I read somewhere that putting panty hose around the vacuum filter works wonders in keeping the filter clean. I tried and it works. A Dust Deputy and panty hose keeps the filter clean and extends filter life.

I have put absolutely everything I can think of on that Worx workbench and it's still just as sturdy as the day I bought it 4 years ago. Incredible buy and it's always an arm's length away while I'm working. Keep up the great work 731, I always look forward to the new videos. You along with a few others have inspired me to start my own wood working channel on YT. Keep truckin' and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Another use for the Oscillating Multi Tool: I have used mine to go through roots when digging a hole using a post hole digger. If I hit a significant tree root, it's hard to get to get lopper more than a few inches deep in the hole. The oscillating multi tool makes quick work of it.

Got the Fein Multimaster several years ago. Loud as he)). Have used it mostly for household/rehab stuff like woodwork, moldings, corners, tile work, flooring stuff, grinding out nailheads, etc. Finally realized it could come in quite handy in the shop.... with just a little more finesse shall we say. Did I mention it is loud as he)) on high rpm - but that's why God invented ear protection I guess. Thanks for another great practical vid .

1:42 I just replaced my green Bosch Advanced Multi 18V with a blue Bosch GOP 18V-36 (or 38, don't quite remember the number) to get access to the longer Starlock Plus blade attachments. Used the new one saturday for a project where I needed a blade longer than what the weak green one couldn't take. I wish Bosch would make a cordless one that can take Starlock Max. The great thing about Bosch's locking mechanism, is that you just push the attachment on and it locks in place. The attachment is released by simply pulling the release lever, and it's off. I've been trying to convince myself to get some of those Bessey clamps for a while now. It brobably won't be long before I buy them. Probably go for 3 or 4 of the 40" (100cm) ones.

I would highly recommend getting the dust bag for your ridgid vac. I recently found out about them, and it keeps the suction of my ridgid at max. I also haven’t had a need to clean the filter for over a month now. The bag and filter combo really keeps the super fine dust in.

Adding to that, you can use a HEPA filter and a HEPA bag in the shop vac without it filling up so quickly. The filter itself seems to last forever this way.

The other item you can acquire is a bag that Rigid sells to go into your shop vac. I use one in my 12 gallon Rigid cyclone and the filter is always spotless. I am surprised how well the Rockler separator works. There have been other reviews that said that it collected some dust but there was still a substantial amount going into the shop vac. So, you saved yourself a couple of thousand dollars on a Jet or Oneida unit. The nice thing about your Festool unit is that it is HEPA rated. I have mine hooked up to my lathe to collect the fine dust from sanding. That stuff is nasty. You might also consider an air filter that works on the shop as a whole. Both Wen, and Jet make them. I leave my on the built in timer for a couple of hours after a session at the lathe. Thanks and take care and stay safe!!

If you like parallel clamps you'll love Dubuque bar clamps. Superior in every way EXCEPT reach. For panel glue ups they're king. Eventually you'll dump that Dust Right separator. I ran that exact setup for years, but after a while the vac filter started getting clogged up again. Light shavings, from the planer or hand plane, still made it's way to the vac. I switched to a mini-cyclone on top of a 35 gallon drum and haven't looked back. Eventually you'll get a real dust collector for the large tools too...it's worth it, even if you go with the Harbor Freight.

The oscillator or multitool is super useful for a lot, but I mainly used mine to flush cut the bottom of door jams when installing flooring so the flooring slides under with minimal gap. Just use a cutoff of the flooring and you can set the saw on top to get it exact every time.

Parallel clamps are critical, but even if you had the budget you wouldn't replace all of your clamps of all sizes with them because they are so heavy. Clamp choices are about ergonomics, and parallel clamps are the big guns for large and accurate joins. Bessey does make light, relatively cheaper parallel clamps for more everyday tasks, the Uniklamp, and I would highly recommend getting some in 6in/12in/18in sizes. One other thing to remember when choosing sizes is that for clamps, particularly better clamps, is that you're paying much more for the heads than for the bar. For example, at one site now the Bessey KRE 12in is $58, 24in is $63, 31in is $68, many more levels including 60in is $78, up to 98in at $106. You're not paying a lot more for a little extra length. But again, clamps are also about ergonomics. Because of the price here it's best to not leave yourself a little short and have a slightly heavier clamp when you are budget limited. I personally would usually recommend going with something over 24 in because I find that 2 feet is a size that's common and you'll find yourself trying to clamp something that's 24 in but really 24 and 1/4 inches and you can't deal with it.
@ugaladh
@ugaladh 3 жыл бұрын
One thing most videos don't mention about Parallel Clamps is that ( at least on Bessey), they can be used as a spreader by removing and reversing the lower jaw. Most people have other spreaders, I did not, and I have used this feature many times.

The other nice thing about parallel clamps, you can use them as feet to keep a large panel vertical. For example, I was making a large cabinet and need to cut a but of loose tenon slots on the edges of the carcass. I find it more comfortable to work upright, so I used two parallel clamps on the floor, slid in the panel, and clamped down.

@@731Woodworks It helps me a great deal because you describe some of the same challenges that we share and then provide a good quality solution. Nobody likes to get a tool just to find out that it doesn’t work well or money has been wasted. You eliminate that risk for me and I greatly appreciate it! For starting out, I recommend black& decker max matrix. It is a drill(wire or batt power version, I got both) but the drill part comes off and you can have a jigsaw, router, Oscillating Multi-Tool Attachment, impact driver, hammer drill, circular saw, it also can come with a portable work station depending on the kit you buy, and other attachment. Highly recommend for under $200 you get a lot of tools in a small form factor.

I've been on disability since 2013 and I was on prescription meds for 18 years and when I tried when I was trying for my disability, I realized then I was addicted to the pain pills. So now I've come off of them and it's been a long road 2 years sober from pain pills, 10 years sober from alcohol, and finally living on my own place. I live in a 10x16 shed with no power or running water, so I took up woodworking, everything in here from my dresser to my ladder to my shoebox to my barn style stool is because of you and your wife. I'm on disability so I don't have a lot of money so I'm constantly having to use refurbished wood I find laying around, I go there's a shopping center like a quarter of a mile from me I'll walk to in a tear apart pallets and drag home it usually takes me all day to get one broke down and brought home so I can work on something the next day but by God I do it. And I'm watching your five needed tools I can only afford to buy one cool thing a month I got a chop saw last month and this month I'm not sure it's between a leaf blower or a table saw LOL kind of not a lot of room in this little building so I built on an attachment workshead you should see it it's a piece. But I just wanted to say thank you you're like my hero and the only man in this world I love because I'm gay hahaha tell the wife it's meant nothing but in a friendly way. So again thank you you've made a big impact on my life so you can tell your kids one day you save one's life. Keep up the good work and please don't ever stop making videos!!!!!!!

My only problem with that dust collector is you're 1/3 of the way to the cost of a decent entry level dust collector. I can see it being good for small shops that are tight on space, but I feel if you have the space, you'll get much better performance out of a big collector.

I absolutely agree with you. Every one of those tools would make a great addition to any shop. I really want those Bessey clamps, but I have to sell my wife first. I love her too much to do that. LOL. Until my money arrives, I have been making do with Harbor Freight clamps and the Ridgid Dust Topper (no wheels). I have two Kreg Mobile Project Centers which are similar, and more money than the Worx, but have more flexibility. The new Ridgid multi tool is great. I hate having to unscrew the bolt on my Dremel to change anything.

Love the video. One thing, I have given up using parallel clamps. I understand how they work but no matter what I do, I can not get them to tighten. I will push them together and screw the handle until I can't turn it anymore and the clamps are barely tight or loose enough to just fall off. I have tried many ways of doing it and they just don't work for me. These are bessy clamps too. I now use rockler bar clamps. It can't be that hard to get parallel clamps to clamp.

I had to learn how to use these things. Make sure before you clamp something together that you fully 'unscrew' the handle. Then when you close the clamp up on the pieces you want to hold together, you have "all the screw room" to then turn the handle and snug it up. At one point I had 6 clamps and all were "screwed" or "unscrewed" (sorry - I can't think of a better term) at random spots. Once I figured that out, these clamps became my best friends!! Know what I mean? :-)

@@LYTOMIZE_Woodshop thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I do unscrew the clamps all the way. I think my problem is how to position the bottom of the locking mechanism (push it in or out). I am sure it's me because so many people swear by parallel clamps, it has to be operator error. But since I bought a bunch of the rockler bar clamps, I just haven't forced myself to go back and try the parallel clamps again.

OK, I now stand corrected. I decided that my issue with parallel clamps must be my fault. I pulled some out, look closely how I was using them and found what I was doing wrong. I now have a panel glued up and clamped with parallel clamps. I am now a convert😁
