Door handle is very old tech What is the point of retractable ones? Aero? Luxury cars very poor quality because they symbols of success not used only for transport. The biggest problem with that market is people are tolerant of failure after failure. Entry level cars tend to be better made.

I test drove one and did take note that you just about don't need the mirrors between the cameras and the situational screen that shows everything around the vehicle. I imagine the plan is to push for the removal of the regulations if you can offer a suitable replacement system.

For those in the middle class in our late 50's / early 60's, many older used cars teens could afford from the 60's and 70's were just HORRIBLE cars. LOTS and LOTS of problems. To many of us, reliability became paramount, and the likes of Toyotas at reasonable prices became a GODSEND.

Bought a 2014 P85 about 3 months ago. So far this has failed in that short time: - Drive unit (covered by Tesla) - MCU (partly covered by Tesla) - Drive unit sub frame (NOT covered by Tesla and this was expensive) - 12V battery (NOT covered by Tesla) - Battery heating unit (NOT covered by Tesla) - Wiring harness (NOT covered by Tesla) - Xenon bulb (NOT covered by Tesla) All in all it has already cost me about DKK 34.000 (about 5.500 USD) in repairs and it has been to the service center three times. It also seems like the battery is losing capacity rapidly so I'm wondering if Tesla will be willing replace that under warranty before it runs out a little over a year from now. What was supposed to be a dream come true is starting to look like a bit of a nightmare honestly. Edit: I forgot to mention that my rear camera also stopped working about the same the 12v battery and the dive unit went bad. This still doesn't work after Tesla fixed everything else and I got the car back from the service center.

@@per6541 You are right. However, in fairness my Model S P85 has still been cheaper than a new Model 3 SR+ (even counting in the repairs to date) and it's a bigger car that feels more premium inside. So even though the gamble didn't pay off well as I had hoped all is not that terrible either. But of course the worry is whether it quickly will be if it keeps breaking down at that rate.

Out of the top 20 electric cars sold in Europe in 2020, only the Model 3 made the list, and it wasn't even on top. So Tesla is NOT the leader in Europe and with even more competition coming (e.g. VW) they will likely not ever top the list. Renault Zoe was #1. There is still an insane amount of hype around Tesla in North America but there are more competitors coming in 2021 so they should be concerned.

What I have to say in response is why aren't other (monopolistic) automobile manufacturers feet held to the fire as well? All the major auto manufacturers have produced absolute shitboxes from time to time. I owned a Ford Escort in the 80s and so did several of my friends. Mine was a horrible, costly, abomination while all my friends examples seemed to work fine. I live to see the extinction of ICE vehicles as I believe it's an incredibly inefficient means of transportation.

If we take a car from that age that would cost the equivalent of 80k we'd end up with a Lexus ls400, one of the best, most reliable cars in history. Now, Let's take for example a 50k Volvo xc40 recharge (the all electric one) a car wich seemed to have no reliability issues (it's a volvo at the end of the day) and has the same advantages and it's not overrated and has an actual quality interior and cost literally a new honda accord less than the tesla, so there, that's why tesla is (or rather isnt enough) judged the way it is, because it's a brand who brainwashes people into believing they have the best car in the world, when they clearly dont.

My neighbour in UK has his original mark one he just uses around his farm, an eighties Defender for hard work mainly in forestry and his 90's Rangey for everyday use. All need minimum maintenance. My son's SVR does mega high miles, 70,000 in three years and only problem has been exhaust which JLR said he'd clanked and he claimed just "suddenly went mega loud". In the end agreed 50/50 on warranty. The problems I hear about, but also apply to Peugeot and VW are particulate filter problems. Unfortunately choking up engines for emissions purposes ruins reliability and fuel efficiency. I hear on these social media threads people saying, "They're shit & unreliable " and they're all from people who have never even sat in one let alone owned them 🤦‍♂️

I heard someone once say, "Owning a Tesla is like beta testing a car." I really like the idea of a self driving vehicle. I really like the idea of an EV. I really wish Teslas were more like what they market themselves as. I think Tesla's stock is in a bubble right now. If the QC was up to industry standards, then I could believe maybe the company was worth more than $300 per share. One smart/advanced EV from GM, Ford, or whatever major car company, could actually hurt Tesla. It would likely be more reliable.

That is probably true, owing a Tesla is like beta testing a car, because there is so much beta software in there. I don't think "full self driving" will be here for quite a few years yet no matter what Elon tweets. I think Tesla's stock is overvalued too but there is a ton of hype around the company and if the stock price was based off profit and things it would absolutely be much lower. The best thing we can have going forward is better competition to Tesla like Porsche, Audi, Lexus, etc. Tesla doesn't need to have better build quality and customer service because they don't have any real competition so there is no end in sight for new customers buying their products.

I agree generally but I would say it's hard to overstate just how far ahead Tesla's batteries are, which is the most important thing. That and their fleet capability for improving Autopilot are quite valuable even if their stocks are BS. Most stocks are probs BS in one way or another though. Hopefully bringing other factories online, like their German factory, will reduce strain and improve build quality. Otherwise it's a bit wasteful having batteries that can last 500,000-1,000,000+miles, with 10% degradation, if the door handles, suspension, steering and everything aren't up expectation. Reliability was always going to take time though. Fingers crossed. I don't think Nissan Leaf owners have issues (I hope!) although the battery tech and acceleration isn't in the same league obviously. I can't see Toyota/Honda catching Tesla up with battery tech but who knows. Even recently there have been some very good scientific progress there that could help everyone catch up.

@@jamesatkins7592 Nothing special with their batteries. All the batteries are developed by another company or have known performance capabilities. Like the million mile battery which tesla wants to use which is from catl, a Chinese company that makes batteries for buses that have a 15,000 cycle life. Tesla isn't special, they just put it in a nice package like apple. Kia on the other hand adds paddles for live changing of regen which helps in everyday driving. More useful than tesla and comes with blended regen.

Had steering bolt recall done and steering would pop at extreme angles afterwards. The fix was adding a washer. I diagnosed this, had frunk tub fully disassembled when brought in and Tesla still charged me $200+ + diagnostic fee (waived after I complained). The reason for the pop is obvious due to aluminum subframe. Each bite into the brittle aluminum surface is going to weaken it. Thus washer is the fix. Pretty clear Tesla is full of amateur car engineers beyond the power train.

2014 P85 multiple failures I have a 2014 P85 with 76k miles. I have had to have all handles replaces, both rear light assemblies replaces, front sensors replaces, odometer replaced, UMC replaced 2x. In addition, motor failed at drive thru took 5 wks to repair. It had to be towed. 3 weeks later the battery failed with 58% charge, on Interstate. 95 miles from home on Sunday evening. Towed again, took 4 weeks to repair. Thank God I have extended coverage. All these things happend in last 1.5 yrs. Not sure I will buy another.

Reports on Chinese made Tesla M3s coming out are build quality has improved. Expectations are Berlin made M3s and MYs will match standards of the European market with Fremont factory to be retrofitted once the tech in Berlin has been proven. Austin made Tesla’s should be leading the build quality improvements in the US by end 2021. There’s still hope.

One of your commenters said that he had a 2013 Tesla that had problems because of "old tech." the 2017 model he subsequently purchased has new tech and is much better. My oldest car is a Toyota that I purchased new in 2002 and almost everything on it still works. It is definitely " old tech" but it still performs well without being constantly in the shop. It has over 207,000 miles on it and gets me where I am going reliably. The computer that I am viewing this video on is probably from 2013. It is "old tech" but allows me to type letters, play video games, watch videos, check e-mail etc. Just like a new ones ! I am sure that the memory and speed are down compared to a new one, but it still works well. Quit making excuses for your Teslas. They are all poorly constructed and poorly backed by a company that does not care even one little bit about you once the sale has been made.

Eh I would still avoid the S & X & Y in 2021. The 3 seems to be the most reliable but it still has battery & suspension issues. They are stopping production of the S & X right now for unspecified reasons. Some people speculate they will refresh it very soon. Either way I'm out, I'm fleeing back to Toyota & Lexus.

I’m glad to hear that. Teslas customer service has really gone downhill. I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy a Tesla without plenty of research first. Repairs are expensive, build quality isn’t up to par on new vehicles, etc. Personally I wouldn’t buy another for at least a few years to see if they can grow up as a company.

In May 2021, I finally bought a Tesla Model S! I named it "Vader". It's a Model S 60. I've replaced my drive unit, window regulator (rear passenger window), door handle motor (front passenger door, broken micro switch), all 4 tires, the windshield, and I got the eMMC upgrade. I'm my MCU replaced with MCU2 next month (Feb 2023). Thanks for posting these videos. @@InternetDude Oh, the car is VERY out of warranty. :) I'm at 252,310 km right now (I permanently switched to metric last year). The battery pack though is younger than the car. The previous owner replaced the battery pack under warranty in late 2019 (the year before I purchased the car). The battery pack still has about 90% of its estimated range, and with Superchargers being so plentiful now, I'm not worried too much about range (except when I visit towns in counties where there are no superchargers or reliable J1772 stations - Putnam & Bradford) I just make sure I'm charged up to 95% before I leave for my trip. I feel your pain though. Watching your videos helped prepare me for what was ahead. The Drive Unit replacement was the shocker. The coolant seals failed as I was pulling into work one day and my car wouldn't shift out of park once I tried to leave. I had it towed to the Jacksonville, FL Service Center (90 miles away, AAA+ towed for free) and they kept the car for 3 weeks (since they only have 1 lift at that service center). Fortunately, the bill was only $5,800 ($4,800 for a remanufactured large drive unit + $1000 for labor). My credit union was very helpful in funding my repair, since I hadn't budgeted for anything that expensive that would cripple the car. From the time I got the car (May 2021) to when the DU failed (December 2021), the DU made a 'clunk' noise every time I accelerated (forward or backwards). This was probably a sign that things were going bad. Now, the DU is silent and accelerates VERY smoothly. It has a 4 year (I'm one year in) and 50,000 mile (I'm around 10,000 miles in) warranty. So, if I have to replace the battery pack every 8 years ($9,500) and the DU every 4 years ($5,800), that's pretty much the equivalent of buying a new car every 5-6 years. I'm building my emergency fund now. :D All in all, I consider myself blessed that I purchased a Model S that was well taken care of and apparently it was a good manufacturing day at Fremont because this car is surprisingly free of 'rattles' and 'shimmies' compared to your original Model S. Even from when it first came out, I've always liked the design of the Model S. So for $25,000 (my original purchase price at 121,000 miles) and waiting 8 years to buy one, it hasn't been that bad of an experience.

That was the best ownership review that I have come across. Even today, both the S and X are not recommended by Consumer Reports due to the reliability problems. The X's problems are well beyond the useless "falcon" doors. The only model recommended is the 3 (as of today). However, it is also worth mentioning that neither the 3 nor the Y have heated steering wheels yet in North America. In my case, due to a condition in my right hand, I need a heated steering wheel. Back to the Y, it is not recommended either. It has improved as production has progressed, but I would stay away from it. They've had problems with the heater that refuses to work, panel alignment, color matching issues (especially the white ones), interior rattles, even contaminated paint finish. That cabin heater problem is a safety issue in extremely cold climate areas like yours. In the meantime, I'll just continue just owning Tesla shares. My tesla x is totally failed. The battery stopped all of sudden right after I have charged completely 200miles. The screen showed 0mile and it turned off by itself. I called to tesla customer service, they said it's not common problem they see, but when a towing guy came and he said they see this kind of problem all the time on tesla and they towing tesla on this issue at least 3 times a day. They never going to buy tesla they said. It's nothing to do with warranty issue. It's manufactur defects. You paid $120000 for a car and after 2 years drove, it broke and the car company denied it's not their fault!? That's B.S. please post your story so that people know that they don't lose money on junks.

I've had hondas with plenty of door handle problems. For being a brand new car company,..this isn't that bad. Like you said, it never left you stranded and from the looks of it...you drive it in pretty harsh conditions (that's some hard mud paint that will be hard to take off!). I have a Mercedes E350 now and it drives like a dream...but I also baby the heck out of it!

Well, you really had something to be bothered about. But my experience with my P85D bought in California on December of 2014 have been totally different. I never had those problems but let me tell you, I drive my car only in Comfy mode. I do not speed around for nothing, and in Highways, I go about 5 miles below the speed limit. What I can tell you is that at about 37k miles, I got a message about the battery telling me I had issues with it, and to take it to a service center, so I did that, and during my time there it was found that the battery pack had dropped below 85% capacity in less than 4 years (it was late October of 2016), so the battery pack was exchanged under warranty. Because it was a major exchange, they tested the whole system with the new battery and they also found that the 12 volt battery also needed to be replaced together with the cooling fluid, so got a new one with they said, a new better system, but I had never had a problem with either of the two batteries before. Also, it was found something with one of the motors, it was found it was an older version prone to a bearing dis-function, so it was also changed. I was at the time kind of surprised at how many things they were finding when I never got a problem about that. Well, the findings did not finish there. During that testing, two of the door handles also failed, so the technician kindly replaced the FOUR OF THEM!!!!!. That was supposed to be a total of almost three days I was going to be without my car, so I was given a loaner. After not three days but a week, I got my car back and was given a toilet paper list of all the things that were done to the car. At that moment I thought that my car was actually ready to explode with new problems, but whatever they were, they found and fixed. I was totally surprised because I had given that car total and complete care!!!! But I am happy to say that all the identified issues that were found at the time of that visit were fully resolved, and now my car is 7 years old with more than 200k miles on it and never got any other problem since then!!!! And I am taking it for the yearly checkout and the car is working as new or better!!!!! And in my august of 2019 visit was told that I had the old m-1 computer system and that it was going to be substituted by the new M-2 version. But in those visits many things were done to my car all of them under warranty, and I don't remember to have those expenses he had with all my visits combined- maybe 400.00 USD total so far!!!! I am really sorry for this gentleman, but I guess every owner of early Tesla cars has its own experience. Mine have always been top notch, and now my daughter and her husband are also proud owners of a Model 3 and a Model Y, and do not have any problems on them, and all of us are laughing at the gas expenses and regular gas car maintenance that we don't have or need!!!!! Now, my next on the list is the Cybertruck- we are waiting for the three motor version, but now Tesla had changed a lot of stuff on the web site for that truck, and the expected delivery if any, is any moment in 2024!!!! That will be a different story, I will be driving a better and more comfortable vehicle than my old trusted P85D!!!!

I replaced this car with a Lexus and I should have done it sooner. Lesson learned, do not buy garbage Teslas. I'd say having the battery and drive unit replaced within 2 years is absolutely disgusting. That's like replacing the engine and transmission on a gas car after 2 years, almost unimaginable. Yes Tesla service used to be better back in the day, service is not as good today (the people are nice though). I had another Tesla with problems (even more) so I would never ever recommend anyone buy a Model S. Buy a 3 and treat it like a rental car, beat on it and don't keep it past the warranty period. The worst thing you can do is own an older Tesla out of warranty.

Our two year old Model S has worked perfectly until now, where we have an appointment to fix slow charging speeds, a yellow line around the screen and noisy wipers. Here in Norway, from what I understand and have heard, newer Models are very reliable and, because we plan to have the car for three more years,I really hope that this will continue to be the case.

WOW, bad luck. I have a blue 2015 P85. I have only had one problem. The driver door window needed a new regulator. My car has been bulletproof for 75000 miles. I live in Phoenix and supercharge several times a month. I still get 250 miles on a charge. I have never paid anything to Tesla. There is no charge to have a tech come to my home or business in Phoenix. We have two service centers. I did take it in twice for a courtesy check up and every thing was good both times. No problems and no pressure to do extra service. I love the autonomous driving feature. Year's ago I had a Lamborghini Countach 5000S that was a nightmare so I feel your pain. Sounds like you got a lemon.

I've had my 2008 Acura TSX for 13 years now and never had any issues; I just followed basic maintenance, and it's still running strong (250+K). I thought about getting a new car, but why have monthly payments? Also, not many people know that TSX's are made in Japan, so it's pretty much a hidden gem. Japanese cars are king and will always be king when it comes to reliability. Just bummed out that Tesla's reliability is a downer. I really want the US to improve its products and make more products in the US, but stuff like this makes people want to go somewhere else.

Toyota has announced two full EVs and I will be on board (pun intended). Teslas are cool yes but they don't have build quality, dependability and customer service sorted. I've owned two Teslas but wouldn't buy again. I think Toyota with full EVs will be some real competition for Tesla because of those reasons. The only things I see unique with Tesla in a few years is the supercharger network and autopilot. I've used Autopilot for tens of thousands of miles and it's over-rated marketing hype to date. I haven't personally tried GM's SuperCruise but it looks better in terms of not having to touch the wheel every 20-40 seconds.

I think the only reason why the Tesla company is still here because they changed the automobile industry forever. Toyota Japan had no intention of mass-producing all-electric vehicles for the next few decades (phototypes often get removed with no tangible consumer product). Then because of Tesla, Toyota is now forced to push all-electric technology sooner than later in all of their markets. EDIT: I just saw you also have switched to Lexus. I have Lexus RX350 and I brought it to brand new in 2017 and I am still in love with it. :)

I don't think Tesla will ever be as easy to fix as a Toyota or Lexus. My front high voltage junction box failed, how would you DIY fix that? 400 volts DC can kill you. Very risky without taking precautions. And, you need to load a software update after changing the part. Very anti-DIY setup.

The problem with Tesla is filling their cars with unnecessary fancy electronic gizmo crap that you don't need. The more computers and gizmos, the more that can go wrong. Tesla needs to strip away all the unnecessary and make simpler cars. Ditch the fancy touch screens. They also need to work on their quality control which is horrendous. Dr. W. Edward's Deming is probably rolling in his grave!

Again as yours the car has never let me down miles / time to fix 5,000 Drivers door handle 1 day 10,000 Moisture in rear aplique (reverse light fogging) 1 day 35,000 Rear drive unit bearings fail (known problem) 2 days 75,000 Battery overheat detected by factory (coolent leak) 2 days 78,000 Drivers door handle 1 day 80,000 Rear discs corroded and pads 2 days 85,000 Front air struts (questionable these were needed....why?) 90,000 Rear drive shafts (clicking but its the nuts and washers) Warrenty ends 100,000 Had all 4 door handles replaced with V2.5 (these dont fail) £1,400 1 day 110,000 TPS ECU failed tesla fitted newest system £600 10 days + free loaner 135,000 PTC heater fail £600 1day I also fitted front drop links, new headlight bulbs (9 year old bulbs not good) both front hubs. Both front rotors and pads (corroded lack of use) In my opinion Tesla are caught out by rain (water) and road salt (not present in California) wipers are crap but on the flip side air con incredible and pilleress doors cool so you cant have it all! Still love my Peal white, cream interior, black 19" wheels, sunroof delete, carbon spolier, red calipers RWD P85 had a Plaid on order cancelled as £110,000+ too much for LHD and lets see what my roadster is going to be............ZZZZZZZ still waiting lol.

The build-quality reminds me very much, and I’m not saying that as a joke, of a car I had in ‘95. It was also a red one with beige “leather” interior. A 1990 Alfa Romeo 75 V6 QV. It had....more problems than I thought there were parts in the car. But, it never really left me stranded, you could always “solve” the problem just enough to limp home. But especially the interior-finish, the general level of quality (or the lack there off), and the odd noises coming from doors, centre console, dashboard, the sunroof, and of course the inevitable cracks, rattles, vibrations and whines coming from axles, steering house, belts and other moving parts that seemed fitted by a blind man. It’s mind boggling that stuff like that is still possible in this day and age. No, no way I’m ever going to buy a Tesla. Unless they really straighten up...which seems unrealistic to me.

The 3 is a bit better built but it’s definitely going to be a solid 3+ years before Tesla has decent build quality, if ever. They are great with the tech stuff (electronics, motors) it seems but they are not the best auto maker.

InternetDude I could probably live with the issues if Tesla were a bit dedicated to delivering decent warranty service and if that free supercharging service was available anywhere in even a 100 mile radius of your house. But the way you got lifted with that free unavailable supercharger that only came in the end, more or less, and then the stuff won’t charge, they mis-diagnose, keep shoving it down the road, charge you in the end for a problem they blatantly ignored....INFURIATING. You can’t trust people like that...

I remember being such a fanboy of Musk and Tesla. That being said, after learning about what kind of person Musk is, how often he exaggerates and lies to the public about all kinds of crap, his union busting efforts, abysmal working conditions in Tesla factories, shoddy quality of their vehicles and beyond middle class pricing, anti-consumer and anti-right to repair practices, the list goes on and on, I've changed my mind on ever owning a Tesla. Nope. This further steers me away from Tesla. Fit and Finish issues. Service issues. Parts issues. Personal time spent addressing repairs. There is a logic disconnect here. In general, more expensive "luxury" vehicles require more fussing in general. I guess call us foolish -those of us who can afford to gamble with a luxury car that ends up taking even more of our time and money. This model S taking this much fussing? No thanks. And the Teal model versus the dealer model? I dislike both but I have to go with the dealer model in vehicle purchases. I prefer decentralization. Hell, even Jaguar will pick up my car for servicing, provide me with a loaner, and return my vehicle to me. And they have a 5 year parts and labor bumper-to-bumper. That means EVERYTHING except normal maintenance and tires. Thanks for the great reporting.

In my experience, old line luxury makers coddle owners. So giving you a rental car if you bring the car in -- even for just an oil change. Even if you buy the car USED, but under warranty. Tesla seems like the opposite, as though you're supposed to worship Musk for having quality of a POS. Luckily for customers, there will be PLENTY of alternatives as the early 2020's progress.

So an ICE vehicle like Lexus that has 10,000 MORE moving parts than a Tesla has a MUCH lower incidence of repair than a model S. Very sad in a way. I am taking a long hard look at Lucid as a viable alternative.

Would be nice if Tesla could be as reliable as the Toyota/Lexus and Honda lines. Basically $50 oil changes every 5-10K miles and that’s it. And with sub $2 gas in much of the country now makes driving them pretty cheap. I recently bought a 2015 MS 85D with all the options for under 50k with 16k miles. The depreciation is real with Tesla. I Like the looks of the S much better then the 3 not to mention free supercharging and nearly twice the cargo space. Definitely some quality control issues with Tesla and I think you will see the same issues with the 3 as that model matures. Hopefully Tesla can improve its quality over the coming years cause they are fun to drive but hate the thought of needing to sell it before 50k miles because of the many issues to follow. Thanks for a rare honest review about your experience with Tesla.

Elon likes to talk about a million mile drivetrain but I don’t believe they will pull that off for quite a few more years and models. Admittedly many things have improved over the last 5 years but some things have gotten worse. Personally I’d rather have an EV Lexus because it’s so easy for me to get service here plus we have a few decades of known reliability. I’d settle for a PHEV Lexus with decent EV range at this point.

Don't feel bad. My 2021 Model Y already have too many defects. Windshield water tubing came off. Wind noise on passenger side and also on the back side. Have a car for less than two months and 3 services so far. Next service is on 2/18 and this will be for wind noise related. I found out the whole trunk was misalignment big time.

Oh the reports of quality issues haven't slowed down much in the last year. Lots of people are having issues with a lack of cabin heat near me. They are going to lose customers in the long run if they keep this up, I know they lost me. It's a shame you've had 3 service visits on a brand new car! I had a newer Tesla and had 13 service visits in 2.5 years until I finally reached my breaking point and took a massive $$ hit and dumped it. I have a feeling you will continue to have issues...

12V battery issues are still relatively common with the 3, and lots of people have zero cabin heat right now with the Y where I live. Tesla has improved for sure, nowhere near like a Toyota for longevity and build quality though.

They'll continue to learn and mature as an automaker and should really cherish customers such as yourself for being eagle eyed and forthright about issues big & small. As a 10 year Prius owner who plans to buy a Cybertruck a year or so after they arrive, I do worry a bit about reliability vs Toyota. I'll certainly avoid the first few production waves.

Hello reliability my old friend ;-) I hope you have easier access to Tesla service and I hope they can improve on it overall by the time you buy a Cybertruck. By the time that comes out I would think they will have learned a ton more lessons on things. So maybe it will be Cybertruck > Y > 3 > S > X ....?

you bought a car in the early stages that was by a company that is a software\hardware company first and a car second. I feel your pain, but your first statement answered most questions for me when you said basically over the last 5 years the car has not failed you. The first 15 issues are earlier adaptor issues. Like when the world switched from a flip phones to a data phones with touch screens. You tell me how many issues people had with those. Most people dealt with those issues, until we got to where we are today. It takes time to get things right. I am still not understanding why you still have it after all these years with all these problems. It's time to sell and move on to a ICE car again.

Yeah I finally had enough and traded it for a Lexus gas car kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ2kkp-raZiqrqs - I only wish I had done it sooner. Tesla slowed down the supercharging speed on this car badly using a software update (well-known issue with 85 kWh batteries). I didn't mention it but that was the straw that broke the camel's back so-to-speak. Not to mention the MCUs on these old cars were failing left and right and I knew that repair was going to be $3,000 if I kept the car. I just got done with the stupid repairs and Tesla deliberately slowing down my charging pushed me over the edge. I don't trust them to not do that to other people in the future. They were finally forced by the government to fix the MCUs just last month I think it was? There are a lot of things the company does that tells you they are not the eco-green feel good company that they portray themselves to be. I could go on but that's enough rant for now LOL.

This is actually a great summary of all the issues you've faced, and undoubtedly your location being some ways out has played a part in making the entire experience that much more hassle when things have gone wrong. I'm now two years into ownership of my Tesla Model 3 Performance, and suffered a number of faults in the first year that led to it having to be repeatedly taken in. Then it's been a blissful year without any hassle since then - not a single issue, the car seems stable but then I also am living in south Florida so also don't have the cold to stress the batteries and car in a different way during the winter. The Model 3 is also lower end and more basic with various things that prevent such issues as the door handle problem. Overall, I'm also delighted with my purchase and planning to keep the car for another couple of years. I similarly bought it for the tech then and went for standard Autopilot. Here we are two years later and no regrets as it's little more than a feature incomplete expensive beta that will require driver supervision for the entire life of my car - in other words, it's a gimmick at this stage and while the potential long term is huge, the smart choice is to enjoy driving this wonderful car and I'll consider the FSD package as and when I eventually consider buying a new one in the future.

I’ve had a 2012 Tesla Model S for 8 Years, bought it New, and never had an issue. I have had no issues whatsoever over 8 years, it’s an amazing car, and I have a 2016 model x and have never had an issue. It’s interesting how build quality vary’s with tesla, my buddy who has a Model Y says the quality is way better than my 16’ X and 12’ S So it would appear quality is getting better.

I forget the exact numbers off-hand. I mention some of the costs in the video. The glove box broke and it is $1500 to replace but I DIY fixed it for $10. The steering shaft was about $500 I think. And I think the battery heater was supposed to be $1100 but I paid $800-ish??

My 1999 BMW 328 convertible is still running with no major problems and in 20 yrs, nothing compared to this and my wifes Honda CRV - 2012 - in 8 yrs of owners hip, only had to change tyres, brakes and new spark plugs. I think I will stick to German or Japanese - Lexus or Porsche for this price range

You could be right. I still see build quality issues today in cars coming off the assembly line. Misaligned panels, cabin heat not working, 12V batteries failing, doors not opening or closing right, hair in the paint job, etc. Tesla seems much more concerned about quantity over quality right now in the factory. At some point that will have to change I would think.

My buddy’s Tesla was awesome until it had 3 motors go out, the touch screen went out, the door handle came out and kept coming until it dropped to the floor, not to mention a buffer sound Tesla can’t figure out. Paint is horrible and doors don’t shut with the same solid sound and other cars at a quarter of the price, don’t bring down the window when going down the highway because there maybe an air gap sound when you roll them back up, but besides that…..

Ha ha I'm really not surprised. I think the terrible quality is going to catch up to them. Elon is the master hype guy but in the long run if they don't improve they are going to lose any and all repeat customers. Heck I'd have less issues had I bought a Jeep or Dodge LOL.
