not wearing a hat in the awkward phase. As of now, I'm two years in and doing more of a Geralt half up ponytail. Never happier with my hair!

Ignore my bald avatar. I started growing my hair out from very short starting in November of '18. Its shoulder length now. The awkward phase is totally worth it later. Beanies and headbands can be your best friends during this time period. I recommend investing in a good quality sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Maybe a wooden comb as well. The time to start growing probably varies by region. I live in NW Pennsylvania and beanie season runs from beginning of October to End of May generally. 8 months. That strategy wouldn't work down south in Miami where I used to live. I also grew a long beard after my last short haircut, like 10" just because I wanted to see what it looked like and what I had to work with. Long goatee turns out, not really thick enough to braid. Turns out a short well kept beard looks better on me. It was a fun experiment.
