You know you're ex Navy when you 'pay attention to detail' to small things more than you think you should, still fold your clothes the way you did in boot, walk on the starboard side of a hallway, carry things in your left hand, insist n getting a Navy regulation haircut, Look people straight in the eye and say yes ma'am, yes sir when you go to the store, you don't MIND waiting in lines, getting shots and blood drawn doesn't phase you, and you take pride in how you look when you go out to the movies, dinner, theme parks....The Navy has given me some hard habits I just can't break :)

Patience is the skill I appreciate the most. Standing in a line that stretches from the mess deck to the middle of the hanger deck will teach patience. Just about everyone had a paperback to read. This was before the digital revolution. I read a lot of books on the way to chow.

The navy ruined my sleep. 2 am. Hands to action stations, hands to action stations, hands to action stations. Everything else is so true, 7 years out and i still shovel food in. The similarities between habits of USN and Royal Australian Navy sailors are identical hahaha.

Sleep anywhere? At Great Lakes When I had compartment watch in the middle of the night I would lean against the wall place the rifle barrel in the pit of my stomach and could sleep lightly standing. Sleep anywhere? When I was aboard the Kitty Hawk, CIC would launch the ready 5 bird in the middle of the night. My rack was right below the waist cat where the shuttle hit the stop. Wham! It woke me up but I was able to fall back asleep right away.

The sleeping fact made me laugh. I have no clue if I could sleep through a jet landing, but I have a hard time if there's no noise. I feel as if it's too quiet. But I know from experience, ever since I was a kid, I'm a heavy sleeper. I can sleep through water being poured on me. I can sleep through gun shots going off. Ironically though, all it takes to wake me is just one or two nudges.

I was in the Corps and can relate. Sleeping anywhere and instantly. My wife would comment that when I got into bed I would sometimes fall asleep sitting up before I could even lay down.
