You actually have more options there than here in Manila. We don't even have ube jam in our groceries. 😅 But we do have ube-flavored condensed milk in some stores.

in my country, they called it slightly different as "UBI" and we have 2 colors of it, the purple one and the more sweet the yellow one ❤

UBE is native to the Philippines. It is a purple yam. I think you’re referring to the purple and yellow/orange sweet potatoes.

I LOVE ube halaya, it's always my request whenever anyone goes to baguio LOL my second favorite use is when my mom would make ube balls with a cube of cheese inside and add them to ginataang bilobilo. It's sooo good it's one of my ultimate childhood favorite dishes.

I don't think the market I shop at has the bigger chunks of ube, I've only ever been able to get the puree which I have a bunch in the freezer right now as well as we can get the powder and the extract. I've also bought ube condensed milk before!

I live in New Jersey, so I wud like to know all I can, and at least find something similar. You mentioned yours had dye? And I'm wondering why it needs dye when the one itself is colored purple. Does the extract also give flavor?

kind of similar to a typical orange yam in terms of fiber content being higher than a regular potato and better for blood sugar regulation, but because it’s purple (not orange), the plant’s pigment to make it purple is called Anthocyanin, this pigment is what makes other foods red or purple (like blueberries, cherries or cabbage). It has some antioxidant properties.

The extract is not made of real ube, but flavorings and food coloring. You are better off getting the real frozen ube. Even the jam is not 100% ube and its full of artificial colorings and preservatives.

Ube is not only available in the Philippines. It’s available in most of the Asian countries. We use it to make a savory potato curry. I personally don’t like it. But some use it make roti. I used it and made ube jam. And Ngl I liked it hahaha.

Ube originated in the Philippines, you can found it any other countries because of transferring of it to them for planting there, just the same how many American Plants reached Asia and spread there all over the countries there. Also thru export of it that allows it to be available in other Asian Countries, it's Trade and Exchange between Countries.
