Leaving Tallahassee for Ohio in about a week. No alligators, no fire ants, no hurricanes, better house for less money, nice soft grass, fireflies and 4 seasons. All awesome reasons to leave

As someone whos looking to move to Cbus from Florida, you are VERY spot on. The population is mostly focused on the coasts and Orlando area , and since those are the actual places people WANT to visit , during tourist season the population feels like it doubles and traffic becomes horrible from Late October to Late March. People think "Floridians are bad drivers" when its just a bunch of transplants. Youre also right about North Florida being way more spread out, North Florida IS "THE SOUTH". Housing in Columbus is more affordable and reasonable than ANY and i mean ANY city in Florida that has decent paying jobs. Good video

I grew up in Cleveland, lived in South Florida for close to a decade, and spent most of my adult life in California. When I retired, I wanted affordability and cultural amenities. I didn't want a lot of pestilential heat and humidity, or the threat of devastating hurricanes. As a retiree, I can deal with just staying indoors if it's cold and snowy. Cleveland over Florida was the clear choice. In four years, not a minute of regret.

Moved from Ohio to Florida and couldn’t imagine living in Ohio again. Weather in Ohio is terrible for us. From hot summer to brutal cold with very little good days in the spring and fall. Always raining, dark gray weather all winter, everything looks dead. Florida - few hot months for amazing weather the rest of the year. We still haven’t had the heat on this fall and sleeping with the windows open. Fishing and outdoor activities all year, foods amazing, wildlife is awesome to see. So much life everywhere. It’s just clean and refreshing. Sunshine really does something good for you. Although I do consider both states home. You were correct with housing cost but that’s just been since covid. I also couldn’t imagine living in Orlando, Tampa or Miami. Just too many people. Both states have plenty to offer just depends what your looking for. Take care!

There one other reason why people are moving to Ohio. The Rust belt is the safest place in the U.S.A from climate change. Because the Rust belt has the Great Lakes up in the north and the Appalachian mountains at east and south.

I also left Florida after 20 years and moved back to my home state of Ohio. Best decision I ever made. It's nice to be back in a small town, and winter wasn't really bad at all. I enjoyed it actually. Autumn is the best and summer here hasn't been very hot at all. Florida was okay when I was younger and it wasn't so expensive, and I do miss the ocean. But I can always go for a visit. I don't miss all the code enforcement, cops and southern courts...and hurricanes. It's really nice to be home.

I have lived in Orlando for the last ten years, and I moved back to Ohio in October. Florida is ungodly hot in the summer. It's like living inside your mouth. It's like taking a shower and not drying off all summer. Traffic in Orlando was horrible. People are rude. There is no sense of community, and no one knows how to drive. I do miss the theme parks and driving 80 mph everywhere. Lol. Not to mention, i made out like a bandit on selling my house down there! Good luck if you choose to move there.

That said, insurance is insanely expensive and the summer has been ungodly hot. Oh...and it sucked taking the trash out recently and a 4 ft snake was hanging out in the garbage can waiting for me to open the lid. Pros and cons to both. I've lived in Florida for 26 years and it feels like it just gets hotter and hotter every year. The cost of living is so high, especially here in Naples. There are high rises going up in every direction because of the amount of people that have moved here, especially post Covid. The "winter" here is the only nice time of the year, but that only lasts 3 months or so. The rest of the year feels like you're walking into an oven and the humidity makes you feel sticky as soon as you step outside. My job is offering a move to Columbus, OH with a nice relocation bonus and I don't have to think twice. I'm so excited. My dad lives in Cincinnati and I've always thought Ohio is a nice place to live. I can't wait to experience seasons and not have to spend 60% of my paycheck on a roof over my head.

I moved from Ohio in 2011 for Florida, and now live in the Tampa Bay area. I would say for most people choosing to move back to Ohio, they're probably pretty weather agnostic. In other words, Sunny skies and warm winter does not matter to them. But I'm definitely not whether agnostic, and I can't stand gray skies, lack of leaves on trees and overall the gloom of 6 months of winter. I smile when I look outside and see the green leaves on the trees outside of my window in my birth month of January, as well as looking forward to the 80° this weekend in which case I probably will have a barbecue. But, if I were weather agnostic and only driven by economics, then Ohio will win. But my happiness comes from the tropics and the beauty I see in flowers, green life and trees rather than gray skies and cold days.

You can't classify "Ohio Weather" . Cleveland has lake effect snow and a lot of it. Columbus does not but does have some relatively cold days in the winter. Here in Cincinnati, we don't have a lot of snow and the temperatures are a lot more moderate than most of the state. Our summers easily compete with those of sourth Florida though.

I want to return to Ohio but one thing that’s stopping me is Ohio’s property tax rules. Here in Flori-duh our property taxes cannot go up more than 3 percent a year. I have a friend in Columbus who has seen hers double. Ohio needs to fix that now, not later. Also many municipalities in Ohio charge an income tax on top of Ohio and federal taxes. Property insurance costs in Florida, the increasingly hotter and more humid weather and snow bird traffic is what is driving people out of Florida. And it’s flat and ugly.

Were leaving Boca Raton Fla for Columbus Oh area in the next week. Career related. Ill miss the warm winters, and being only 5 min to the beach. However....i wont miss the cost of living here, the traffic, the rude snowbirds, the rain everyday from april thru october, the high cost of insurance, car, home and health. The high cost of gas, groceries, etc. Yes there is no income tax, howver, you will pay more out in all the above mentioned things, than what the tax in ohio is on the same salary. Example...3250 for a 2 bedroom 1 bath house (circa 1950), car insurance for 2 cars, 350 per month, rental insurance, $65 PER month, gas at 3.30, tolls to get anywhere at a decent clip, water bill is higher than electricity, electricity rates just increased by 4%. Unless you have a great career, making good money, dont think about south florida. Working retail wil lget you the hood, or tent rental. I know many who live 2 families together. Paradise is nice to visit, but not to live and go broke for. See ya soon ohio...Florida, i will visit you.

If I had to choose between Tampa or Columbus it will have to be Tampa. Housing may be cheaper but you can’t pay me enough to deal with cold weather that lasts over 6 months. Summer is my absolute favorite season when I was living in Ohio and I was always wishing it lasted longer. Since I moved to Tampa, my “summers” are longer. Great video though. Or do both (if you can) and have a place in OH and a place in FL! Snowbird! The only thing you mentioned that really applies to my FL location is the prolonged stifling summer heat (100 days/year over 90 degrees). Most of that other stuff only applies in the traditional coastal areas and/or really big metros of FL. My taxes and cost of living are actually much higher in Columbus suburbs than FL (and no state income tax in FL as long as you live the majority time in FL!). Also, the FL homes get one of the best homestead exemptions in the US (saves on taxes and provides legal protection).

Man, Florida is amazing and all with the theme parks, restaurants and beaches but, I hate living here man, like, I literally have to deal with rampant rudeness, uncomfortable hot weather daily, mosquitos every dry season, and outright just living in a huge boomer dumping ground, I used to live in Ohio starting from birth until a year later when my mom dragged my ass down here. When I graduate highschool, which I'm almost a senior btw, I'll go to trade school, get enough money, practice living on my own in Cape Coral, then move to either Virginia or back to Ohio. At least in both these states from my experience, people are kind, even in the most sketchy ass areas like Cleveland for example, both have a superior job market and full of opportunities, so it could help me, both have four seasons, have some interesting history, and have some cool cities, which Columbus is on the list of areas I'd relocate to.

Ya winters are nice but its been to hot even in winter. You cant do anything outside. You grab your mail and your sweating. You dont see alligators that often. I had one baby alligator on my door step christmas eve. But fire ants and spiders and rattle snakes and frogs that should be in a zoo are in your yard. A house with land in florida in my area is 1 million versus 500k in ohio. Give or take. Sunshine is expensive and there a saying down here once you live here the longer you do the less you go to the beach. I loved it at first and now if i go once or twice a year. There’s nothing to do here, the entire world is here on vacation all the time and because we need their money.. we put up with their stupidity and entitled behavior! Takes you 3 hours to go 12 miles down the road because everyone thinks they can make it through every yellow light. There no culture in this city at all. Look up how many thousands of people die because of cold weather related incidents. From car crashes to exposure to the cold, more people die because of that weather condition in the United States than hurricanes. Things have to be put in perspective.

Florida is nice for the elderly, people already retired or if you’re wealthy , but for the middle working class trying to buy a home and better their financial life , is not . At least in the Orlando area the businesses depend on seasons , when there’s holidays , tourists come and there’s work for you, off season , people got back to their home state ( or country ) and everyone gets their hours cut off , everything you saved from when it was busy, you have to spend it to cover all your living costs until next peak season hits and it’s a never ending cycle . Bad state for younger people trying to succeed in life .

I honestly don’t know anyone in their right minds that would leave FLORIDA for OHIO though 😂

I hate the heat so I would NEVER move to Florida. That being said I have to reflect on the comment he made regarding people willing to roll the dice with respect to home owner insurance - not a good idea if the home is located in an area known for hurricanes.

Well, so many people are not moving to Ohio from Florida. Not sure where you get that information from. Are people that moved back to their home state because of family obligations or other economic reasons. Otherwise, statistically in 1960 when I was born there were 8 million people in the state of Florida and today we’re heading over 23 million. That does not indicate people moving out at a very large pace.

I've been to Florida about 8 times a few were extended to remodel , flip or build homes anywhere from Clearwater to Panama. I'm not impressed. Panama would be my choice if necessary. My ex wife moved to Sarasota and after about 3 months my son said he was moving to Florida to be closer to his mother. I told my wife he'd be back in a year. He called me 6 weeks later and asked me to wire him money to come back home to Canal Winchester ohio. Im looking to buy property or flip homes in Groveport, Canal,Pickerington, Lithopolis, west Lancaster, east pickaway county.

Hi, that single person here. Our beaches are overrated and usually full of trash and even trashier drunk tourists. Humidity sucks ass. Rude snowbirds who can’t drive will make you hate people. Hurricanes can be annoying at best and devastating at worst. Housing and rent is getting absolutely outrageous, selling an arm and a leg to live inside a shoebox. It has its pros sure, but for myself the cons outweigh it majorly.

Not many people are leaving Florida for Ohio lol. ALOT more people are coming to Florida than the people leaving 😂 Florida just surpassed 23 MILLION residents. And the ENTIRE Northern part of Florida is considered “empty” with 85% of the residents in Florida living in Central or South Florida. The Hurricanes aren’t even that bad. Certainly gets overblown by the media.

Ohio sounds good until you get that lovely 6-7 months of winter. Plus, don't forget that beautiful gloomy summer with rain every 3 days and wonder why people are so depressed.
