In this video I’ll show you 5 ways to make your pentatonic scale solos stand out from the rest. Break away from the always the same sounding licks. We’re going to put some real spicy notes in this basic and straightforward scale. We going to look at the mixing major and minor, adding the blue note, the raised sixth and combining major and minor thirds. On top of that I’ll tell you about the magic of substitution. By substituting the basic pentatonic scale by other keys you find yourself being a divers solo guitarist in seconds with only those good old pentatonic scale patterns. There are lots of possibilities with this golden technique. This also gives us possibilities to play modes with simple pentatonic scales. Here you see examples of the Dorian Pentatonic Concept and the Lydian Pentatonic Concept. You will see licks very different styles.

Subscribed instantly because 1, good video and audio quality, sick guitar, simple demonstration of a some complex lessons, free, and a very good guitarist. Deserve more subs. One criticism, lower the backing track volume a bit when giving examples

Very good lesson, a well earned sub! Constructive criticism: I find the note numbers on the tabs on the blues note improvisation too small to read easily, and I'm watching on a 32" TV. The fretboard diagram combining the blue note and the raised 6th is 2 frets sharp.

Question: Why is a B-flat minor pentatonic used with the G7b13 in the last example in C major? The note of the third degree in G major is B and not B-Flat I'm asking because I don't know and am still learning. Thanks!
@QJamTracks
@QJamTracks 3 жыл бұрын
Using the minor pentatonic scale of the 3rd degree gives you a lot of colour tones that fit nicely over an altered chord or b13 chord in this case. The B flat works like a #9/b10. It just adds a colour tone.

This must be illegal. You cant teach us this easy hack. I mean your lesson is all i need! You surpassed the Lesson for Target notes, chord tones, caged, triads, modes. They are all condensed in one pill now. One shot and youre done! No need to learn deep information. Note: this is not for beginners though.

what is major (mixolydian) progression mean?? is that you can play those scale with a 5th degree of a maj7 chord? pls help 🙏
@QJamTracks
@QJamTracks 3 жыл бұрын
Well, a mixolydian progression is always major, because it has a major third. The Mixolydian mode is the 5th mode of a major scale (it starts on the 5th note of a major scale). You would play a mixolydian scale for instance over a dominant 7 chord, because this chord is the 5th chord in the major scale.

But than there is the 3 versions of the Jump scale major, minor, and full, and the father of them all the Major scale flat 5. The minor 7th flat5, and 3 jump scales are derived from it to give the true 1920-1940 blues/jazz flavor that is almost forgoten today.

I'm impressed you know the raised 6th scale. Though I was the only one. Fits In the melodic minor also.

Dorian has a b7, not a raised 6. If the 6 was raised ther would need to be a major 7… there isnt
@QJamTracks
@QJamTracks 5 ай бұрын
I see your point. Actually it has a natural 6th (that is a better description indeed) , but you could think of it as raised compared to the minor 6th in the natural minor scale. The b7 is present in all minor modes of the major scale.

COUPLE incorrect diagrams in this lesson in the "maj7 section" ( C major 7 with C# penta hahah )-should check your info is correct before posting -other than that nice lesson
@QJamTracks
@QJamTracks 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gene. Although I made a mistake I think your comment does not reflect the grade of the mistake. I made a small error by showing the right scale with the right chord, but the subtitle is wrong, yet anyone can see from the graphic, tablature and example that I mean Bm pentatonic over C major 7. So to say that the video is full of mistakes, while the video gives lot's of descent, well build information is too harsh does not reflect the quality of the video in my opinion.
