Your first point about our jobs and identity and how you feel about it really resonated with me. My fancy job was nothing more than a signal to others that I had made it in some way. They didn't know that I cried every day, I wasn't very good at it, and that my boss treated me horribly. It just mattered that I got to say I was off to the World Bank or setting up a meeting with so and so ambassador. When I left to go back to teaching I didn't want to tell anyone. I felt like I wasted my fancy NYU degree and that I was giving up. BUT, as these stories go, it was the best decision ever. You're such a shining light Caroline. You could do any job and it still wouldn't be the most impressive thing about you. Let your heart and mind believe that! Thanks for another great video.

@@Caroline_Winkler I grew up in the "those who can't, teach" era so it was really hard to wrap my brain around identifying as a teacher even though I loved it and it made me happy. I think what I've learned is that the joyful people don't care what their life looks like from the outside, they just carry on with what brings them joy. That's what I want! And I legit don't know where my degree is! I'm thankful for it but I also think I lost it :)

I worked years to finally get an executive position in the nonprofit world. Loved the mission, hated the job. Enjoyed the accolades my friends and family gave me for achieving my goal but not enough to stay. I left for another job but got laid off during pandemic. Returned to prior org where I was formerly COO and now I’m a consultant writing their grants, working remotely, and living life for me! I never get excited about an influencer or KZbinr putting out a video but I can honestly say if you had 100s of videos I’d happily watch them all. I really felt for you when you mentioned the bit about getting respect for being a coder and not an artist. As a society we put too much pressure on job titles, for what? That’s not what makes us dignified and valuable, it’s our actions, and morality that do, in my opinion at least 🤷🏽♀️

I love that you are genuinely annoyed by things on your videos. Most youtubers are so over happy and over positive when they film themselves it makes the viewer think that something is wrong with him. I love that you are real, you do not smile all the time, you are pissed off by things of the day to day life, you are just a real person with positive and negative emotions and this is reassuring to watch. Have a good day!

I just discovered you through your viral video and watched the vlog where you mentioned how this other video has performed really poorly... I had to come look at it. Girl, you did a great job. I could feel the passion you have for the content pieces you recommended and convinced me to go check them out. Funny enough one of my least watched videos is exactly the same topic as this one and I also didn't understand what I did wrong. No matter how much work and passion we put into our videos, sometimes they just don't perform well. Loved your reasoning around it in that vlog. I also recently made a video that got me to my first million views on a video and it's definitely not one of the best I have on the channel 🤷♀ Your home organization video instead is a masterwork! You'll improve so many daily lives with it, mine included. Sending some love from Udine, Italy.

The different ways your brain activates when you learn from reading vs hearing or seeing does have value. Working those muscles is important. But yes if you need to absorb most info a certain way, that's the best way for you. But still working on your weaknesses is important vs dismissing reading as a "never" for you.
@miaschu76142 жыл бұрын
It helps if you make notes, too (if your learning is academic, rather than something just for you). The different actions, together, help fix the new information into your working memory. Something similar can be done whilst listening to information, otherwise students would never learn anything in a lecture!

I wish when I was a young girl, teen, 20 something we'd had as much info available about whats "normal". I always felt like somekind of weirdo or outlier. Most females were too afraid to speak their truth, and yep I am talking about being a teen in the 60s. Anyway keep doing what you're doing, you do it well. I ESPECIALLY LOVE your honesty around your fear and self doubt, please dont ever stop telling your truth. BTW, Im going to stick my neck out and go against the crowd. I completely resonate with your point about a glorified career that you're unhappy with. I graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree, and somehow it sort of became my identity to my family and relatives where I get lots of compliments. When I decided I didn't want to pursue anything related to my degree, my family hated the idea. Some part of me loves the attention when they regard me as an engineer, but honestly what is an Industrial engineer even? hahahaha. Plus, the pay suck. That moment when you zoned out for a solid 30 seconds... I really liked it. It shows that you are a real person, and was very relatable. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy all of your videos.

Hey Caroline! Just started watching your videos. You’re so fun to watch! :D I just paused your video at the Adam Grant section because I needed to let you know that I started as a programmer and then tried acting! Haha. I was good at coding and bad at acting. But I didn’t really enjoy either of them. Neither expressed my interests or values. Now I’m a psychotherapist. The difference in how my work energizes me is like night and day! Doing something we don’t love for work is like if we’re all chewing bitter pills for our daily nutrition and collectively concluded that eating is just something everyone has to do throughout the day to stay alive. Work should fuel you! Even now, I end every working day energized, but I still go into them apprehensive because our culture and my past experience tell me to fear effortful work :/ Isn’t that awful? Oh yeah I’m also into the dead flowers in your background! Maybe it’s the juxtaposition of the visual vibrance and the..deathiness? 😂

So this might be a weird comment. But you're weird & I'm weird so here goes! KZbin recommended one of your videos to me a couple of months ago and thank fuck I clicked on it. I've been obsessed ever since. I watched a few random ones that were recommended, then decided to go to the beginning (bc I'm crazy like that!) and see how you evolved. Here's the thing. I watch a lot of KZbin. Like a ridiculous amount. And out of alllllllllll my subscriptions, you are and have been my fave for a while now. I am retired (thus the unhealthy amount of YT watching), but you are living what I would describe as my perfect single young adult life. I love your clothes, decor style, family, apartment (obsessed!), location and all the things you fill your life with. I have yet to dislike any of your videos. And this one was no different. I couldn't believe it when you said nobody watched it. I went to the websites, Instagram, podcasts, etc and thought you gave a lot of helpful tips, as always. You have changed my view of decorating, right as I am redecorating our home & I've decided to go for a more personal curated style instead of all the HG, Anthro, Mcgee & Co, etc decor that everyone has (not that there's anything wrong with that). Your advice just spoke to my soul. I look so forward to when I have the time to sit and watch a few of your videos in a row. And I'll be so sad when I'm caught up. I might just start over again. You are just so fucking authentic and that is very refreshing. Also, I hope you have good knee health now. I tore my meniscus several years ago and it's a bitch. Then did it to my other knee. I'm currently needing both knees replaced but injections are putting that off for now. Anyway, I hope you didn't think this was too crazy. I'd been wanting to make a comment for a while & this seemed like the perfect time! Much love to you, girl! 💖

I am sooo sorry I did not watch this video earlier. Thank you! I related very much to a few of your points. I feel like had I been exposed to these bits as a younger woman, my life might have taken a different direction. I regret nothing but also wonder always.

I don't define myself by my occupation ~ yuck! Eeewww to people who ALWAYS ask, "What do you do (for a living)?" Pls stop. Let's live for a living, how 'bout that! Have some hobbies, have some relationships, have some dang fun once in a friggin while. Calm down and if we must be defined, let's define ourselves by our unique lives y'all. 💚

Not me, embarassed af, realizing I've been watching you and Paige Wassel thinking you're the same person? I just thought, well lighting/ makeup and maybe these were recorded years apart. 🤦🏻♀️ Lol so glad I have 2 new people to follow, and not just one confusing person. 😬

Okay so…. I started watching your channel for the home decor tips, then continued exploring your videos because I enjoyed your presentation style (authentic, meaningful, intentional, funny af, I could go on…) . They say that content should be niche, and at first glance you deliver a range… but there is a common thread, and you have definitely nailed a solid and captivating purpose! Initially I wanted to say “motivational speaker” (🤮) but there is so much douchebaggery associated with that and the term diminishes what you deliver. “Navigational Coach”??…. Eww, that word “coach”. But YES navigational! I’ll stop trying to pinpoint it, but I am getting so much from your content and want to say how much I appreciate it 🧡 You have hit on something ineffable and practical and very inspiring. Thanks! Your insight is thicc and you are sharp as a tack.

LOL IF I ever even do become successful in ANY of the things I want to do, I guarantee you I will have the most abnormal, crazy stories that will make people's jaws drop and say "wtf yea you go through insane crazy shit". But that's also what makes me worry, because I feel I really do go through way more rough times than the average person, and it makes me wonder when it's my time to finally have things good happen for me, and this crazy scaryness will stop ): (not looking for pity here, I just am genuinely going through crazy shit in my life constantly, and I'm horribly depressed and I do not have access to a proper outlet or help ): So that's one reason I suppose that I let things out on KZbin comments XD

Love your videos. Love how opinionated you are. I'm a reader, rather than a listener so haven't got into podcasts but know I'm in the minority. Really enjoying the mix of videos you're making. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺

You might enjoy Amanda Holden (aka Dumpster Doggy). She's super funny and really knowledgeable about personal finance/investing. A lot of her content is focused on inspiring and empowering people (esp. women) when it comes to managing money and/or "DIY investing." 💚

Hi girl! I love your channel. I struggled for so long with the "who am I? " thing. I turned to Buddhism and Hinduism and yoga for years. I always felt great for a little while. Clarity would come in waves. Then I heard someone say "if you're the problem, then you can't also be the solution." that really stuck with me and it kind of flew in the face of all that I had learned. I then started reading different types of books. One of them was by Allie Beth Stuckey 'you're not enough' it really spoke to me in a lot of ways. I highly recommend it. God bless!

Another cool book is - Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza.. It's all about meditation and how it can change your life, by changing your negative mindset etc. Pretty cool book! Definitely recommend. Cool video too btw! 🙂
