I have learned this from another KZbinr(NDYakAnger). I now use Yum Dingers since they are so much cheaper than Senkos. To wacky rig, I'll put a 1/4in wide piece of heat shrink tubing on the center of the worm and shrink it down with a bic lighter. To rig it, use a wacky rig hook, small EWG, or even an octopus hook, but skin hook the heat shrink. Do not put the hook through the worm. I fish this all the time now for LMB and SMB in rivers and lakes. I can get 3-4 good bites off one worm, sometimes more. Of course its not gonna be weedless but that's to be expected from any open hook configuration.

50 years ago they wanted the bullet weight to be loose to prevent the weight from causing the hook to be ejected by the Bass's head slinging back and forth. We used live eels we would collect with a screen door put under the hyacinths found in Fl at the time. When you lifted the door you picked the plants out and the eels would fall on the screen door. Than we went to pig strips and than hard plastic round worms, old school. Fished with a cane pole wading in the lakes around Tampa and lake Okeechobee. Of course now I wouldn't put my hand in the water down there.

I've learned to run an offset hook for wacky rigging. My preference is the Owner #2 Mosquito hook. Pulling baits out of the bass' mouth becomes a non-issue. It just doesn't happen because if the bass has it's mouth closed, that hook will always catch the top or bottom lip due to the hook being bent. Often times you'll actually get a good hook set in the roof of the bass' mouth.

My grandfather and his tournament buddies started fishing wacky rigs a very long time ago, but would always use a smaller wide gap, like a size 1(they didn't have "wacky rig hooks" back then), and basically set it up weedless texas style, but in the middle of a 6" trick worm. Sometimes we would take a small length of lead core solder and push it into the end (this completely changes the action obviously). My friends called me crazy for awhile until wacky worms became a big thing.

Hey guys, great tip on the "poor man's" wacky rig with the black tape. My question is do you think it would work, or be a good idea to use a bright color or reflective tape instead of the black tape? I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to get the attention of the fish, or if it would be bad because it would not look "real", or bring more attention to the hook itself. Your thoughts? Maybe a trial?

I highly recommend you use two bobber stops if you plan to tie a snell knot. One usually burns off or one wears off throughout the day when flipping. I don't do it for just worm fishing though when tying a polomer.
@alex.h29207 жыл бұрын
You'll probably get a better hook up ratio if you take out two o-rings and out them on the worm so their overlapping each other in an x shape that way the hook isn't parallel to the worm

@rjopek7 жыл бұрын
Another great trick to use while whack rigging with o-rings is to put two rings on and cross them (like an "X") in the middle. Hook the finesse wide gap through the "X" and it keeps the hook perpendicular to the stick bait. This eliminates the hook from going parallel to the stick bait when using one o-ring (the hook will often go horizontal and exit the horizontal bass mouth!).

With drop shot hooking the stick bait I perfer hooking the bait as I was going to Texas rig it. Near the same as nose hooking but it helps prevent the bait from rolling down the hook and going vertical, it keeps it in the correct horizontal position. Just my experience 🤔

cancrusher same. I've always had luck on chatter baits,crankbaits,tubes.etc I tried senko's because everyone swears by them, but I've never even had 1 hit
@hank72247 жыл бұрын
A senko is just about the only thing I have confidence in when fishing for bass around the house. Western WA doesn't have great bass fisheries, especially if you don't have a boat. But I use them in Eastern WA as well and you don't necessarily have to fish it slow, it's just the most common presentation. My favorite way to catch em is fishing it almost like a swim jig, or a fluke, (weightless) so a little slower to keep it lower with pauses like helicoptering a spinner. I use a full size senko, preferably with a bright tail on a 4/0 hook, and once I find them it's easy to slow down and fish the spot thoroughly.
@josh.nalepa65967 жыл бұрын
Hell, I've even caught a shit ton of more fish on creature/beaver style baits. Especially in the rocky river in ohio. I feel like I waisted my money on senko's.

this has been bugging me for a while, but why do you nose-hook a drop shot instead of hooking it like a texas rig or ned rig?
@fishersoffin5247 жыл бұрын
Brad S because a drop shot is typically fished on very light weight tackle to aid in strike detection, it is hard to set the hook through the plastic of a plastic worm like on a texas rig. both a texas rig and a longer hook threaded through the worm also take away some of the action of the worm, just becase they take up more of the body of the lure. using a small hook and nose hooking the bait allows for the most realism, action, and best hook-up ratio. Also, check out the bubba shot for a texas rig drop shot. Tight Lines!
@Mjc1035 жыл бұрын

Any hook will work. I've been using cheap ass Eagle Claw 2/0 weedless hooks and just got some cheap ass Paxipa ones from Amazon... Paxipa 100 pack weedless for $7. Got 2/0 and 3/0 sizes. I use 4" Yum Dingers, 10 pack for $3 or whatever is on sale cheaper at the time, which is rare. I use hair bands from Dollar General.. 100 pack for $1. Use 2 or 3 bands wrapped 4 times each on to a wacky tool and slide them on to the worm. Throw the hook on and start casting. Cheap fast setup and it's going to make each worm last as well as anything else out there. If a band breaks, the other ones save the worm and I can throw another band on. If fishing heavier weeds, use 3 or 4 bands.
