Wonderful! How beautiful advices! I wish to practice but can't hold the ukulele for a while. I think I need to use a strap but don't dare to drill the instrument. Can you tell how may I manage it?
@KenMiddletonUkulele2 жыл бұрын
You only need a strap if you play standing up. I can't explain in words how to install a strap button. You need to go to a guitar shop with a good technician. Or ask a friend who has done it before.

Thanks, I.'ll try to do so.

@@ametista15 I don't want to give you regretful advice, so please use your own discretion; but, after looking up how to do it and getting the appropriately sized drill bits I've now installed 6 of them. There are really only a handful of things that can go wrong in this situation: 1. Starting with too large a drill bit could crack the instrument. 2. Using too large a drill bit for the final size of the hole such that it is too large* for the strap button screw and 3. Positioning the strap button in an awkward place. I don't know how confident you are in your own abilities, but it doesn't take too much skill; just be thorough in your research and proceed carefully. :)

Oh, also, I prefer to use a strap myself because my hands and wrists get very tired/weak and it takes some of the weight off them, negligible though it may be. This helps me play for longer, keeping the instrument a little higher on my body and it helps me exclusively focus on pressing down on the strings.

@@compassionandhumility You are very kind ; I find your remarks very accurate and valuable. I think I have manual dexterity but also great respect for any instrument. In fact, I’ve kept guitars and ukuleles parked for years so I can't use them without a strap. Whenever I feel compelled to resolve the issue of the strap, my "veneration" on the instrument has slowed me down. There is a type of strap that hangs from the neck and instrument’s mouth, but my neck is affected. I'll have to trust some music store employee. Thank you very much for your kindness. Stay well.
