That loop turner also works great for your serger thread tails. Just insert the turner under the looper threads about an inch from the end of the seam and pull that tail backwards.

Hey there!I love your videos and I had to tell you, my first real quilt ,(I’d made many simple, ‘quilts’, with two bed sheets or fabric with batting I tied, which don’t count) so my first real quilt had a Minky backing too! What??? It made me feel downright remedial after sewing for like idk 50 years! (I started when I was 5, no kidding.) So now when anyone I’m making a baby quilt for even mentions Minky , I change the subject haha. Thanks for this tip. It’s sort of a no brainer actually, now that I’ve full on delved into all the interfacings / stabilizers etc available these days. Oh and my first quilt, the one from hell? It had batting too. Try to imagine that ugh. It turned out nice in the end, I guess it was from years of facing down fabric for a battle and winning - you know what I mean. Thanks for sharing, seriously you’re one of my very fav channels - I’m starting one soon, it’s been a long process, but I’m almost there. Wish me luck! I’ll let you know when I finally post my first video. Ps. My name is actually Mary Take care❤

Hard to believe that the washable markers have gone VIRAL as a recommendation for marking tops for quilting if they don't actually come out - so sad but glad at the same time that I haven't fallen for that one yet. I use chalk pencils, air disolving markers and a wooden point turner and rulers for my quilts 😊
@TheSewingChannel

I think the confusion on the "washable markers" is that the ones having good luck with them are not using the red....🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't think I'd want to chance it on a quilt though.

Thanks for the video. I enjoy watching a professional test these "hacks". When they fail when I try them I just assume it's due to error on my part. It's nice to know that sometimes it's simply because the original poster left out some important details. Also, nice to know which one's actually work, too. Another enjoyable video! 🙂

I’ve seen a similar one done with press and seal instead of fusible interfacing. And it was on a larger item.

@@TheSewingChannel have you tried this one? You know those rubbery mats that are used on cookie sheets when baking? They’ve come down in price so much that you can get them for as little as 2 for $5. Use it on your pressing surface whenever you are doing any fusing. It keeps you from getting those ugly sticky lines of glue on your nice clean pressing surface. And it seems to fuse better because the heat doesn’t go into the pressing surface and is reflected back by the silicone mat. I tell you it’s better in my sewing room than in the kitchen. And it was pretty miraculous in my kitchen.

Great tips. Please explain why you shifted the bias line over a 1/4” before cutting so that the lines did **not** meet and would therefore not make a continuous cutting line. Many thanks

That Minky hack is perfect as I love💜 Minky but it scares me to death to use as a quilt backing. I have to,pop,over to me local sewing store and get some of that stretchy knit stuff - didn’t know it even existed. Thanks again Tracy for these great quilting tips and hacks - especially those that don’t work!!!!!

I like to make self binding quilts. It seems logical that I could use the fusible batting tape on the edge of the minky before folding it over and sewing it to the front fabric. What do you think?

Hi Tracy, I cannot believe that the bias tape video without all the pertinent info included went viral! I have seen the whole process as You showed many years ago, probably on PBS a Nancy Zeiman video most likely, In any case, I'm loving that you're testing these hacks for us. It can be so disappointing when You try a hack and it really doesn't work out? Thank You for Sharing!

You're welcome Marie.....I watched the bias binding viral hack on another video platform/not youtube. And they absolutely left out info....they play music in the videos so no one is actually instructing verbally...they think you should just get what is happening by watching🤷🏻‍♀

These were great. Thank you especially for testing the washability of those markers. I would normally test first bf writing on a quilt or clothing on purpose (haven’t done that tho); but little kids won’t, and that’s what these are marketed for! ‘Oh, let me accidentally write on my pants bc it’ll wash out; but not on my shirt bc it will be permanent!’ NOT! 😂 PS: Did you happen to test if white board markers wash out of fabric? I’m thinking that based on the smell, they’re probably permanent! Thx again! 🌷

I have not tested the dry erase markers. To be honest I was shocked that the crayola markers and crayons did so poorly. Some people say it's because you need to wash it 2x...who in the world has time to do laundry twice? LOL😂

So with the washable markers: I use these all the time for pantographs. The trick is to not use the red based markers (red, orange, purple) and to use a color catcher sheet in the wash. It has worked perfectly for me all 3 times I've tried it, including on white snowflake fabric with a black marker
@TheSewingChannel
@TheSewingChannel Жыл бұрын
Yes you definitely will have to wash 2x with some of the colors and use a color catcher....but my issue is that Crayola markets it to be washable...they don't tell you that you may have to wash twice and use a color catcher LOL...From a quilter's point of view....I don't want to go through all that LOL😂 But if it works for you that's awesome!✅

Just say no to the washable markers! I used them once on a scrap quilt. There were certain colors that did not want to come out of certain fabrics. Others were fine. But I had to wash three times to get everything out. Why take the chance? The reason I used them was that I had alot of blue fabrics and of course the water soluble quilt markers are blue. So I needed other colors to show up. What does that leave me with that will show on my fabrics? Things that probably have some reds in them. Not worth it in my opinion.

I agree to error on the side of caution with the markers unless you know for sure a certain color will not stain what you are working on. 🤷🏻‍♀️
