Courage, friend! I broke my ankle in two places, had surgery, the other foot was broken too, I was in a wheelchair for three months. That was 2+ years ago. I am now doing boot camp 5 days a week. Oh, and I am 75 years old. You can do this! Just do what you can to begin with and build on that and have patience. I began by doing exercises in my wheelchair and now I am doing boot camp. Little by little by little you can do this. Sending hugs.

I'm so grateful for these reminders that an extreme calorie deficit, long workouts and focusing on dieting instead of healthy eating leads to sabotage ourselves. Every time I start to feel and look better I start to get into that unhealthy mindset of workout our much harder and looking at diets that might give me that quick 10lbs loss but will be impossible to maintain long term.

So glad the reminders help! I think we can all get a bit distracted wanting more faster and often we need that little self check to keep ourselves from overdoing it! :-)

Great advice! This is exactly what I did to lose my menapause belly/weight gain. I've replace "cardio" (running and exercise bike) with walking, in part to heal a knee injury, and just wear a pedometer to track my steps. I walk 2-3 times per day and average 6+ miles (12k steps). I'm also vigilant about my weight workouts, which I do 4-5 times per week for ~30 minutes a session. I've never counted a calorie and only weigh myself a couple times of year (at the in-laws), but I know I've lost the weight and kept it off by how my clothes fit and how I feel, which is great 💪

@@redefiningstrengthOC I'm on a plan. See how I do when I go see my current trainer for a weigh and measure in a week. I've pretty much given up any indulgences. I don't want to live a life like that, restricting or feeling guilty for everything I put in my mouth. I've lived like that since my competitions. They mess with your mindset especially when you had someone say to you almost on the daily do you really need that cookie or that cheat meal? That's just an example. My goal is to lose body fat and have it in a normal range.

Stop eating all refined fat, all animal fat. Carbs are not your enemy. Fat causes insulin resistence. Follow Dr.Peter Rogers and look at his insulin resistence playlist. It worked for me. I don't miss the fat and I get my protein from plant based protein powder and oatmeal and other plants. There are vegan athletes, and they compete with carnivors and win. KZbin won't let me post a link here. He is triple board certified and educated by Sandford, Harvard and Yale. I don't agree with his politics, so ignore this, but his science is amazing.

My core problem isn't so much weight as gaining back muscle mass. I was making progress last winter, even with limited time to exercise. Then i had a cancer diagnosis. I'm 5 months into a 6 month treatment plan. I've lost all ground. A 10 lb squat feels like 50. I still work full time and barely make it through day. But the loss of muscle is making me despair. Which saps motivation. Any suggestions for building strength back in limited available minutes per day without feeling like crap about myself? Since working as a PT tech, the whole "focus on weight loss doesn't work" clicked for good. In PT, you can't make goals based on relieving pain because it is a subjective measure and insurance doesn't like that. Instead, PT focuses goals on what the patient wants to return to or what they need to accomplish to return to home. Our bodies are hardwired to keep energy and fat in case there is a famine, which is why it is easier for most to gain weight than lose. This means we will hit a plateau at some point, enforcing that we can't focus on weight loss. It's a secondary effect to what we do.

You can't win the game looking only at the scoreboard. You've got to focus on your actions on the field...the prep before game day...all the practice...And the more we focus and celebrate those habits and the lifestyle we ultimately we want, the more we see ourselves rock those other results!

You can help your skin it just also takes consistency. Derma rolling 1 time a week over times will help. Use at least 1mm but preferably higher on the body. I do my face, neck, chest, arms, belly and knees every sunday. Plus i use skin firming creams am and pm. The hydration helps skin look better and the habit of doing this also keeps my skin top of mind in preventing me from making bad food choices.. the more muscle I have also helps. Definitely less longer duration cardio sessions too😅

@redefiningstrengthOC10 күн бұрын
Could be you don't eat enough or that your PORTIONS especially your protein isn't in line with your goals. It could also be your workouts need a slight change up :-) Pushing progression truly means that challenge not just that weights feel heavy even. You've put your finger on my current quandry. Finishing a pretty strict cut and deciding what to do next even though I know I still have some fat to lose. Last time I lost weight to where I thought I wanted to be I was very dissatisfied with the results. I didn't look better, just smaller, but that was not really my goal I realized. But shifting to recomp seems scary because how will I know if I'm doing the right thing if my weigh ins don't tell me. I like all of your good advice about other ways to measure progress because more than anything I don't want to go "off" of my healthier habits. I want to continue them for the rest of my life and if it's miserable that's never going to happen is it?.
@redefiningstrengthOC2 ай бұрын
It's hard to shift to eating more when you've just been focused on losing. It is scary. We worked hard to see progress and we don't want to lose it! And the scale WILL go up as you aren't depleted. But that's why having habits you track and other forms of measuring progress are so key. Love that you're recognizing though your trigger foods! That can be key. And it may mean cutting something out knowing our patterns and mindsets with it. The key is still not demonizing it but just understanding what we value and want. And knowing that maybe at some other point you will work in variations or find single serving things that work or even decide you simple are CHOOSING not to have it to feel your best! But recognizing our choice in what we include and don't over feeling restricted or like there is one ideal is key!

I like to do walking with weights videos. What do you think about combining strength training and cardio at the same time?
@redefiningstrengthOC2 ай бұрын
If you have an activity you love, always key we find ways to work that in. But it is key we know the cost of anything we included. I do think you can do workouts that combine conditioning and strength to some extent (circuits, sprints or walking done strategically even post lifting) BUT then how you fuel really needs to be adjusted to account for the cardio. Type of cardio can have a huge impact on building muscle and I do find the more advanced we are the more we do need to adjust to account for the fact that it gets harder to build muscle as we get older and we've adapted to more forms of progression. If you want a goal, sometimes you have to adjust to really focus in on that goal!

@redefiningstrengthOCАй бұрын
Loose skin being 100% honest does NOT always tighten up. Depends on genetics, how long we had the weight on, overall tissue health...the most we can do is stay consistent, focus on lifting to build muscle, not eat too little. Make sure we are focused on protein and micros and hydration for skin health then give things time. Especially coming out of the deficit to maintain can help as much as is possible.

European women mostly dont keep a scale in their home, they go by how their clothes fit. They dont buy new clothes all the time. They will enjoy a dinner party with a few courses, wine, dessert then scale down the following day. They're not infatuated with their weight. Being able to walk to most places because petrol and owning an auto is much too expensive is a big part of it. But , gym, diet, fitness, exercise is rarely in the vocabulary at all.
@AW-gd2qz2 ай бұрын
You are right, totally different experiences for European women vs. American women. I spend 3-6 months/year in Europe and it is so different. The foods are not packed with seed oils, sugars, dyes or chemicals; those are banned in Europe. The breads and pastas are made from softer wheats, not hard red wheat like in America and again, no added chemicals. The dairy is made from sheep and goats milk and the products that are made from cows milk, have the easier to digest A2 protein, not the harder to digest A1 protein like in America. We have added chemicals in our water supply: chlorine, fluoride and who knows what else. To produce as much food as is needed for such a large population, petroleum-based fertilizers are used along with strong chemical pesticides; who knows how much of that is getting into the food! Organic foods are much more expensive and not even offered in some stores as they know most customers won't be able to buy them. Lastly, America is so very car-dependent. Everything is spread out and walking isn't really a great option; roads aren't necessarily pedestrian friendly and walking isn't really a thought any way. I could rant on and on. European women, you are lucky, enjoy!

1. Personally, I am not aiming to look younger than my age, nor do I think the level of of leanness is correlated with what age you look. 2. Though as a health coach, it makes sense for you to give advice (!) on what is a healthy fat percentage for a client, please do not presume to dictate to people what (you think) makes them look charming or attractive, or give opnions about aesthetics as ‘facts’. (I’m not a subscriber (or even freuqent follower) btw.)

If you’re going to judge someone’s appearance, at least have a visible photo of yourself. Cori looks healthy

You're entitled to your opinion but I love how I look and support other women in looking how they personally want too. :-) And whether you like my look or not, clearly it does work for fat loss and shows these tips are key. I've used them with not only myself but clients of all ages to reach THEIR goals. And you can too. You can just use them to reach the level of leanness YOU want.

Say what now?

Great video. After 12 weeks I’m at a plateau and trying not to allow scale to rule me .

Keep up with those habits and if you've been in a deficit for 12 weeks and have hit that plateau, a slight change in macros may be needed or even a diet break!

@ I am afraid to stop Optavia after losing 21lbs and eat regular food !! I work my tail off at the gym . Single mother of 2 full time nurse and very faithful to my church . I make the time for my health . I pray your program can help me . If there are any Optavia clients on your plan love to hear from them . I’m very nervous to be honest to go off Optavia with 40lbs to lose .

@ Waiting to get started with your program . Your sister in law has been amazing everyone has. I can’t take a break from Optavia I would gain weight asap.

So I did a 1/2 day off Optavia . Small bowl of pasta and egg sandwich and 2.5 weeks I have been the EXACT weight 194.2. Waiting to start your plan . Frustrated

Why wait to make a change? No time is ever right. And honestly, under eating can really backfire. No quick fix. Just true habit changes learning to fuel.

@ lol I’m not waiting , I have been lifting heavier and increased my protein. Still exactly the same weight even the ounces . Stronger at the gym absolutely!! Feeling bit tighter and less jiggly absolutely. Where I thought I would be 13 weeks on Optavia only 21lbs down and not ripped or defined at all.? No

Losing weight though isn't the same as just focused fat loss. And the more we often rush weight loss and under fuel the more we often don't see our lifting fully pay off or that recomp happen.
