I grew up in Columbus. Left 2 months after I turned 18. Its reputation for “friendliness” is a total joke. Try using an on-ramp for the highway, for instance. People speed up to block you from entering. (Something I never experienced while I lived in LA.). Very judgmental communities-especially the suburban communities. They talk about your hair color, your weight, the color of your car and how you raise your kids right to your face-and always with that self-righteous ‘humblebrag’ tone. I have now lived in 11 other states in the past 40 years, and never experienced the level of rudeness that I endured in Ohio. They engage in rudeness as a competitive sport with almost the same vigor as they do Ohio State football-which incidentally, is the one true local religion.

Yeah definitely the ppl in Columbus Ohio are no good. They have nothing positive about them, they are toxic and negative ppl, I live here a couple of years and never have I seen them help anybody. I also lived in other states and I've seen ppl in other states help in Baltimore Maryland how many times I have seen ppl help others there even in the check out at the grocery store or sam's club or even at the Walmart I have seen customer give money to other customer to help them pay for there grocery and that is so beautiful to see, in Florida I've seen a couple of them help even if you might say nah they don't help but eventually you will see somebody help someone in need,. In New York I've seen ppl buy food for the homeless back then I use to see the rich in the village go to the homeless and seat with them and try to understand how they got to that point and help pay for there food so beautiful 🥺 and even some I've seen they are workers who have money and see a homeless or a poor person sitting in the McDonald's and all of a sudden you see them purchase food from the menu to that person or if they see a homeless outside nearby asking for change they will say I can't give you cash but I can purchase you something from McDonald's and stuff like that and it's amazing, But Columbus Ohio ppl 🙄👎👎would never, all they know how to do is be rude and have attitude for everything.

Ok, there are two things that I can think of that Columbus Ohio has going for it: state Capitol and a major university. More often than not, it all comes down to a lack of leadership, vision and commitment to make a city stand out. Here's an idea, how about bringing another sports team to the city like baseball or an NBA franchise? Or invest in rebuilding the infrastructure that includes light rail or even "smart highways" where cars interact with sensors embedded in the roads. See, in order to attract more people to the city, it takes innovation, a willingness to make positive, needed changes and LEADERSHIP! THIS is what I would do if I moved to Columbus Ohio.

With light rail around the 270 belt. So good to see new/rehabbed housing WITHIN the City. Hilltop will be good again.. Over by Children's, East of Broad, improving for sure! And IMO Columbus doesn't merely have a World Class Zoo... instead? Columbus has the BEST Zoo in the World, bar none!

Sad Columbus is becoming one of the dirtiest Cities in US. There is a major problem in Columbus with disrespect for our City Parks. People driving and parking on the green and destroying the grounds. Tires are being discarded throughout the city in parking lots, parks and along the roadside this needs to be investigated especially along Stemil Rd on the west side. Shopping carts theft . Vehicles being driven without tags on them. Vehicles hauling junk etc not secured and falling on to roadways wood With nails and extention ladders not being secure. In the past week I have witnessed 20 foot ladders falling on the freeway from trucks on 315 south at Goodale and just this past Sunday at 70 east and 315 south exit and the driver pulls over looks and never gets out and just continues driving. Illegal dumping is a huge problem in Columbus especially at Rhodes Park. This is getting worse because the laws are not being enforced. Our leaders in the Community should be focusing on making Columbus a clean and environmentally safe city.

I’m an Asian living in NJ & planning to move to Ohio. How is the asian-hate crime rate there? And I want to know the gun laws there?
@dilloncross39963 жыл бұрын
I just started to look at NJ gun laws and holy cow is that restrictive. In Ohio you do not need a license to purchase a firearm. You simply use your state ID or drivers license and pass a background check. You are also not restricted on so-called "assault weapons." Open carry is legal but almost no one does it. Concealed carry requires a license which is issued by the sheriff's office of the county you live in. Unless you are current/former military, you'll have to pass a CCW course first, so total cost runs you around $200 for class and license. There's plenty more but that's some basics. Let me know if you have more questions. Also I don't think there's much anti-Asian sentiment, but you might want to do some research on that.
@g0d5m15t4k33 жыл бұрын
There's a pretty sizeable Asian population near the north east of Cbus. Lots of people, bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. I don't know of any specific hate crimes against Asians here. But as the other commenter said, I'd do some serious research first. But Ohio gun laws are immensely lax. I bought a shot gun in a 1 hour shopping trip at a gun shop. Listen, I love owning a firearm for target shooting. But even I was freaked out by how easy it was to get a gun. Another consideration is where you live. Some areas just have more crime than others.

I have lived in Columbus all my life as far as takeaways, yes public transportation does suck here. There has been talk about improving it over the years but nothing happens. In my experience living here riding in the bus as a little of a negative attitude around it. The weather, if you don't like the cold you don't want to come here. I do agree the past ten years of so we haven't been getting the snow as we use to, there was a time where the first major sow fall would typically come mid-Noveember today we may get that first major snowfall in January and we may go to April. We certainly have our days of bitter cold and it can become a struggle for survival when venturing out. When the warmer weather hits Ohio is beautiful. November - early to mid-April its cloudy here most of the time. Growing up it was former Governor Rhoads that said Ohio could become the OPEC of water. The annual Memorial Golf tournament that attacks major plays such as Tiger Woods always seems to get ranined out on memorial day weekend so much so that they decided to just move the dates that it gets played permanently. Entertainment? Sure the major sports scene has changed drastically since I was a kid growing up from the late 60s to late 80s. There has always been Ohio State but now we have The Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) Columbus Crew (MLS) and the Columbus Clippers (minor league baseball) they have been around since forever. However to find other types of entertainment here in Columbus you have to look for it, it wont come out and find you. Doing a Google search is not helpful either, you have to get out there and get to know the City. Shadowbox Live is Columbus's own version of Saturday Night Live and is a good example of something that is nice to go to but you won't find out about it unless you get to know the City or you run into someone like me that can point you in the right direction. Columbus does have its own 24 hour Casino and the place its huge. It's a nice place to go even if you don't gamble. Different major musical guests and restaurants are some of the things to take in. Most people that are new to Columbus that I get to talk to don't know we have a Casino. Originally it was to be built downtown but some folks changed their mind and decided to put it on the far west side out of sight of everything else. Crime? Yep, it is an unfortunate issue here and its an issue that seems to be on the rise. To solve it now will take an open relationship with the citizens, government and Police those answers won't be easy and with any major City going though a population boom we have that growing pain. Columbus is like this big small town everybody knows somebody and some of its ideas toward growth has been the same way. Years ago UPS wanted to put a major air hub down at Rickenbacker Intertational Airport which is on the City's south side. Major jobs and other industries could have been attracted by that. However the folks in the Groveport area were opposed to hit partly because they didn't want things to get to big and noisey. Luisville Ky got it instead along with a lucrative tax base, its jobs and many other great opprutunites. Rickenbacker now has other cargo airline carriers coming out of it along with a nearby cargo train station but Rickenbacker could have been much further along then what it is now. It took another generation of leaders to get where Rickenbacker is today.

Columbus Ohio is one of the worst State. People are very rude nobody there is nice unless you are Latino, Indian , Arab, Chinese, Korean, Japanese or white then you will be fine cause no one will bother you or treat you bad, But if you are black you get bothered by the black community they start problem with you for no reason at all, especially the black ghetto they start problem with black ppl who are decent, don't know what's that about, but personally it looks like a jealousy type of thing cause it makes no sense, What I've seen and notice is when you go to the store the black see another black in a aisle and they will follow them there and then shop where they are standing as if there isn't other items in the store, but if they see a Latino person in the aisle they will pass by and not dare to go in, and if the Latino enter that aisle while they are in there they will leave🤷 One time I've seen this Hindu ppl at a line in the Walmart and I was shopping by the checkout section and I was observing for a good 20 minutes and no one would go there to the line behind them. The black would look there but then proceed to go to another line 😂😂 then I saw a white lady who I thought she would stand behind them, and she had a lot of plants in her cart she looked at them the Hindu in the line and was like nope and made a turn with her cart back to the other line where she past by before which had a long line and I was like huh? And others would do the same to those Hindu. So I got feed up and lined up behind them with my family and we are black and then as soon as we lined up behind them then guess what? The ppl that had passed by before went to stand right behind us 🤷 like wtf I was beyond livid 😤 like come on why no body wanted to stand behind them, is not like if they were even going to bite🙄 Columbus ppl are rude I never see anyone being nice or helpful. When I first moved to Columbus ohio I thought the ppl would be cool like other States but is not like that. Some of the white ppl were on the racist side and would look at you weird and stuff but now things are changing a little some are now being with the black, but even like that some do some shady stuff like I will see them be with a black person but then be still be given those certain stare to other black and I've seen them do some other stuff but I won't say but I call that selective racism where they accept some and not the other, and sometimes I would see they accept the black ghetto over a black person who is decent which I don't get 🤨 but ok 🤷? And then they try to act ghetto like them 😂 really weird. But whatever if that's what they think accepting black means is to act ghetto, they really don't need to do that just be yourself and still be cool with black that's all. But that not a big problem. The biggest problem is the black hating and being envious to other blacks😤 is sad and ridiculous bc why would you do that? Instead of being nice to eachother and helping one other, they rather bother and start problem with the other black, and especially if they dress up they go over to the other black and start nonsense. I don't know if they are looking for validation or if they want the person to give them a compliment, BUT THAT IS NOT how you go about it. If there person acknowledge you then good, but if they don't stop trying to force them to pay attention to you, let them be and keep it moving, there not related to you so why keep pressing on them to give you that undivided attention to you it is very annoying and weird. Further more there are black ppl in many states and many countries and the blacks in other states or countries do not bother other blacks, only in Columbus Ohio is where I've seen the black ppl act very weird. And is not the African they are cool👍 and the Latino, Hindu, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese are ok👍 but the black Americans from Columbus Ohio I don't get what's going with them🤷🤷🤷 Like I said before it would be nice if the black would treat all blacks nice, and smile and not bother and not start problem with eachother for no reason and not be envious, and treat each other with respect and kindness that would be so awesome to see.

First of all he's probably earning in the high 6 figures tax bracket!! And he probably lives in some $400K high rise super exclusive , gated high security condominium in Columbus. He probably drives a high end Mercedes or BMW or some expensive SUV, and has never stepped foot on a dirty, ghetto COTA bus!!! And I don't blame him!! Subway or light rail!! No Way!! Those Republicans would never, ever pay for that!! And nobody that works and pays taxes would vote for it!! Keep Dreaming!! The city bus routes are restricted on purposes!! To keep the inner city people and white trash drug opioid drug addticts within the inner city and trailer parks!! Why would he be remotely concerned about taxes?! He's probably near the 1% crowd and can easily pay state, federal and any sales taxes in that horrible place! That's probably why he moved there in the first place!! And I'm almost 100% sure when that sh!tty Ohio weather starts, he jumps on a plane to his winter home in LA or Florida and doesn't return until late spring or early summer! He left out one particular thing about Columbus, Ohio... The racist, trigger happy police 🚔 !! I went Ohio State as a undergrad in the 1990s!! And I quickly realized, I had no future there!! I put that "Cow Town" in my rear view mirror, back in 2003 and only returned for my father funeral in 2012. Columbus Ohio is straight garbage 🗑!! Grew up and still live in UA and work in downtown. The greater Cols area is a good place to live. There are good school districts (suburbs), plenty of shopping, restaurants, night life,and sporting events. I bet if you talked with average folks in Denver, LA, or Miami, the time spent on the beach, or hiking and skiing the mountains is minimal. They spend their time working, caring for their home, school, church, or just day to day life, the same as we do in this area. Crime is up, but mostly in Columbus proper. Naturally with nearly total democrat rule since 2000, quality of life goes down, just like every other large metropolitan area. Still the best city in Ohio by far.

Columbus is very diverse. It's still growing, especially downtown. If you're looking to move downtown, there's tons of beautiful spots with city views at apartments for a decent price. There's crime, but there's crime everywhere. Food scene is great, tons of options. I've been here for 13 years and the only thing I really don't like is the weather. It's gloomy and can be bipolar (you can experience all four seasons in one week.) 😂 Plenty of jobs available particularly in healthcare, IT and the food industry. I would say it's a great city for families especially the Worthington and Dublin area. Buses only for public transportation. TONS of restaurants/bars but celebrities rarely come to Columbus for concerts. They usually go to Cincinnati or Dayton. Ppl are a little behind here from a fashion standpoint. The malls in Columbus are OKAY. Overall, Columbus isn't Miami, it's not Montana either lol. It's pretty laid back. Video is 💯% accurate.

@@locturallylocs9097 Your comment is insinuating that Americans barley have to let go of their hard earned money just because our mere income taxes percentage wise is lower then yours over in Europe. There are way many more factors into cost of living then just taxes. If everything here costs more, and there are more services we have to have in order to live daily life, then having less taxes means nothing. We don't have the universal welfare services other 1st world nations have, we'd rather pay for some of those things ourselves, thus it lowers taxes because that money isn't being taken for those services, but it's still going into those services from our hard earned money cause we still need to pay for them for ourselves. If your tax rate is 49% and mine is 7% but the rest of my cost of living takes an extra 42% of my money, then it doesn't matter because in the end we'd be both losing 49% of what we make. Now if we had a 49% tax rate and still didn't have welfare services then that would be another story.
@locturallylocs90972 жыл бұрын
@@in-textbaptist4947 well my point is that I don't agree our cost of living is that much lower in Europe. Despite our higher taxes literally everything is more expensive too? Name one thing in life that is cheaper in Western- Europe than the US? Healthcare and other Social services doesn't count because as you said that's where most of our taxes goes to. But aside from that what part of life in Western Europe is cheaper than the US? Especially compared to states like Ohio. Housing? Feul? Gas? Entertainment? Nope. So yes aside from the huge amount of tax a big chunck of our income also goes to cost of living. Oké, we won't go bankrupt from a cancer treatment like Americans do, but if you've been paying 49% incometax all your life that's only fair😉
@in-textbaptist49472 жыл бұрын
@@locturallylocs9097 you removed the exact factors that make up the difference. We have to pay for Healthcare here in America. You probably don't. We have to pay for higher education here, you probably don't. There's no universal tax funded programs here, there's just some bare minimum welfare for the poorest of the poor. That makes all the difference between cost of living in America and cost of living in other 1st world countries, you can't just say those don't count as cost of living just because in your country that cost is paid under the name of a tax, that doesn't change that its a service you pay for, you just pay for it through the government instead of private insurances or businesses.

As a lifelong Columbus resident (50+ years), I think you've touched on some of the worst of what it means to live in this city; however, more context is needed. Taxes are for services. Two areas where the city lacks the most are schools and police. Columbus City Schools are abysmal and have been for decades. Likewise, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) is understaffed for the number of people living here. Unfortunately, the force is shrinking in size while more people are coming. Anyone considering a move to Columbus needs to research crime and education statistics. There are some wonderful suburbs that may be better options depending on what you're looking for. This video was about Columbus, so it's important to make that distinction. Another point to clarify is that there are plenty of things to do around CENTRAL Ohio. As mentioned, we have four seasons. It stands to reason you won't be water skiing in February, but there are tons of metro parks to do winter hikes. Alum Creek, Hoover Reservoir and Buckeye Lake afford plenty of opportunities for summer water activities. Columbus has a pretty decent art museum as well as a science museum. We have MLS and NHL teams and one of the nicest ballparks for our minor league baseball team. There's more than enough to do all year as long as your expectation isn't to be in warm sunny weather every day. It's funny to hear people complain about how difficult it is to get around town. It makes me wonder where they've lived previously. Columbus is definitely car-centric, but I still think traffic is pretty minimal. I've been in multiple online arguments about why we don't have a better transportation system. We apparently don't have enough density to warrant it, although we're the 14th largest city in the country.

The African are not the only black ppl to speak a different language there are many different culture where black ppl speak different languages. And if there are culture in Columbus Ohio then they should know this and not assume things that are not even true 🤷 which is ridiculous to me, cause big cities that have many culture and know of the many types of culture where black ppl speak of different languages, they know not to come out such crazy assumption, like I have encounter in Columbus Ohio.

I'm from Columbus, born there, lived there many years. It is the 3rd largest state capitol (after Phoenix and Austin) and it should be investing more money into transit as a world-class city ought to. I also lived in Charlotte NC, exactly the same population as Columbus, but growing more rapidly. They invested in a train and it's booming - more lines will soon be built there. And their bus system isn't bad either. The best parts of the Columbus area to live in are the suburbs, especially the inner and older (but constantly evolving) areas such as Bexley, Grandview, Upper Arlington and Worthington, and the Columbus neighborhoods of Clintonville, Berwick, and the Henderson-Bethel Road areas. Avoid at all costs the West/South Sides, Linden, near East Side, Hamilton Road, and anything east of Interstate 71 in the north end.

When you claim that the public transit system "sucks" in Columbus, what metric are you applying to make that determination? The public transit system in Columbus will take you to any neighborhood in Columbus, most generally with multiple stops. As for the transit system not reaching far enough into the outer suburbs (which are most all cities in their own right, and on average, considerably more affluent than Columbus is) that says more about the outer suburbs than it does about Columbus or it's own respective transit system. Do you suppose the residents of Muirfield with their average six figure incomes deserve to have the city of Columbus pay so that their affluent area be more accessible to mass transit or is that more of a problem that should be addressed using Muirfield tax dollars to service their own high income areas? We (Columbus residents) already fund the world famous 'Muirfield City Zoo' with Columbus tax dollars, so should we also pay for what should be their responsibility, when it comes to mass transit or lack thereof in their rich neighborhoods? And yes, I already know that it is not called the 'Muirfield City Zoo', but just the same, the Columbus Zoo resides in Muirfield Ohio and is funded by the tax dollars of Columbus residents, who on average make considerably less money than those who reside in Muirfield or any of the other more affluent suburbs of Columbus. Other than my sympathies being with Columbus residents who rely upon mass transit to commute to work and back in the suburbs, I really couldn't care less about mass transit in those richer cities (suburbs) that border Columbus.

Tornados? How big of a concern is it in Columbus? Like, how often does your typical person see one?

Been here 24 years have never seen a tornado

@@famousshooters3274 it's not discouraging me, it's just like to be informed as to what to expect. I was caught in a tornado while camping in NY. Flipped the camper upside down. Scary af, but I think sometimes people hollywoodify the experience for better or for worse.

What about culture though? When you were talking about not having much to do you only mentioned nature, but what about theater, the art scene, film festivals, etc.?

This is what I came here to find out too.

Cbus is a blue dot in a red state. It's far more progressive and gay than any other city in Ohio. There are a boat load of festivals downtown. My favorites are Asian Festival, PRIDE, Community Festival, Art Festival, Oktoberfest. Our art museum is ok, not great or terrible. The Ohio Theater is gorgeous for theatrical events.

@@g0d5m15t4k3 Do you have film festivals though, do they come to Columbus? I also discovered the Breakaway Festival (electronic music), and it actually had some performers I know and love this year, I was just too scared to go during COVID.

@@Deci_Bella Yed actually we do get some film festivals. We have a couple of theaters that regularly do some non-mainstream movie events as well. The Gateway theater has hosted HUMP! Film Festival. I also recommend Studio 35 (which hosts Rocky Horror Picture Show). There are 2 Drexel theaters that show more artsy films and host sci-fi film marathons.

@@g0d5m15t4k3 *Hump* festival? Nah, I meant international film festivals - French cinema, Italian cinema, etc. But never mind, I get the picture.
