My BP is always very high at the doctors office due to high level of fear mongering that goes on. I almost decide not to go because of that. Otherwise at home my BP is good.

My BP is almost always high at the dr. office. More so in recent years for some reason. My doctor asked me to check it a home over the course of a month and send it in to the office. It was all close to 120/80, and often lower. The only time it was high was at another dr. appt in that month. I believe that this relieved her concern, but haven't seen her in person to discuss it.

same. I recently had a visit where I got an abnormal lab result and was panicking. Of course my bp was high in the office. HE seemed concern over that reading. I looked him straight in the eye and said 3 times, "you do realize I am panicking right". I've had higher numbers too in general when going. Most of the people that have this are already anxious. Sensitive. Even to the drugs they prescribed. So, you cant really relax. THEN, after a few visits and bad experiences, it's almost a set up for another one. I am currently on Metatopral ER 12.5 mg and my bp at home is 109/74. And now I am having bad dreams on this one. So tired. Anyone have a good suggestion for a safe natural alternative. I am so sick of side effects and this cycle of trauma. It's like they give us a drug for one thing and five more things happen to our bodies. How is that healing? My insurance wont cover a naturopath so im stuck with this lousy system of throwing pills. Here in the west, we are supposed to have the best. But our healthcare sucks. And then my favorite. You get there and the nurse leads you to your room. Asks a few questions and slaps the arm monitor on, some even talk. The AMA recommends no talking, nothing, and having the person have a least five minutes without distraction. NONE of that happens in a doctors office. I agree with the comments too. One reading is snap shot in time. IT can change then next mins or ten. I take my first reading at home, throw that out, then do three and average them. How can one reading help. Especially if you're going every 3 months or 6. Then the white coat thing. It's not a syndrome. Most people when they go to doctors offices, hospitals, etc, aren't exactly feeling safe. It's a place of sickness, dying, disease, medical instruments, etc. So its not exactly a safe place to relax to get where your truly at. Unless you work at a place like it and become used to it. Sorry about the mini rant just extremely frustrated. And last. Side effects. We all get them, esp on blood pressure drugs. I don't mind feeling dizzy here and there or things minor like that. But for example, this beta blocker. I had dizziness for the first days and it went away. The problem is that my sleep suffers. Vivid dreams like my dad dying and all that for a week. He reduce me and it's still happening. Then you call, never heard of that. Go online, beta blockers have been KNOWN to cause sleep disturbances because they cross the blood brain barrier and CNS affects! lol. Btw, im sorry for my lengthly post. Those that have higher numbers at the office but are fine at home. Ask your doctor for a 24/hr ambulatory monitor. It records your BP for a full day. That will give you , your TRUE number. Usually this is done through a cardiologist. I asked my GP he said no and the waiting time to see one is six months.

I use a wrist cuff, I have taken it with me to the appointment s and it comes really close to their machines. I also do what Dr. Barnyard says that they should do a BP 3 different readings and dis regard the first readings. People have white coat syndrome or stressed about going to an appointment.

Most Omron BP monitors have an option to have it take 3 readings with 1 minute breaks between each reading, and then will average them to give you a final reading.

my relative very thin did eat meat but had hypertension & diabetes.passed away @ 92 . no sugar in his diet. A friend wears child size clothing but she has hypertension and she does eat meat as she hunts but is very thin she does not drink. Another friend tiny a vegetarian has a cholesterol of 500. Yikes. Me I would have to starve to get to a bmi of 22. Exercised all my life , was a vegetarian for 30 yrs but became plant based 2020. Still heavy but I do drink wine or sake . I like to have a glass of wine . I do purchase vegan wine which is not filtered with an animal type of filter that non vegan wine is filtered with. Not sure I can give that up. It does elevate my b/p. But my hypertension was not silent I got sick and dizzy. Took it and it was very high. I had gained 25 lbs due to stress . I go to the doctor and my systolic always the goes up. I dont do stress well. thank u for doing this presentation. Very helpful. I guess I just have to pick my poison.

The doctor is referring to “wall sits”. I remember they had us do those in PE to see if we were physically fit. 😊
