Thanks for showing the past predictions/results/successes/failures. And also, Thanks for emphasizing the lack of science and how much speculation your predictions are being leaned on. Should be really interesting to see how these play out this year. Hope these potential eruptions stay relatively away from doing harm to people.

You know honestly you could say Etna could erupt in any given year and you have a decent chance of being right. It’s rare for it to ever be quiet for too long.

Very easy guess indeed. Just like Kilauea. Or Piton de la Fournaise. In another style, Sakurajima, Suwanose Shima.... Villarrica, possibly Pacaya... Klyuchevskoy is very probably on the list too.

Surprised that you didn't include the volcano in Ethiopia. M4. 7-M5. 2 "swarms" mean something, especially when they last longer than a week, which they have. There's magma down there doing something.

You've talked about the Laki eruption in Iceland during the 1700's which measured at a VEI 4. However a video going a bit more in dept on the Veiðivötn 1477 eruption and Eldgjá's one in 934 would be really interesting. Especially considering Veiðivötn was a VEI 6, and Eldgjá a VEI 5-6. Iceland is also a contender for the worst year to be alive aka 536 ad with the recent ice-core findings in Greenland. Of course, it would have to be a strong VEI 6 or regular VEI 7 to cause such an impact globally. Since no known global VEI 7 eruptions occurred at the time, perhaps an obscured or subglacial fissure eruption rivaling that of Veiðivötn and Eldgjá could be a possibility? Would love your take on this!

@@jakealter5504 based on?
@Dragrath1
@Dragrath1 18 күн бұрын
@@jakealter5504 Yeah thankfully right now none of those are in a state of unrest but it is scary how fast volcanoes can mobilize for an eruption with the faster the rejuvenation and or mixing responsible for that reactivation relative to the amount of melt material involved resulting in a far more explosive eruption. The crystal fractionalization timescales for VEI 8's are terrifying with Yellowstone's lava creek tuff eruption 630,000 years ago apparently heaving held melt in an eruptible state for mere weeks to several months. Thankfully these conditions are quite rare hence why such big eruptions are rare but it means it is hard to rule out an eruption from an active caldera complex. That said Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei appear to have an inversely corelated activity rates meaning when one is in a state of unrest its counterpart is quiescent so statistically based on the Holocene record given that for the latter half of the 20th century on we appear to have entered an interval where Campi Flegrei is in a state of unrest while Vesuvius quiets down I would more likely bet on Campi Flegrei erupting at least once before Vesuvius reawakens though nothing is certain and correlation is not causation. And Honest Campi Flegrei is much worse given that its caldera is heavily developed with even its resurgent dome being urbanized despite the sill complex at 3.5 km refilling with a mix of phonolitic and trachytic melts some of which certain researchers believe their is evidence for melts being as high up as 2 km below the surface. Why people are you living there? All but 2 of its Holocene eruptions have been either a VEI 3 or VEI 4 the exceptions being a VEI 5 followed by a VEI 2 lava dome. Its a much bigger ticking time bomb compared to its sibling Vesuvius.

Kilauea. Yes, it's currently erupting, but also, it could continue erupting much or all of the year, or it could stop and then re-erupt three or more times. Well within the realm of the possible.

Picking volcanoes that erupt this frequently you’re gonna have a high chance of being right that’s why it’s almost impossible to predict volcanic eruptions from volcanoes that haven’t erupted in over 50 years.

Etna always erupts and Reykjanes has been very active recently also Krakatoa is very likely to erupt But you miss some volcanoes that are also likely to erupt Fentale (or Dofen?) Mt Cameroon 12-13 years and it has been 12 years since it last erupted Axial seamount Colima At least to me because for example the Fentale one is behaving like the reykjanes one last year

How do you count your accuracy relative volcanoes that did erupt, but you did not predict that they would? It seems you only compared which volcanoes you predicted would erupt, but didn't. Instead of arbitrarily picking the 5 most likely, you could list all that you think will erupt with an associated relative likelihood score. Then you can keep score with both methods: how many you got right that did erupt; and how many that did erupt that you did not predict would. Or maybe you have better things to do than create prediction accuracy stats. Happy New Year! I enjoy your concise, informative videos.

@@Salvador_but_he_plays_gd Also it has been erupting continuously since 1934 so there aren't many people left alive who were born before its current eruption started. And that gap in time was just a 2 year pause in eruptive activity in an eruptive record which has been near continuous since at least the 1900's barring occasional several year pauses in eruptive activity. Still has nothing on the sustained eruption Duration of Mt. Yasur which has been erupting continuously since at least 1270 CE.

Can almost guarantee in New Zealand White Island/Te Puia o Whakaari will erupt. Outside chance of Mount Ruapehu erupting. Not so sure of Ngauruhoe's activity. Fingers crossed neither Auckland or Taupo decide to join the party in 2025, neither are showing signs both are overdue. Thanks for the content through the year, been most excellent following each week, very informative, though claiming the granite belt in Queensland was active was over the top, zero activity in mainland Australia dude, the Country is on a single plate.

What I see is a scarp forming that's about 1/10 of a mile long and about 1.2 miles above some residents in Northern RENO Nevada. Its about 800 feet higher in elevation then the residents at the bottom of the drainage. The scarp location is; 39°32'42.81"N 119°57'38.22"W and the residents is: 39°31'31.23"N 119°57'55.79"W The image date is 6/23 on Google Earth Is something to worry about? A valid question hence the 'like'. The answer is almost certainly none at all, at least in terms of a supereruption, though conceivably (not probably!) higher in terms of the minor eruptions that do occur between the supereruptions. But I am no expert - it would be good to hear it from Tim or one of the professional level regular commenters.

bro, can you please help me checking the information of this volcano? name: burni telong some other name : Geureudong location: Bener Meriah Region, Aceh, Indonesia. 4°46′00″N 96°49′19″E  Elevation: 2,624m Above sea level type : Stratovolcano recorded eruption: 1837, 1839, 1856, 1919, and 1924 arguable eruption : 2004 (idk why some information claim it's erupt during that time especially during tsunami 2004, probably being triggered by the 9.2-3 earthquakes BUT I live right on it's foot and I don't remember it erupted or that, there's also another possibility at that time me and my father are too panic and we didn't pay attention much to the volcano itself or idk maybe I was too young at that time (second or third grade elementary student) what I remember is it having a lot of landslides but I'm pretty sure that happened because the earthquakes caused by tsunami not the volcano itself. additional information : sometimes at night we can hear the seismic activity but there's no other sign. it could be a sign but keep in mind that there's no other sign especially on the volcano itself, the one that I'm talking about is the rise of the temperature on nearby hot spring so to sum it up, here's the challenge : 1. been dormant for 100 years 2. no observable sign other than seismic but it's still very low and you can't always hear it, night time is the only time you can hear it if you're lucky 3. lack of document and monitoring from officials 4. it's stratovolcano. conclusion challenge: a 100 years dormant STRATOVOLCANO, with no observable activity but have seismic activity and lack of documents. we don't even know if the gas already accumulated enough or not yet, what I'm afraid is, it's already accumulated enough but due to the crater being is buried, it's like a soda being mixed with Mentos on water bottle and keep being shake, the problem is you don't know the level of endurance this bottle have.

Secondly, if you really can't stand the voice once you know this, simply mute the video and follow it on the transcript in the Description section (which he does check for accuracy I think, unlike many probably most KZbin creators).
