I was an auto mechanic for over 40 years, I also did structural body repair as well; so I welded my share of metal, but now that I'm disabled and no longer to work as a mechanic, I really enjoy woodworking, and if I need to make a tool like a pallet buster for example, I can piece together a pipe and a few pieces of metal like forks, and I saved myself $75 for the same pallet buster people make and sell. I'm going to build myself a homemade lathe instead of going out and dropping a couple grand on a huge beast I can't afford and have no room for either. My welding skills will play a huge part in making the chisel rest and maybe the head and tail stock depending on what materials I decide to make it with and what materials I can scare up. I enjoy your videos, as they point out things I might miss at Harbor Freight that I need.

Yup!! You are 100% correct. HF may not have the big name stuff, but in my case, as a weekend wood worker, they are good enough for me. Many of the things that I have purchased at HF have lasted me years. When I Hit the Lotto maybe I'll buy some fancy name stuff,,,,,nah,,,I'll save my fortune for the grand kids.

Obviously if you are in a pinch or only need a few then HF flap discs and abrasive wheels are a good deal. Benchmark Abrasives is incredible for flap disc and abrasive cut off wheel.

I watched all of your other videos on this and I was just WAITING on that guide bushing set! I have been eyeballing it for some time. With that said I bought my first set of dado blades there and they’re a good way to just get started. No bad at all really.

Got my guide bushings back when they came in a plastic case. Now when I screw up the bushing, I just buy the replacement set.

Magnets make pretty good stud finders. A finished wall usually has drywall mud on it before it's painted, so nails and screws are covered. I slide a rare earth magnet along where I think there's a stud and it sticks over top of a nail. After that its easy to mark a stud location.

I worked in a school where the former Robotics teacher had bought equipment for classes (he was/is independently wealthy) and one of the things purchased (possibly by him, not sure) was a dremel from Harbor Freight. It wasn’t the greatest dremel, but it was cordless and did what you needed it to do. Only downside was the battery didn’t last long, but it was also at least 2 years old

I have found that the rectangular magnets work well for floor pick up items. Screws, nails, nuts bolts... I tie some sort of string on them, and usually use them after sweeping the floor. You'd be surprised what you might find in a pile of sawdust.

I am a professional classic car restorer, I have been using Diablo air hoses for the life of my shop. Other then that I use a multitude of HF tools at the shop and at home. The tools that crapped out on me in time were usually the 40 dollar and under tools, easy to accept. Seems like a lot of people feel like if something doesn’t have a certain brand on it, it just doesn’t work, that definitely not true. HF tools are an option in some cases

Not hot on HFT's sandpaper. Bauer is okay for the price, especially if it's on sale or you have a coupon. Check out Project Farm's video on comparing sandpaper. Bauer did well but wasn't the best.

I buy their real low grit sheets (60, 80, etc) when they are on sale for one use easy to throw away stuff, like removing rust from a pole, bark remnants from a tree limb, or paint. Then I'll use better quality to clean up.

I know ive commented on your previous videos and let me preface by saying i am not a welder i am a blacksmith but i have that same welder got at a parking lot sale for $99 it has been an absolute workhorse for me however it doesnt weld for shit with harbor freight wire get the .035 flux core Lincoln wire and it does the job just fine for many light duty projects ... And you are 100% correct the most expensive tools dont mean shit without the skill to wield them... Look at 300-400 year old furniture that has stood the test of time made with tools crafted by the wood worker or village blacksmith from admittedly low quality iron and steel...they didnt have power tools they didnt have fancy steel chisels and cast iron body planes or powered lathes they did everything the hard way.... Oh and those flap discs? Ive been using the warrior discs for years on wood and metal they work just as well as their big brand competition at 1/4 the price ...ive started buying other brand discs in bulk cause i go through so many and my closest hf is an hour away... But if you want a strictly wood working tool disc the hf chainsaw carving disc is a bargain and a wood eating scary sumbitch to use but ive plunge cut ply wood with it with ease along with some heavy material removal carving tasks on their drill master $10 angle grinder

Carpenter for 40 years. Had a church to remodel needed small jackhammer could buy 2 good one or 5 from Harboufreight for less than the 2 good one. Can't remember price was a while ago. Couldn't get the good one for 2 weeks . Bought the 5 used them destroyed one on the job. 25 years later I still have 2 of them they still work great. Worth the price . Used by day labors they would have destroyed the best ones... plus by having 5 of them put more men using them work finished fast. Anyone says you don't know wood if you use harborfrieght. Never worked in production contracting. I've built mansions in Palm Beach. Bridges, high rises, and 1000s of homes. My personal tools are usually the best but when a job needs finished and you supply special tools to your men many times harbourfrieght wins the day and the contract. Too many KZbin never worked in the construction field. They build in small shop creating contents. Not real world work.

Skip the Chicago Electric Flux 125 and go straight to the Titanium Easy Flux 125. The CE model is an AC welder, not super powerful, and it has terrible penetration. I converted mine to DC, which improves the penetration enough to make it usable. That cost about $50:in parts and a bunch of time. The DC conversion project was kinda fun. But you can spend $60 more than the CE AC unit and get the Titanium DC unit for a lot less hassle.

as someone who does a lot of welding, i have mixed feelings about the hf welder part. i have a similar no-name welder that i got for $80 (even that harbor freight name plate has a price to it) that is GREAT for those small jobs where you need to carry it somewhere that doesnt have a receptacle that will handle a high current 100v welder, let alone 220v. so, yeah, it is definitely very useful in its little niche, but its not the easiest machine to run a bead with. i think having a novice/beginner use it may just cause mor frustration and problems.

I like the t-shirt idea. When you deliver your finished product, there is very little to no chance whatsoever that they will know if you use name brand or off-brand tools to make it. Those things do not show up in the finished product. What shows up in the finished product is the skill of the person that made it. If anyone argues that with you, ask them to go to a furniture store and point out which tables and chairs were made with one brand and which ones were made with another. They won't be able to do it

I guess I gotta go back to V3. I wanna find the guy that whines about the drill/socket adapter and ask how they drive lag screws. "Not a socket...I use a wrench." Surprise, Sunshine! A wrench is not a dedicated woodworking tool, either! A well-equiped wood shop should have it's own mechanical tool kit, in my opinion. One that can be expanded to the special needs of the shop. Can't find your arbor wrench? Go grab that 7/8" combo wrench or socket and get your blade changed NOW...not next week when you find it. Belt squealing? You got the basic tools to fix it. Pliers, wrenches, sockets, punches, feeler gauges, dial indicator and dial calipers, and a dedicated to the toolbox set of screwdrivers ALL belong in your sawdust factory if you want to continue to make sawdust.
