Amen to this brother! I have always believed that being a DJ is one of the most amazing ways to SERVE people. So many DJs make it about them, instead of putting the focus on the Bride, Groom and their families.

Men this is a million dollar vlog, I wish to have that advices 4 years ago when I just started, now after this 4 yars of experience, I'm absolutely agree with any point of your advices. The most important in that is Charm or Charisma, its a think that you hove or not, are you boring inside of you or happy and positive, people feel this even if we don't see that, they feel that and absorb your energy, so you must deliver only positive or nothing

Awesome advice Barr, always helpful! One thing to add in reference to introduction music - If DJ's allow their Bride & Groom to pick their introduction song themselves, try to talk them in to an instrumental version, so that way you don't have vocals on top of vocals. If this doesn't work, use hot ques to trigger chorus after you introduce them! This goes for bridal party as well!

I think I'm a natural because your video is my first actual lesson (good lesson) but I find myself already applying a couple of these principles so I guess I have a future doing this. Tip to new or aspiring hosts, before you start your journey you have to first LOVE PEOPLE & ENJOY MAKING THEM HAPPY

Thank you for being so transparent with your self-esteem. There's no way I would ever think you don't have self-esteem or self confidence listening to you DJ or MC, or even make these videos. Fake it 'til you make it, I guess! haha! I have a good self esteem and I have confidence, but not when it comes to talking in front of a crowd of people I'm djing for. I can't seem to lose the timidness of just speaking to the crowd. I guess I just need to get used to doing it. I'll try these tips. Maybe I'm psyching myself out thinking I NEED to say something important, funny, or long winded. Now I know I don't HAVE to! Thank you!

again solid advice. When I started way back when , I worked a hall called the La Fontain Bleue in MD ... they did all there own MCing but all the events we did there , they had us do them. It's just better being said by who is DJing the event. Yea agree when I first started I was so scared, you get over that quickly as time goes on. Always make your own " twist " to things and agree again never drag things out , people want to party not hear you talk or tell jokes. Great job Barr !

If there is any script to be had, I would say someone who has a hard time being humble and not having strong communication skill and presence is a person who would benefit from writing a script to practice privately until they memorize a certain way of being a host. I did it a lot due to my drama club days in high school, I practiced a lot! It really help me cement a presence that I've spent 15 plus years building. So I'd say go for the script if its really needed. Thanks for the great video!

No right or wrong way to do this. I always use a script, I memorize and practice it. I also time myself so I am not speaking too fast. Maybe this comes naturally to some, but for most people I think winging it is not a good idea. Also I always introduce myself, I think this is a normal social practice, if a speaker started talking and did not introduce themselves it would feel strange. Also music should be instrumental, talking over singing makes it difficult to understand since all the vocals are in the same frequency.
@LoudMime5 жыл бұрын
James Ryan i agree, the video seemed cocky talking about cocky MCs lol, hes generalizing crowds/group of people
@MILEHIGH_ANIME_LLC4 жыл бұрын
Or u can turn ur music down & ur mic up so you can be heard overall no matter where you're cue dropping points are. Your mic volume should be louder than the music during intros though I would think.

Great Video Barr! You ACED that bridal party intro! It's a Great feeling when we know we did a great job on MCing the intro! I do my intros very similiar to what you do, but I hype the crowd just a bit differently. I get the bride's family and friends to make a lot of noise, get napkins in the air too, and then I have the groom's family and friends do the same, then I have everyone together get super loud! ...Then I say "Alright, we are exited, let's get this bridal party in the room..." and start to introduce parents, etc. It's a good idea to have someone playing the music so you as the MC can be out on the floor. I don't do that, but if I could find someone trust worthy to work with me, I would have no problem paying $80 to $100 for someone to show up and help me with that. I'm a one man show when I do weddings.

How do you go from one segment to the other in a wedding reception? How do you gather people back to prepare for cake cutting, wine toss, flower/garter toss, & how do you open up the dance floor & last call for alcohol & how do you announce the last song & end the party? Thank you!

This is helpful but with my company I am the MC and DJ so unfortunately I have to be behind the setup to play the right music and saying names of the bridal party.
