I've been back in the woodworking hobby for almost a year now and I can see there are '2 camps,' the 'T-track' and the 'dog-hole', when it comes to having 'multiple-mechanical-hands'(clamps) to hold down your work. This is brought me to the conclusion that I can very easily spend $50,000 in the shop and never build a single thing, IF I allowed myself to buy every little trinket that I like, but don't need. That's my problem, not a problem with the channel. That being said, I think I'm 'T-Track' because of it's versatility, and it keeps sawdust out better. If you have a 'dog-hole' bench, you may as well not have any drawers in it, or you have give up some real estate directly under the work surface.

Love the design on the Massca hold down, shown side by side with the "blue one" (I have those, I like them, but they do have their limitations due to design). The Sawset looks intriguing as well. Which brings me to my two cents worth on what seems to have some guys bunched up: Your content. For me, I look to your channel, and James Hamilton over at StumpyNubs, and a few others to show me some of these less expensive gadgets that might make my life easier and the work flow easier. I'm a pro. I do this stuff for a living as a trim carpenter/maker/fixer/woodworker. I don't have time to search the internet for the "gadgets" and, regrettably, shelf space being at a premium at the "blue store" and others I won't see these gadgets because they don't carry them. When I add a tool to my arsenal, it has to be something that will pay for itself, won't take up valuable space, with a shallow learning curve. Your content helps me with that decision making process. Reason being, (no offense intended) you're "just a guy" who decided to pick up woodworking and I've watched you grow in your ability, and tool acquisition. I also trust your word when you say how well something did, or did not, work for you. Pay your bills, man, with whatever content makes sense. There are plenty of build heavy channels out there. Besides, in all the time I've been doing what I do, I learn by doing, not by watching someone else do.

Wouldn't it be better to set the mitre saw directly from the t-bevel? Doing so would eliminate inaccuracies reading the angle and transferring it to the saw. It would also bypass any errors in the saw's protractor and fence alignment.
@thetoolman33552 жыл бұрын
Hey Bob, For double miters, the T Bevel alone is not capable for setting the miter saw. And you are right, T bevel directly to the saw for a single bevel is an option. I own a Sawset Pro. No rounding up or down. Work with the fraction of a degree for a perfect fit.
@502deth2 жыл бұрын
in addition to the tool mans point, it aint that easy. if the bevel is not perfectly parallel to the bed, your off, if the blade of the bevel hits one of teh carbide teeth, your off. if you press the bevel too hard into the fence, it moves and youre off. imo, setting the miter saw with a t-bevel is the worst. ill transfer the t bevel to scrap paper and measure it with a protractor before i try to use it on a saw.

I absolutely love the Jorgensen ratcheting gear clamps that they sell at Lowe's speaking of which I need to go see if they make any size other than these 8 inch and whatever other size I have actually I think 8 inch and 6 in. These things are amazing they have such a strong grip on anything it's a little finicky to get set quickly at first but you quickly learn how to use it it's very intuitive. They're about 15 $20 a piece I believe but as far as clamping strength goes and being quick about it man they just they are nice I'd rather use one of those than one of the super heavy duty quick grips

I find the mesh sanding discs (both 3m and Diablo) generally don’t do well with any kind of rough corners but excel at flat surfaces. I use them for any flat boards, but will switch to some regular Diablo paper for rough pieces so I don’t run through the mesh ones. They last a lot longer on flat areas though and the dust collection seems better in my experience as well.

Howdy Mr. 731... It's been awhile. I've been wayyy busy. Finally finished Pops' table. Been working on my shop. Lost my wallet and everything in it (obviously), had to kill all cards. Was and is a big mess. To all the others talking about Mr. 731 not doing any build videos... If I'm not mistaken, he has said in multiple videos and through his LIVE show on Tuesdays that his "goal" of his channel was to be a "Content" provider, not a "Build" channel as he doesn't have much time these days to be out in the shop building a table etc. Now, I can honestly say, I miss the build videos as well, but this is the direction he chose to go, so let's all respect his decision. His content videos have value in that he does the leg work for you. I've myself have saved HUNDREDS of dollars from his Content videos in that he's found deals on tools I needed and saved me the hassle of searching myself, which is kinda the point.

Question for Special Forces tribute flag: Great video brother, since there seem to be many craftsman in the comments and I really like the thin blue line and American flag in the background,, of one of your older videos i came across,, my best friend died a little over a year ago..after he was kicked outta the ODA for a drug problem he developed. Then he unfortunately overdosed. He was the finest Green Beret I've ever known. And dealing with the Cartels and the Taliban require levels of violence and the loss of brothers which thank goodness most people will never know the hurt and mental health problems that come with direct action missions. I was wondering where I could find someone to do a wooden custom tribute flag, with the Green Beret insignia, 7th Special Forces Group and ODA # his name etc, to put up on my wall, he should never be forgotten and tbh if it doesn't have anything to do with the military then I have no real clue. If you want something destroyed then I'm your man, if it's about making something decent I'm at a loss. Can anyone in the comments reply and give me an idea. He was my best friend and my brother, I wanna make sure my grand kids know who he was and what he gave for this country. Thanks to anyone for any ideas.

Thank you. I love making projects and doing build videos. I still do a couple of those per month. They do however take significantly more time to produce. For instance, my miter station build video that released about two weeks ago. It took me about 4 days to build that project, while also filming it at the same time. Then it took me nearly 40 hours to edit the video. So essentially about two weeks worth of work for 1 video. If that video drew a million views, I could have continued to do that, at that pace. Unfortunately build/project videos are some of the least viewed videos on my channel compared to the others. I also enjoy tools and finding new and unique ones. 99% of the tools I review in these videos, I find and purchase. Very few are given to me or sponsored by companies. I hope that gives you some insight into why I make the type of content I do. This is my full-time job so I have to make videos that the majority watches. I still make the build videos because I love building but only at about 2 per month.
