I have autism and I find a lot of comfort in a weighted blanket. You can get them in lots of sizes and weights. It's very soothing! If there is trouble with physical contact, but they are having issues, the weighted blanket can be used similar to a hug; releasing endorphins, without the person to person contact.

My friend uses a gray sound machine when she puts him to bed. We put a gate up at his door to keep him in his room. He is 4 years old and tends to wander after everyone else is sleeping. We do the brush your teeth and pj routine. The sound machine is a lifesaver!

I know this was 4 years ago. But my younger sister (aged 4) has autism and she refuses to sleep. She’ll scream and cry in her room, then open the door. My mom tries to get her back in her room but she’ll just kick and scream until my mom gives up and sleeps in the living room with her. (Takes a while for her to sleep there) . At my dads house she sleeps just fine but with my mom she won’t sleep. When my stepdad is home she’ll sleep, but not with my mom. I’m 13 what do i do?

Sleep hygiene is beneficial to all kids. It's not the root cause for people with autism. Maybe if you explained medically why autistic kids struggle with sleep it would give parents a better understanding of whats happening.

My son's Dr recommended Melatonin to help with sleep. I have tried everything listed in your video and he still winds up in my bed. I was concerned about adding more meds to the ones he is already on.
@Intothespectrumvideos
@Intothespectrumvideos 7 жыл бұрын
I always suggest seeking out medical opinions. I do not know about the medication side of this. They would know if it is okay to take those specific medications. I do know that many of my clients are taking Melatonin and that does seem to help from what the parents tell me!

@@ermericcarolissen694 I use melatonin (I'm 14 so still a child) and even when I skip a day, because I take it every second day, I'm still falling asleep almost instantly because it's gotten me into a decent (not really decent but still a working) schedule.

I wouldn't say these are things you need to be a parent to do. You can easily make a bedtime schedule (I dont want to assume but I do know a lot of autistic people , including myself, like going along with some kind of schedule) you most likely, depending how old you are, sleep in your own bed. You can also quite easily find a soothing object as that can be anything you like and feel comfortable with. And unless you have reasons like needing the toilet you can easily stay in bed, and if you do find this difficult, try to slowly work your way into staying in bed all night using tactics you can find in other places on the internet Just realised I missed 3, but just like she said, basically just try to notice the times you start getting tired and then go to bed then, then move the time slowly once you are in the rhythm so can move to a more suitable time for sleeping so it can work with waking up and getting the right amount of sleep
