Just sold some of my projects to a couple in my neighborhood, and they came back and gave me a really nice picture frame maker and dovetail jointer. They said it was in their basement when they moved in. I looked it up and it is over 800 bucks for the pair. I have no idea how to use them yet but I'm so excited about it and thankful for such nice people. I hope it means they really like my work

I bought the Bridge City "Kerf-maker", used it once or twice, then left it in the drawer forever. Too many moving parts and I had to re-learn how to use it each time. My old way to set up dados (using blade shims) was faster and more accurate. I finally donated it to the local charity thrift shop. This multi-tool seems like it's in the same category.

Hey, those pull saws have two sides, but they're not necessarily called a "rough" or a fine" side. The "rough" side is for ripping, the "fine" side is for crosscuts.

I'm pretty sure that's a Japanese Pull Saw, and NOT a flush trim saw. Japanese Pull Saws do have a set to their teeth, which is why you have to put the tape down to prevent marring your project. A flush trim saw has no set to the teeth, and you don't need the tape.

To be fair forster bits really aren't meant for through drilling. Not saying they won't, but they are made to drill a hole with a flat bottom. Candle holders towel racks......

The UG-1 is an odd duck. I think the construction on the Universal Gauge is good, but I don't get use out of it. A major problem is the size and shape. It's not pocket size and it it's square so it ends up coming on and off the wall like a triangle or larger square. Having many different features isn't as important when I can't carry it on me at all times. Once I get back to the wall, I'm going to choose the tool that does the job best and that's going to be a different tool most of the time. Many of the non-depth measuring and marking features I would rather use a Double/Combination square, a T or Saddle Square with holes, or just a ruler for. I find the depth features to be a little too fiddly to use. Because I have trouble getting the depth accurately it makes it less useful for setting up a saw blade/dado height, and the saw blade height usually needs to be different from the depth measurement anyway. I usually use a skinnier depth gauge in combination with some setup blocks. The angle section there's a strong argument for, although I wish is was smaller because it's got such a good chance of being in the teeth of the saw blade. While I like the pictograms, the lack of detents means I want a different reference to start from if I want to be accurate. There's also the fact that the non-45 cuts are uncommon and so I just don't need to go back for the tool. But it's certainly the best feature. I don't hate what Bridge City is doing. It's not like these things are bad. I have several Bridge City tools. But they're rarely what I reach for. There are just these little issue that get in the way of the good parts of these items. And given the premium prices, I feel like I need to use the whole buffalo to justify them. I wish they would iterate on some of the details like some of the other guys, both on the premium end and on the affordable end.

Sorry but I got to call you out on that wood owl overdrive drill bit test, It is easy to tell you did not push the wood owl bit through as hard as you did with the forstner bit and regular bit. It would be better if you used something that controlled the speed and force the bits go through the wood, if you are going to compare them. Any bit is going to blow out plywood if you push it hard.

The whole purpose of Forstner bits is to leave a nearly flat bottom in blind holes. If you use them to drill through, you're using them wrong.

You're also not supposed to use them through on upright wood while jiggling the drill. If you want a clean forstner hole you can definitely get a clean forstner hole. There are multiple ways.

I use forstner bits for making through holes in desks for cable grommets. I have used hole-saws for the same task, but I noticed the walls are much smoother and the edge is much cleaner with forstner bits. Either way, you're starting with a pilot hole and using the bit from both sides to prevent blowout on the back side. Unless you can point me to something that is as cheap and easy to use, but makes a cleaner hole than a hole saw, I will continue to "do it wrong" with forstner bits. EDIT: I should note that the bits in the video won't work. The biggest bit they offer is 1-1/4". The smallest grommet I've ever used is 1-1/2". Though I usually use 2" grommets, or else you're going to struggle getting some grounded power plugs through the hole especially if there's any other cables already going through it.

One tip for very large holes/bits is an oldie but a goodie - you do a pilot hole through the whole board, then drill from both sides, so that when you DO break through, you are breaking through under the surface on both sides, and each side of the surfaces are clean, entry holes.

Thanks for the info. The radius jigs are a great help breaking up a table top giving it some soft curves that make it more appealing; however, you do need to be mindful of your bit height. As to the flush trim saw they are nice to have around as they are a great asset and take up little space.

Matt, I don't know the math of how the channel brings in money, but I'd suggest putting out more project-based content, and less tool advertising content! Endorsements can start to become a bit hollow when your audience doesn't know for sure that you're using these tools actually making things. Conversely, when I watch other channels that are heavily skills/projects based, and they offer the rare endorsement of a tool, I know they really mean it.

Aaron, I appreciate the feedback. My project videos get 10x less views than anything else I post. My last 5 project videos were bottom of the barrel so to speak in terms of view count. Conversely, these tool videos get many more views and engagement. Therefore, I can only deduce that more people would rather watch the tool videos. As for "tool advertising," while this video was sponsored in part, the majority of my tool videos, I purchase the tools myself. If I don't like them, I don't post them and just eat the cost of the tool. If I do like them, I use them and posts my thoughts in videos just like this and link to them which helps me recoup the cost of the tools. Once I get enough "don't like" tools, there will be a video showing the tools I don't like. Hope that helps you understand my thought process on video content.

I purchased one of the Bridge City gauges. If you check the price, it is not cheap, however, keep an eye out for sales. I actually got mine for $89 on sale. Keep an eye out for their sales. Another item to look at, is their kerf maker, the KM1 andKM2. The 3/4” owl bit works great for drilling bench dog holes if you are making your own workbench.

I have the stainless woodpeckers delve square I usually have the smaller one in my pocket. You can set up a router, table saw router table do all your layout on smaller parts by far my most used square.

Goodness, could wood workers get any lazier? That Bridge City tool gauge is beautiful, but us old guys did pretty well without it up to now. It's like having a CNC machine: no soul in the work. I guess CNC is good for production work; but, I think haste makes less than quality work. Just my opinion.

Not really. The Kreg are good for quickly setting the fence distance away from the blade. That's the only thing I can think of that's easier with the Kreg

You can use the left tilt guage or the right just by moving to the opposite side of the table saw. So if you have a right side on a right tilt saw, you just have to walk around the table to guage your angle. Thanks for the video Matt! Always a big help and mentor. as far as the drillbits go it seemed as though you were using a lot more pressure with the other bits, I have used their bits more than once And they don’t tear out any less than anything else. They do leave nice clean halls but then again a good quality Forstner bit do the same thing.

I got the stainless steel Delve squares. *LOVE* it. I know there are Banggood knock-offs that are way cheaper. But at some point, we have to decide as a country to be citizen's first, and consumers second. Or so it seems to me. Besides, the quality isn't even in the same ballpark. TBH, I have one or two banggood stuff. But eventually, I end up buying the OG one because of quality issues.

Great video as always Matt. Wish I could hop on board the TayTool bus, but have experienced subpar product and customer service. I have numerous brands of quick adjust bar clamps and TayTools are not even close to the top. I did a comparison of 6 different brands, from verifying clamp pressure and hold, to bar machining consistency, bar weight, bar flex, clamp faces, trigger and release, etc. I hope to be putting out a video on this soon, folks might be surprised at how some “budget” brands fared. Keep up the great work and keep the Faith brother.

I'm a drummer, and I have built and worked on drums for many years. I always use a step bit for drilling, but the one infallible rule I have figured out is LAQUER the insides of drum shells, and you will not get blow out. Luckily, drums are better off being lacquered inside, so I'm not using laquer unnecessarily. Just thought I'd share that.

I like your channel, but with this particular one I’m a little trouble that you didn’t say right out front that bridge city was sponsoring you. I do believe their gages are very helpful, however you suggest very casually that you should get both of the gauges both left and right which is a $210 purchase not including taxes. That’s a pretty hefty purchase for a couple of gauges. I won’t deny that bridge city makes some very nice products, but they come in a very high price. Again I think you should’ve said upfront that they provided those to you, if they did or if you purchased them tell your audience that you purchased them.

The Bridge City gauge is super cool, but WoodPecker = Festool. I can't see dropping the $$ to simply peacock.
