Food shapes not only how long we live but how good we feel. So what’s the scoop on food and happiness? There's no doubt that ice cream, cookies, and chips have brought a lot of smiles to a lot of faces. But we also know that there’s more happiness in health than in sickness. Food Revolution Network founder Ocean Robbins shares his remarkable family story, and how food can contribute to a thriving life. #tedx #healthyfood #foodandhappiness Ocean Robbins is co-founder & CEO of the 700,000 member Food Revolution Network. He is author of the bestseller, 31-Day Food Revolution: Heal Your Body, Feel Great, and Transform Your World. Ocean founded Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES!) at age 16, and directed it for the next 20 years. He has spoken in person to more than 200,000 people, organized online seminars and events reaching more than a million, and facilitated leadership development events for leaders from 65 nations. He has served as adjunct professor for Chapman University, and is a recipient of the national Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service, the Freedom’s Flame Award, the Harmon Wilkinson Award, and many other honors. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Whole plant foods make me happy! :-) I went plant-based in 2018 starting with giving up meat, and kept going from there. I lost weight, eliminated panic attacks, and prevented myself from developing type 2 diabetes like my grandma and mom. I’m grateful every day for God leading me to the plant-based life because it has literally saved my life. We now have a 2-year-old son who has been plant-based from birth! Thank you, Ocean, for this inspiring message, and for always standing strong for health. Your work matters! I’ll be sharing this video with my audience later today. :-)

Amazing story! I'm glad I started relatively young, when I was 18 but it inspired me to go into health coaching and then to becoming a physician- and doing it the right way with all the amazing plant based docs as role models like Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Brooke Goldner, Dr. Saray Stancic, and more! I found Ocean and John Robbins and their amazing work with FRN along the way! It's been quite a journey of learning and helping others as a health coach, and have been doing my best to get fellow pre meds on board as well!

I was very impressed with Ocean's low-key but firm stance on food choices for bettering (or worsening) our lives. In previous speeches he came on a bit condescending, but not here. He was down-to-earth, and made suggestions without implying that he has all the answers for everyone. Bravo!!!!!!

Thank you, Ocean. During our practice of Naturopathic Medicine in Canada, we showed your dad's video, Diet For a New America, to our patients in the waiting room. I love that today, 30 years later, you work with your father to provide the public with yearly Food Revolution Summits to educate large numbers of people on health-related topics. You have also played a part in initiating a change in M.D. licensing exam requirements, so that Nutrition will be introduced into Medical School curriculums. It is a inspiring to hear you speak; with the insight of a trauma-informed healer you know that while food choices and their results seem obvious, behaviors are difficult to change until false and limiting beliefs are undone, and we have forgiven ourselves for entertaining the mad idea of separation. My heart is filled with gratitude for you, Ocean !

Thank you so much Ocean for sharing your family history. It proves and is another reminder to me how changes we make every day and every moment affect our future for positive or negative. One of my saying is “ how I treat my body today is how it will treat me tomorrow”. We determine our future by our present choices. Kinda like a “choose your own adventure” book.

Used to love Baskin Robbins and am so grateful that Food Revolution came instead afterwards!! I’m a vegan and would love if a vegan chain of food was created around the world to compete with MacDonald s for instance to make vegan fast food available to the masses. Imagine being able to get a salad or chia seed pudding at a vegan chain around the world!!!! Thank you happiness through health!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I'm currently watching Ocean's Food Revolution Network 6 day live summit 2024 online. Really inspirational docuseries featuring people who've successfully overhauled their diet and lifestyle to improve health/vitality and alleviate or reverse certain health challenges. Backed up by science. His father, John, co-presents. Amazing pair!

Awesome presentation, Ocean! I was excited when I saw the email that it was your first Ted Talk! I've been a big fan of the work of you and your dad, subbed to FRN a few years ago! I started eating Whole Food Plant Based, since around 18 but learning about all of it inspired me to go into health coaching and then to becoming a physician- and doing it the right way with all the amazing plant based docs as role models like Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Brooke Goldner, Dr. Saray Stancic, and more! It's been quite a journey of learning and helping others as a health coach, and have been doing my best to get fellow pre meds on board as well! Thank you for all that you, and btw the summit is amazing! I shared it far and wide! God bless you and your family :)

I wholeheartedly applaud Ocean Robbins and his Food Revolution Network for wanting to share this path towards better health and happiness for humans and the planet. But until the barriers to change and to sustaining changed behaviours are overcome, I'm sadly a little skeptical about how much can be achieved (even as a long-time vegetarian who finds it VERY hard to resist cheese, ice cream and gooey caramel sayce from time to time). But do keep it going and encouraging us all. Thank you!
