other important tip - create a “landing pad” for your villagers like the legend of Fatslob does. that way you will always know when can get work force without interrupting existing production.

Or to avoid idleness, when in doubt just set the gather point to a nearby woodline or straggler trees better yet. Never hurts having one more on wood, especially since you’ll need that wood for farms. If I ever need a vill, I just pull ‘em off a wood line, knowing that’s where the “unemployed” go for side hustles.

I find it's easier to task vills to the boar as you're bringing it in, then just garrison, shoot the boar and then use 'back to work' so they jump out to finish it off. Saves you from having to set a gather point.

Seems like an easier way of doing it to me. I don't play enough AOE2 to test it out, but that sounds less demanding.

The problem with that is if you actually hit the boar with those vills before garrison its going to ruin the number of hits you can do with the TC, and if you do that out of range it means longer idle time for those vills. TBH the 2 seconds this saves you it does not worth the risk or the extra attention in my opinion.

I haven't played AOE a lot since 2020. Your method: Task vills to boar. (causes a second of idle time) Garrison shoot Go back to work hotkey Mentioned method: Garrison shoot&set gather point ungarrison Both are 4 steps and require to click the boar twice or am I wrong?

@@letswaveabook3183 Overall I guess it is the same number of steps but I've found when doing it this way I'm less likely to mess up and kill the boar since I don't have to rush to set the gather point, its just shoot and eject.

my sheep vills are on a control group for force dropping anyway, so it is "2 - atl-right-click on TC - double shot - F - 2 - shoot the boar"

Like others getting back into aoe2 after 16+ years. So it's great to see these tips to be efficient in the little time I have have to play now being a dad and all. I'm a mac guy and so I went out and bought a pc tower just for aoe2....don't tell the wife. Really enjoy all your videos especially exploding Kings.

tip number 6-usually at the start of the game there are a few trees very close to your town center,they are called "straggler trees".always chop them first,that way you dont need to pay up front for a lumber camp and you free up more space to build farms.speaking of which,always make 37 farms,its the most efficient way to get food =)

They ARE really fast, but use a lot of hot keys, plus they've been high level for several years or more. It's actually a fairly complicated game, with a growing number of Civs to choose from, all the combinations of army/navy units, then add in counter unit knowledge, quick reflexes, scanning your screen constantly, scanning your stats and messages on screen, listening to all the game sounds. It's a wonder my head doesn't explode.

The first one is so simple, yet so hard to implement 11, at high levels having 1 minute of idle TC might cost the game!

I was surprised when I realized that mills are most likely smaller than farms so you can fit a pair of towers next to them. Making the town bell a little less of a mess for sending the villagers back to work.

I literally rage quit playing aoe2 for like two years because I ungarrisoned my villagers and couldn’t micro to get them back to where they were supposed to go. A lot of this i had slowly gleaned from LowElo videos but lets be honest. it took ~20 hours of your videos (20 enjoyable hours) to learn what you condensed to 5 minutes. These will be very useful for newer players who want to try playing a little more effectively. Keep up the good work!

amount of shooting the boar with TC was helpful. helpful if: (you could repeat more often) > 1 vill shot at boar to lure (unlike classic 2 shots) > if vills lose what they carry when changing jobs >> in fact, a new vid encompassing all changes from classic to DE would be cool (many things got lost in the various intro videos when DE emerged)

Can be done with military buildings too, a hot key to select all the barracks and then a number depending on what unit you want.

One more tip is you can set a gather point on a resource. Might seem so obvious that it's not worth mentioning I If you know about it, but it totally blew my mind the first time I saw someone do it...

Great stuff! Could still need a few more tips 'n tricks :D maybe something about the hotkey builds the high elo's use or some basic base building stuff (building order, building locations, etc.). When I look at the video's it's all clear as daylight but everytime I find myself back in the Dark Age again it's al gone haha. I think you'd do a lot of the youtubers a big favour:) Anyways thanks for all the content. I even watched every minute of the longest game ever... took me a few days on and off but it was worth it. Pitty the ending tho:( Personally I would love to see some ludicrous sized map games.I'm a suckers for long insane games. Another reason why Goths is the best civ for noobs. Instant loom, extra attack against boars.

Occasionally even the high level players forget to do Loom which I suspect is mostly because either tunnel vision to boom their Eco combined, plus trying to anticipate an early opponent Rush, plus maybe dealing with an actual attack. Ther's a lot going on man!

@@UncleEarl97 My strategy lately is hit H as soon as the game starts, then A, that gets Loom done first, out of the way, and gives me a few extra seconds to deal with houses. When I go for vills first I sometimes end up with ~5-10 seconds TC idle time because I get housed, so why not just hit Loom very first thing. Yeah, I'll be a LEL someday, one way or another....

@@johnsmithe4656 honestly not a bad way to go. At a low level that half a vill time behind doesn’t really make a huge difference. Or at least what I think is a really underrated aspect of the game in the minds of hyper-efficient pros is that one of the best things a lower level player can do is things that help simplify and streamline the game. A pro getting early loom could put him behind the competition, but a noob getting it right away prevents both forgetting about it and the very real potential of loosing a vill to a boar.

Something you didn't mention is that tc wont deagro the boar until its dead (even after ungarrison), so if you try to save the luring vill by garrisoning into tc it might get the final shot and lame the boar, it's happened to me too many times

That the Castle has the back to work button and that you can set the waypoint on the boar and have the villagers fire on the boar immediately skipping a couple of clicks.

I played a lot of starcraft 2 and it taught me some great practices for the rts genre in general, the definitive edition has so many quality of life changes that I can actually play it, I tried HD and it just feels off and I can't get the HUD to be a little bigger and the letters were too small anyway, I just put all my TC's on the same hotkey, even as they're being built, I wish the rally for unfinished TC's wouldn't disturb the others, but I get around that pretty easily
